Metallica's forthcoming new album, 'Death Magnetic', has leaked online after allegedly being sold before its September 12 release date in a French record shop.

According to Blabbermouth, fans on the continent got hold of the new album and posted pictures of the artwork, which is available to see on the website.

Despite the leak, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich said he wasn't too concerned about losing sales. "Listen, we're ten days from release," he told US radio station Live 105.

"I mean, from here, we're golden," he added. "If this thing leaks all over the world today or tomorrow, happy days. Happy days. Trust me. Ten days out and it hasn't quote-unquote fallen off the truck yet? Everybody's happy. It's 2008 and it's part of how it is these days, so it's fine. We're happy."

Just listened to it. It actually isn't bad nothing like StAnger not as fast or trying to be 'Hardcore' seems a lot like load/reload.

Its on Bitorrent for those that want it or pm me an i will sort something out.

Maybe we should all go download this new album off Napster! Nah, Sharezza is the go nowdays. Screw paying for music.

The single they released off this album ain't bad considering most of the other "rock" music being released today.

Some nice attitudes regarding paying for music - How about you go to work and tell your Boss to hold your pay for a few weeks

Motherfuckers are stealing my oxygen - If you haven't noticed Record prices are much the same as they were 10+ Years ago - Fucking Mp3 downloading shitty format listening hobo's

Metallica have adopted a positive attitude to Music Thieves - You have to - But when people blatantly say screw paying for music - You should bend over and spend your time figuring out how you can flykick your own forehead

Ill buy an album when I want to support a band.
If i dont want to support the band, there is no fucking way im going to buy their album when I can download it for free.

Your completey right, the music and movie industry has been fucked over. But im not about to go and spend my hard earned to try and fix it when theres millions of others not.

Same as polution, fark i feel bad about it but i like most of us Im not trying my hardest to fix it.

From South Park:

DETECTIVE
This is the home of Lars Ulrich, the
drummer for Metallica. Look. There's
Lars now, sitting by his pool.

KYLE
What's the matter with him?

DETECTIVE
This month he was hoping to have a gold-plated
shark tank bar installed right next
to the pool, but thanks to people downloading
his music for free, he must now wait
a few months before he can afford it.

Well that's your opinion because you are involved in the music industry.

I refuse to pay 30 dollars for a CD that i don't even know i will like. if i like it i will pay the money to get a good quality copy but when i can download it for free and see if i like it first i will.

Most bands have samplers on Myspace and shit - How many CD's in your collection do you have where you like every single song? My point it at serial offenders - Kents be like - yeah check my CD collection i have 10 billion burnt CD's -

Also you can buy songs individually for less than a dollar on Itunes and shit - Surely thats not a stretch

My collection isnt that big :D

i dont touch apple so itunes is a no no for me.

i get your point it is allot easier nowadays to sample the music but old habbits die hard i just find it easier to leech the album if i like it i buy it.
anyways back on topic
i for one will buy this album when it comes out it shits all over St Anger.

I'm involved in the music industry and I have a similar, yet different view on the matter to Gozza.

The only bad thing about downloading music is the artists getting screwed. If an artist didn't write the songs on their album, with each sale of say, a $30 CD, the artist will make 30 cents for every CD sold. Songwriting is where the money is at. I can't remember exactly, but I think its around the 25% mark for the songwriter.

However, downloading music is awesome because its sticking it to the record companies. Record companies are exactly the same as banks. When people say you've got a 'record deal', all you really have is a bank loan. The artists have to pay the record company back the money that the company lends them. On top of that, the record company make something like 35-40% from each CD sale. Robbie Williams commented on the issue of downloading music a couple of years ago saying, "I don't care. Download my music. I'm rich. It's only gonna hurt the record company".

So, I think downloading music is great because its screwing the record companies who are screwing the artists. But unfortunantly, its also making it much much harder for the artists to get out of their debt.

My two cents.

With record deals in the commercial industry they pay for recording/marketing etc etc and the very general rule of thumb is that around the 3rd album the Band has hopefully made the invested money back -
and Braiden is right - Songwriters are the ones making the money - You write a hit and your set for life. Most things you hear on the radio and famous songs we all know have likely been written by some person nobody knows about

bands like metallica and others that are signed to a record company get paid by that company, regardless of sales. so no i couldnt care less downloading a metallica album.

if it was local aussie talent then sure id pay for it, because those bands receive and need money from that sale.

popular bands/actors etc get enough money from publicity related crap to care what my $20 does for them.

i wonder what a band would prefer... 10,000 people downloading the song and liking it, increasing their likelyhood of people attending a live gig etc.
or 500 people buying their CD.

i'd prefer 10,000 spreading the word about my band regardless of how many CDs they purchased.

Agreed.

They are multi millionairs.

I'd see them live. That'll cost me like $100 a ticket.
They make heaps of the merchandice etc.
If the album is of sililar style as 'Kill em all', 'ride the lightning', etc, then I will buy a copy.

well its lovely that you can self justify shit - i know what your saying but i guess its a thing of principles - record labels and all the bullshit aside - downloading thousands of songs from various artists "just to inspect" their music is gay - plus mp3's sound like ass anyway

Also going by some of your logic - i can justify myself pinching someones shit because they earn more than me - or may be millionaires -

Its not about that -

to put it simply yes.
if its a band that i'm looking forward to the release then i really like, then i'll buy it.
and have done.
saying that, theres not many bands that i REALLY like enough :P

Steady, there are royalties involved with Channel V, MTV, etc, etc, so the artist still makes money of those videos being played.

I heard that the leak is a trap by Metallica's lawyers and that they are logging all the ip's and details of all the people that download the album. They are going to use the information to prosecute as many people as they can.

It makes sense why they are so 'cool' with the leak. They stand to make heaps of cash from the ensuing lawsuits.

screw downloading it, id rather buy the cd when it comes out being Metallica and being my fave band, some people just like having the real thing, proper cover, booklet and inserts and stuff like that, I have listened to a couple of their songs which they officially realeased on their official site, sounds awesome so far, a nice mix of their old thrash stuff with more of a polished sound but lyrically similer to St. Anger

I just think if Lil Wayne is getting driven round in a stretch hummer with lots of sluts and then having pool parties at mass mansions, maybe he can afford to have a few people not buy his CD.
Not to mention the kunt can afford alot of lollipops. Those ain't 10c no more.

But for serious, it's basically a means test.
99.9% of the time, if they are on a mainstream music channel, they already got some decent cashish.
Chances are they also suck balls, so therefore their songs are a-ok to download.
It's not fair, and it's not entirely logical, but it helps me sleep at night ;)

I buy alot of CDs and vinyl BTW, so I'm not defending it because I don't like spending cash on music.
Any music I download is generally something mainstream that I don't want people knowing I sort of like LOL

Most of the 371 songs I have in my libary have already run their courses in relation to music sales (as they have been and gone) so the artists have already either made their millions or died from a OD. Infact the latest music I've been listening to while on the comp is your first track on myspace Gozza and maybe some recent Disturbed. Trying to find some of the music I have would be a complete pain in the arse due to how old it is, how rare it is and how far away I am from a decent music outlet. Out of the 371 songs about 5 or 6 are from the same album and all of them would be a headfvck trying to buy and not to mention expensive (plus I don't use Itunes or a Ipod so buying them for 99 cents each isn't a option) .

Buying CDs to determine music tastes really died in the arse in the late 90's with the advent of broadband and burnable CDs. Most people I know get their music tastes from watching video hits on weekends or listening to "mainstream" radio for songs they like (which obviously is going to be crowded with American artists and next-to-none local conent apart from pop-shit). The availablity of Mp3's helps up and coming artists by allowing people to sample their music and eventually buy their music/ support them in gigs etc. In fact if mp3's weren't readily weren't available for download I probably would be listening to the local radio station with Nickleback, Eminem, Rhanna, Bounce, (insert random whore/ popular emo bands here) on constant repeat.

So yeah, having Mp3s around influences people's music style and brings more people into contact with smaller groups and other stlyes of music that arn't played on commercial radio.

I see it this way

If I could walk into someones house, and make a copy of their 52 inch HD Plasma TV, I wouldn't have a problem with that either.
