After years of procrastination, I finally went for the written test to get my Ls! I want to learn in a manual. Do you think I would need to buy a manual car to practice in or can I just use my folks' automatic? Thanks for your help

How can you practise manual in an auto car?

Is common sense lost on kids these days?

Have 5 hours of lessons in a manual and you'll be fine. I had 2 hours worth on the day after driving only autos on my Ls and passed 100%. It's really not that hard

Just play heaps of Gran Toursimo and they will even give you a Cams licence.

I thought this topic was going to be about a obese person trying to get help....how disapointing.

Good luck with your L's mate. Get yourself something with a manual and go out to the country for a weekend with your folks and learn how to drive. Anyone can drive auto but you get a greater understanding of a vehicle if you drive manual.

Erm, I'm not following... so you've been driving for years unlicensed in your 2003 Avalon?

Sure, you can practice in an automatic with a manual licence. If you have zero experience with manuals though expect things to go NQR when it comes to the big driving test (which, surprise surprise, is in a manual car).

I suggest you find a driving school with a manual car and get some practise that way, or just as easy buy a car that's already manual and have an instructor or ya folks help ya.

depends on your current skill in a manual.
i drove a manual datsun in the paddock before i was 16.
then i got my L's drove nothing but auto.
1 week before my 18th bday i got lessons nearly every night so maby 10 hours tops in a manual
i passed with **** all points lost.

I never had to drive for my Ls

But yeah, 5 or so hours in a manual is all you'll need to get used to it
Taking off is the hardest part, the rest is simple
