Different/Unique/Weird Turbo Setups

I've come across a few odd looking turbo setups on the net so thought it would be interesting for people to post some up. Some of you probably remember that shitty old ZK? Fairlane thing that had the turbo right down near the boot. I don't have pics but I'm sure someone has them to post up. Anyway, here is one to get the ball rolling (S2000):

Theres some pretty wild remote mount turbo setups for mustangs, i'd have to give props to STS for making the most bitchin setup i've seen and i must admit i quite like the idea.

Holy crap. How could that be cheaper or better in any way than a blower setup, apart from maybe if you are trying to fool the police into thinking it is stock...ish...

Theres a BA Ghia V8 with a remote mount turbo on AFF. They're good for the drags where you can just stall it up for longer to overcome lag, plus you can fit a monster W2A intercooler in the boot/back seat.
Lag isn't as much of a problem with bigger motors as well.

They seem to think that they can overcome the lag completely by sizing the turbo correctly to suit the piping + engine characteristics but personally i'd have to actually see it to believe it.

From a packaging point of view i think its an awsome idea given the wide valley angle of mod motors and just the general enormity of the engine making it quite difficult to fit a turbo(s) any other way and to top it all off it keeps it all fairly standard looking.

I dunno if id choose it over a twin screw supercharger setup but damn its cool!

Ahh yes there's quite a few LSxs and DOHC Boss motors with turbo setups that have the turbo/s sitting near the front wheel arches and further under the body. Aaron that BA Ghia on AFF hauls arse - isn't it Paul's aka CVE Performance's car? I'll try find some pics.

Rob I was just thinking that! Surely that's not the final product, it'd be fucked if it was that close to the ground/wheel all the time.

Thats the one, I wasn't 100% sure if it was his.

The more I think about it, the more sense it makes as a budget option really. It will still make boost quicker than a centrifugal blower, especially in the higher gears. You don't need to make custom manifolds, the pipes from the turbo to the engine would cool the air charge to a degree as well. I don't know how the oil return would work though, and if the turbo would be affected by going through a puddle.

With those Mustangs, it seems kind of stupid to have such small turbos so far away, it looks like theres enough space each side of the trans to mount the turbos, which would save on a lot of pipework. Plus the air filters sucking pure tyre smoke during a burnout.

you generally run smaller housings on the remote setups as the exhaust isnt so hot by the time i gets to the back of the car.

Pauls car is quick, very responsive and quite impressive.
its in Performance Ford Magazine this month.

the water issues seem to be my biggest concern.

I know that the corvette setups use an oil scavenge pump mounted at the back of the car to pump oil back up into the rocker covers, one can only assume the mustang is reletively the same.

Yeah thered have to be some scavenge pumps involved.
If anyone posts that pic of the shitbox with the turbo out the bonnet, I fukken hope Dan bans you.

Not that strange or different, pretty much all the 10.5 Outlaw cars have turbos out the front, but still looks crazy :D

E46 M3 with twin GT3076's. Due to the slant motor, they run one high mount and one low mount:

I've seen that Caddy before. Looks gay. Two big singles might look pretty cool though.

Steady what are Outlaw cars? They look tough as with the turbo there! It's massive too.

I want a turbo M3 one day... Although they sound tits with a supercharger...

Here's a youtube to another (gay looking) Caddy:

And a Ford Fuckus that you probably wouldn't want to mess with:

I think Steady was talking about the other shitbox - the honda POS that is clearly a paddock basher of some sort.

Hrmm mid/ rear mount turbo ?? that'll never work !!
That is what I was told , so I did it !!
Image
As you can see in my dyno sheet the power comes on instantly.
You will also note it is making near 280 rwkw @ 3000 rpm
When I raced it at Calder the LS1 guys could not believe it !! they thought it MUST be laggy , heck it even had the stock stall converter !!

Paul, the BA's power is not too shabby at all! How quick is it down the strip?

I thought this one was pretty cool:

I only took it to calder once.
It ran 11.77 @ 116 mph, however it had fuel surge at 1000 ft :(

Still haven't got around to taking it out again.
