All,

Anyone got any good places in Vic (preferably South East suburbs or can deliver) for AU engines? Given no-one can sort out my odd noise dramas, I am thinking of dropping an AU engine into the EF. Obviously have to sort out the sump mod too.

Will prob give a few a call to get some prices.

Also, am considering keeping my EF head (as its ported), and the 1521a i have suits EA-EL rockers. thoughts?

Forgot to post yesterday, I watched the vid and your engine rattle sounds timing gear related. I would double check all of the timing related shit, guides, tensioners etc etc. Dunno if there is a spec for timing chain run out but try and rule that out.

If you do end up swapping it, should be no probs keeping the EF head and valve gear if you want to.

My opinion is that the standard AU head/valve gear is probably better as Ford generally don't make things worse. I swapped an AU head onto my brothers EF and it seemed punchier than it was (probably had a bit more torque).

Interesting you think its still timing gear related. It's definately not just a normal chain rattle, but fucked if i know what else it is.

I have had the sump & timing cover off 4 times now (new gaskets, drop engine oil, sump, coolant, radiator, and trans fluid fucking everywhere each time). the guides are perfect, the tensioner is perfect. The only thing I didnt try and do is remove & check the aux shaft or replace any of the sprockets. The shaft spun freely and didnt seem seized/damaged.

I cant be fucked doing ANOTHER in-car sump drop to put it all back together and find it still rattles, ive wasted 4 weekends doing that already. The bottom end is nothing nice, just a 270K ford special. Ill happily pay someone to fix it.

I recomment the AU bottom end with your head. You will feel or NOT feel the difference... The au bottom end is such a nice revver compared to the older motors, u cant feel them at 6000... Get a low K' job and you'l be sweet.

My mate had my AU head and put it on his EB.... and it made the car slower.

If you want a place that will have an AU motor and will deliver it, try giving the guys at ALLFORD a call.

try grant walker in bayswater, a few mates have got engines off them, they had them on special for $350 for ages..

$350 is pretty good! im getting my low k'm motor off a mate 4 500 got less that 80,000 on the clock!

I actually think grant wanker has a walk in special type thing... In other words if you call them up they have no idea what ur talking about and say 700 or somethign change over.

Walk in and there will be a sign and a AU motor for 298. No change over.

Pretty sure "95NFGHIA" got one for that price...

lol theres a place up here in brizzy called aussie auto recyclers (self serve wreckers), if you pull any e series motor out yourself, its yours for 79, including AU motors, not ba tho, but they ba ones they still sell very cheap. they also have these "all you can carry for $50", quite funny you see people walking outer there with diffs accross there backs with gearboxs tied to them
