Ok, ive done search after search on how to get the coldest air into my engine.

Ive got my 3A racing filter in my airbox with an extra 3" hole. Im in the process of getting the 3" mandrel bent pipe, and then ill be working on removing the aixbox all together and making a sheild to reject all the heat. ive got a few questions though...

1) I found this thread on the fordmods website- http://www.fordmods.com/forums/fiendishly-simple-air-pressures-over-an-ef-fairmont-hood-t72008.html- but im struggling to take it all in and come to a final conclusion! What does one make of that?

3) EF XR6 bonnet vents- How can i capitalize on the fact that theres 2 big f. off holes in my bonnet? the one on the right is located right above the airbox. If i cut a big hole in the TOP of the airbox, and i gunna get more COOLER in there?

....ok,ok, all seriousness (even though i wasnt joking) if u have a pod keep it boxed so its protected from the heat of the engine bay and its still easy to get cold air to flow into it. if u dont have ABS try this:



drill a sizeable hole in the bottom of your airbox (works alot better if you dont have foglights or the caps where foglights should be.

the best i've seen is a shaker setup (MADEL if i remember correctly) or trick_XD's old taxi yellow EL (carbied v8 style filter out the bonnet) cant get much colder than that!

be warned you fuel consumption will go up with colder/more air

put a scope like NUT347 and plum that to your airbox

get some pvc pipping and run it from the front bar to underneath your airbox and use like a rectangle gutter fitting to be the air catcher



flexiable pvc pipping just make sure you have a decent down slope to stop water traveling up i've heard of a car with a pipe down to low and the idiot drive it in the floods and he sucked a shit load of water into the motor

most people i know make a alloy box with a pod fitted inside. with pvc pipping to the frontbar to suck in cold air. seems to work alright

or go to a exhaust place and get a custom 3in pipe from the front of the car to the box.

i've seen people run a pipe to where the driving light goes and remove the light and have a 3in pipe sitting there sucking in air

go to bunnings and sus out there pipe range and what you can manage to fit in and around you have a clear run from the front bumper to under the airbox.

make a mdf box and cover it with heat shields so it doesnt look so wood

custom box. some sort of pipping from front bar to the new box. mount ya pod filter 3in pipping from pod to air intake. should see more forced cold air getting into the car

This is what i was thinking....the only problem is id have to take it down from like 2" wide piping to almost 1/2" to make it behind the headlight!

so other than getting pipes and holes into the airbox, are those gaskets worth it?

and EF bonnet scoops, are they designed to suck air into the engine or out?

Just do what I did, bit of flexi pipe, take the bonnet vent out, poke flexi pipe out, attach pod, cable tie it. Attracts police thou.

But make up something to get the air in behind the headlight, you get alot more air flow in through xr headlights

on the ed's you can see from the front bar/under the air box clear mount something near the mouth as i call it (the big whole in the bumper bar)

have it sitting in the corner paint the pvc black it'll be slightly noticeable but if ya car is low enough it wont be

get some flexi pvc i got plently here you can borrow road works on the highway left like 10 x 10m ones laying here

your got 2 colors orange and white

i dont believe a gasket could do so much of a different. IMO but the whole engine day sits around 90 degrees so i dont see how a gasket would remove that heat? unless you raise ya bonnet like BI6TIM and get that heat out of the engine bay.

it may help it alittle bit but i dont think a great deal.. nothing that i decent cold air intake box setup couldn't match..

fit a intercooler... i seen this dude do it on a n/a 6. (before you ask... yes it was a typical vl!!!!!!) it gave it cold air

Run dry ice in your airbox, guaranteed to be cold

Iteally you want the piping to be larger than the onlet track, in saying that if the opening is bigger and has heaps of cold atmostpheric air then smaller run to the box will not be an issue.

Fitting an intercooler win not work on an N/A car period. The air track will be to long, you will loose a lot of response and the power gain will be minimal to nil.

yer i wouldnt fit a intercooler without some sort of forced power but thought i would just throw it in there

Replace the airbox with a small waeco fridge.

lawl at donno.. the air needs to be cold but also forced in.. so with ya fridge idea how could you force it in?

Except dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide - which doesn't burn...so as it evaporates your engine will not actually run...

mate of mine has an alloy intercooler... well its not actually an intercooler it connects to the intake piping and holds a panel filter so u can have it as a front mount....
he said it didnt really make much of a difference...

Stevo has the 'Sequential' scoop on the LHS of the EL. Not sure if you can still get them, but it draws air into the airbox. Seeing as you have the XR bonnet, it would fit straight on. That said, you could probably try PVC flexitube through the top of the box poking out just under your EF vent to get some more air in that way.
