rank, this thing sounds horrible man.

Sounds like someone took the motor out of a trawler!

a 305* duration cam will do that to the idle note though.

LOL

its just got a big surecam turbo grind in it, with 300deg+ and single 3.5" exhaust. i think it may have been un tuned at this stage, but no missing leadsLOL

Yep it was untuned. And yes 300+ deg cams will make the idle sound unlike anything you've heard before. If you don't like it - who cares. The car is quick and sounds nice in real life.

It was turbo'd when that film was taken. It has been turbo for longer than this site has existed hahaha. Infact besides the AVO/AIT semi factory jobbies it was one of the very first aftermarket turbo falcons completed. Back when I was buying parts people looked at me like I was on drugs when I told them I was turboing an E-series - no one had ever heard of one being done and everyone told me I was wasting my money. Just under 400rwhp doesn't lie tho - it was a good choice.

Well there have been turbod e series alot longer then this website for sure .

It doesn't sound all that different now its tuned, it just idles a little higher and slightly smoother - if you guys have never heard a 300+ deg cam in a 4L then I can certainly understand why you think it sounds terrible. So many experts here with big hp - yet none can recognize a massive cam in a 4L.....The guys on here who know the car like ED40 Cyanide Kizzer Fritzz etc have all seen the car IRL and know what its like and whats in it - because I talk to them and have tried to help them along the way if they needed it with their setups. Everyone here just seems to want to bag people out - then you get told its actually a fast car and everyone backpedals. Reminds me why I don't post here.

Because others I know are on here, and I have a boosted e-series. Plenty of people to give answers on here, so I don't have to post - and its not mandatory. Normally I'm quite happy to post on a forum, however here I'm not as comfortable - I don't think my expertise would be appreciated (or thats how it feels anyway). I was one of the pioneers - but I've not continued to spend and spend - so not much in the way of updates from me either. Others continue to post updates and show what they are doing - perhaps when I get around to doing the bottom end build on this car I'll post some more.

I think your expertise would be welcomed and don't quite get why you wouldn't want to post! Noone cares if you spend a little or a lot or how often you change your setup.

I wouldnt crack the shits just because a couple of 15 year olds think your car idles funny either, **** 'em. It sounds tough as.

Your WB02 reads a little lean in that vid!!

I'm with galapogos01, I think the more people who know what they are talking about the better ;)

I think the rule for this site is something like... unless you know what you are talking about, then don't post...
If you do know what you are talking about, then your posts are welcomed

You should put up a build thread or something, people like you (who know all about this stuff) teach people like me (who don't know too much about this stuff, but want to learn more)

Either your right foot is glued to the floor - or something is broken :P No way it should be using that much fuel NA.

Mate i didnt back pedal at all and mine has a massive cam and didnt sound the same way. . Thus why i said it didnt sound right. Mind you i didnt realise also that it was turbo.
I saw your other clip and i reckon it sounds a a bit different from that first one but hey thats just me .
Look im all for people chatting on here about things but mate you really need to understand that alot of people will make comments . Some of us may not be at all mechanically minded. Ill definatly put my hand up for that one.

This cam is over 550thou lift and over 300deg. No one makes an off the shelf that big, in fact the ONLY place that was going to do one that big was surecam. Everyone else I talked to wouldn't go that big. Don't know the specifics of your car but considering you are making around the 210rwhp mark I don't think your cam is all that big. My housemates car made just over 220rwhp with a DEV5 which really isn't all that big a cam. Massive means its NOT going to idle at all without aftermarket management and a raised idle rpm. My vacuum at idle is about 4-6"Hg. So yep I'm sure your cam didn't sound like my mine - coz your cam is WAY smaller and your exhaust I gather is not 3.5".

Yes it does sound slightly different (as i said) - but not much, its just the tuning has helped to smooth it out slightly. Cars always sound very different inside to outside as well - so that's probably a lot of the difference to the untuned idle vid.

Its ok to make comments - its the internet and that's fine - but then by the same token it should be my right to comment on the comments. I'm not a fan of comments made with little to no understanding. If I don't know much about something then I don't say anything, I watch, listen and learn instead. Not enough of that these days, too many people who are quick to judge with no knowledge.

Thats all i said mate . Please understand i did not comment on your car saying its shit or it is crap.
i purely said that id didnt sound good.
The second one to me sound a hell alot differnt but thats just me .
As for the commenting about your car we made was all due just the video.
No information bout the car was put up so i could know why it sounded that way.

PLease realise that although i dont know alot about mechanics i can read and understand things that way.
And in saying that i havent seen build thread or anythign about this car.

I just find it funny why you have got so upset about a comment on the sound .

I'm actually not upset at all - just pointing out your opinion is not well informed. You do realise that youtube has a comments section.....and information IS posted in that area by me after some people asked questions. So its not that much of a stretch to expect people to know SOMETHING about the car before saying it sounds like shit. But that's the internet, misinformed comments all round.

Two separate comments I made were:

"Head is ported, compression is lowered to around 8.5:1 to suit turbo. Engine management is EMS8860, injectors are 72lb/h siemens. Bosch 044 fuel pump, GT35/40R turbo."

"Its a custom grind from surecam. IIRC its 305deg advertised duration and 0.550" lift"

Neither of those is actually completely correct. I've since worked out the compression to be 8.1:1 and the cam has 327deg adv duration, around 260deg @ 0.050" and peak lift of 0.554" at the valve. When I quoted the figures I was just trying to remember what was on the sheet as I didn't have it handy.

There is no build thread on here - like I said I'm a member but don't really post here for various reasons.

haha ask Mick... He tuned the bloody thing  only has tickford head/fuel reg/diff ratio, 1636 cam and the EMS in it haha. afaik nothing is broken anymore. everything that has let go has been replaced and/or upgraded. actually the only thing that hasn't been touched is the rotating assembly, pistons/rods/crank. that'll have to come with the next build methinks.

although yes, my right boot is usually pretty close to the floor in that - it has to be to make it go anywhere the fat pig bitch piece of crap. Ask Rob whenever I have to pick him up to go anywhere; which is a lot these days. I'm glad there won't be much difference when the huffer is on though, in fact it might even get better!

Seriously though, that idle sounds fully shit man. Take the trawler engine out and put the 4L back in yeah?

Well i reckon that sound's great, love the sound of big cams. that's why my poxy little wade is getting replace'd with a bigger one. and the person that think's it sound's like a trawler should go buy a honda civic with a cannon on it.
