overdose in IRC channel.

I know this is about 4 years old now, but I'm sure the majority of people on here haven't seen this (unless I posted it on the old forum, don't think I did).

Basically this guy Brandon Carl Vedas took a massive concoction of drugs whilst chatting in an IRC channel, he broadcast it over his webcam. Onlookers were pretty much cheering him on to take more and more, even after he had allready taken a lethal amount.

I'll let you read into it more if you are interested. There are logs from the IRC channel on his dedication site. I often wonder what action i might have taken if i were an onlooker in that situation, and it saddens me to think that I probably would have been once of the people to egg him on to take more, and had a good laugh about it. Then the next day he's dead it's not so funny anymore. :(

Brandon Vedas died online as a crowd of virtual onlookers egged him to "eat more!" A chilling record of the Jan. 12 chat reads like an Internet version of the notorious 1964 Kew Gardens, Queens, stabbing of Kitty Genovese as her neighbors watched from their windows.

Yeah it was a bit eerie reading it eh Max?

It was a crazy thing to do but I guess when someone is toasted from being a drug addict they don't know what they're doing.

The problem is no one really knew him so didn't know his address. If you read one of them tried calling the poison hotline and 911 but they didn't have enough info on him/his location.

Yeah that's it Luke, the first dose of Meth would have had him feeling invincible. From what I read no one ever actually rang the poison hotline, and they would have been able too trace his details from the cell number etc, plus the address on his domain was correct and he described the cars in the driveway.

It is a bit creepy. It's like if I was to do the same thing on this forum. Half the people wouldn't know if I was taking the piss or not, untill there was a RIP Damo thread. That's the reality of life.

I just took about 20 vals after drinking 6 beers and 4-5 bourbons (pre mix), I don't think i'm going to die, pretty tired though. I honestly think Brandon was in complete control (with his drug altered mind set) of what he was doing. You don't take that amount of drugs and expect to wake up the next day with a hangover.

I work in IT security for a telephone company, every now and then the cops ring us up and get us to look up subscriber details for an IP address due to emergency medical/suicide situations.

It's hard to know when someone is serious in a situation like that because they are so many attention seeking dickheads on the internet, but if you are in doubt ring the cops- they have the power to find these people.

Reminds me of this article I was reading in the paper a few months ago, some middle aged guy was depressed and wanted to commit suicide in some chat room, everyone in the chat room thought he was joking and in the end he chucked his web cam on and hung him self in front of everyone.

How guilty would you feel if you were in that chatroom - especially the couple who were winding him up further calling him a pussy!

Gilly I read about that too (after reading this overdose story). It was a father in the UK on some chatroom. Everyone in there saw him get on a chair, set up a noose around his neck and jump.

There was also this other article about a 20 year-old who was chatting to his mates online. He was waiting to see some meteor shower through his (sister's) telescope but his street was too bright because of a street light. Anyway he said to his mates he was going to turn it off himself... Logged off chat, went into the street with some pliers and cut the power to the street light. He ended up electrocuting himself instead.

Yep. Ring the cops.

Then they will have a real reason to be Emo when the cops are pressing charges for wasting their time.
