what do you reckon with removing mufflers ???

Postby rab » January 20th, 2009, 7:12 pm

the old folk who had my falcon before me had a full cat back 2 1/2" zost fitted but it has 2 centre silencers(mufflers) and one bigger under rear at tail pipe...
now, its too quiet in my opinion and i want to release some sound...not a deafening racket but a nice growl....so, who or where should i take it to get modified and are there any issues with cops etc ?
i dont want it to sound like a hoons banger ! anyone near redcliffe area that can be trusted with a nice car (and can do a nice /neat job) would be appreciated...oh and a rough guess to price ?

It's not turbo is it?

I have zero mufflers in my car, 3" from turbo to tip, one 3" cat (not gutted). The turbo muffles a lot of the bad sound then the good condition cat does the rest so I can get away with it.

With an NA car 2 1/2" system only needs one muffler before the diff. That usually sounds good. In your case it's probably best to just get a new off the shelf 2 1/2" cat back system, it will come with one muffler. Redback brand comes to mind, that sort of system costs a bit over $300 from memory.

Iv got a 2 1/2" cat back cystem,
Its got one muffler and a hot dog (just to take out the drone)
It sounds good, little on the loud side, but thats what i was after.
If you take out the "big one under the rear" it'll probably sound nice when you give it some but also cruise around quietly.
Just go to an exhaust shop (e.g. exhaust bros) I got a quote to just take out a muffle and weld a straight bit of pipe when my original muffler was rusty, they quoted about $60.
Hope this helped.
