Kaaz vs LSD

I have the option in the next week or so to go 3.9's. I have the cash but I am trying to decide what I should go..
The guys building the diff said:
$2200 for the kaaz, 3.9's, oil. install etc etc. Drive in Drive out for 2200
or
$1600 drive in drive out for a real tight LSD..
Both of those would be a far better option to my current 3.08ss.. But i find it hard to decide what to do. The LSD will eventually wear it out after what I want to do with it, but the Kaaz will cope it fine.
I have been told in general road use the kaaz makes a LOT of noise and clunks and cracks around corners. Its meant to sound like this apparently but i dont know?
What would be the best option for these prices? Either rebuild the LSD on a regular basis. Or put of with constant noise and possible cop bait?
Any ideas on what would be best?

If the difference is only $600 I know which way I'd be going!
Then again, I'd just be banging in cheap ass s/h LSD's as they wear out.

Dad had a spool in his Mustang and it started ripping the car apart. I dont really wanna attract the cops too much either.

KAAZ without question!!!
I have one and the rumours you've heard about them making lots of noise is rubbish. You will not be disappointed going with the KAAZ, best diff ever!

Kaaz FTMFW.
Borgy LSDs are fucking gay for everything except towing small boats and accellerating in a straight line.

So it doesn't sound as bad as the rumors? Does yours make much noise Tim?
I was basically told by the shop that the LSD will get ripped apart after a decent skid, or enough hard work.. I dont want that..

+1 kaaz
The kaaz is actually pretty quiet..... no clicking or anything shit like that, Ive had mine for
couple years now its the best mod Ive ever done..... (Excluding boost

) Just replace
the oil every couple thousand kms and you'll never have to worry about it..... castrol
LSX90 does the job perfectly, dont bother with their expensive kaaz oil....

I've only every heard it make a noise once and that was once when I negotiated my driveway all wrong, which has only ever happened once.
They are not a noisy diff.

Thats awesome. I will give them a call 8am Monday and book it in. So far everyone that has actually used a kaaz i have spoken too has been happy.
How much is the kaaz oil? I got told every 3500km to change it? Also is there some sort of drail plug for the diff?

kaaz oil costs about 100bucks whereas the LSX90 only costs about 30..... yep 3500 sounds about
right, there's a drain plug for the diff easy enough to change the fluid.....

Kaaz = awesome and well worth it.
Word of advice, pay the workshop to bed it in for you as well. There isn't anything fun about low speed figure 8s.

Well kaaz is in. Just doing the 800km run in.. Going to take a while as I cant do over 80km/h.
Its pretty noisy and tight as **** atm, but was told it might loosen up a bit.
I will keep you posted with how it goes. I cant wait to finish the run and and fry the 17's so I can get new rims..

Are you sure it's a Kaaz? Have you seen the centre yourself?

I did a while ago when it was in the workshop. It was second hand out of a commodore. His wife hated the noise it makes on tight turns.
What would you suggest it is?

WTF!!! $1600 for a diff with an LSD...
Kaaz for sure, as its no comparison against an LSD. LSD's are gay like aids, only every time you peg leg, you get another dose of aids!

No one seems to know anything about a noisy Kaaz, so it sounds more like you've got some type of well fitted locker if it's not noisy all the time.

Just on tight corners. Like full lock and going slow.
The faster I go I don't hear anything, and regular corners I don't hear anything.
I will be getting pictures of it tomorrow so I can show you? Let me know what it really is lol

I've heard heaps of shit about the plates being noisy in them, alot of people reckon it's due to poor run in.
Apprently you can also set the plates up differently do give different preload which can quieten them up. Fukked if I know, but it's definately not the first I've heard of a KAAZ being noisy in a BW diff.

I put a second hand Kazz diff in my brothers R32 recently (whole diff, not center swap) and goddamn the thing is loud. Lots louder than even the 4wd systems lockers. I think it's preloaded up the wazoo and maybe also not run in properly, it's bloody tight too. Fun but

I have followed all the run in procedures correctly, but that's not too say the other guy that had it followed them.
Its actually pretty quite now. You have to do a 0km full lock turn to make it noisy.

lol nice.
Mine sounds similar to a seal on full lock, and has a small whine at 60-70km. Other then that its fine...
I cant wait to do 800km so I can see how they really handle.. Only 650 to go..

Digging this old thread up.
Is the LSX 90 still the best/cheapest diff oil for the KAAZ centre?
Also is it possible to get KAAZ oil overnight?

I use the Penrite limslip 140 heavy duty stuff with my KAAZ. I've have 3 different cars with KAAZ now and none of them have been noisier than the lokka I had in the falcon.
The one I've got in the skyline now is probably the noisiest one I've owned but only on real tight turns in carparks etc. Still nothing on the noises and bullshit that I used to get with the lokka.
KAAZ love 4eva!

Not sure about the oil for a Kaaz, but funnily enough I did change the oil in my brothers R32 diff the other week. It's apparently actually a Nizmo 2 way rather than a Kaaz, but we got some LS90 from repco for it and it's silent now

but still kicks 2 wheels whenever it's asked to.

The guys I bought mine off recommended
SAF-XA. Despite everything on the internet saying not to use synthetic oil, they recommend this one to all their customers and don't get complaints coming back to them. They've been using in their racecars' Kaazs for years. I ran mine in well over what's specified, changed the oil when it was due and it makes no noise. And all that helps me draw 11s black stuff.

After looking at a few 'drifting' threads I noticed LSX90 always kept popping up... So that's what Ive always
used, not problems here.... Its also much cheaper than the KAAZ 'approved' oil....
