Rumor: Heathcote closing down

Postby stevo » February 5th, 2009, 8:14 am

I hope this was wrong, but I just heard a rumor that Bob Jane purchased Heathcote with the plan of shutting it down. :?

actually was speaking to some of the drag people on the weekend and they were told that this is true(the purchase) and that he is going to turn this area into a oval track?

To re surface the whole track and return road it has been qouted as around about 60 grand too. which i believe has been looked at too

heathcote may be a fair way away, but its so much more relaxed then calder.
you pay less
you get more runs
if heathcote closes, calder will just become even more busy.

Yeah but calder is already too expensive and If we only have 1 track there is nothing stopping the prices going up even more.

Wasn't there a rumour on AFF & FM about this last year? Or 2007 even?

Calder will never get ANDRA approved again unless they move the drag strip off the race track.

its more business for calder obviously.
but youd think if hes already got an oval track, why would you buy a drag strip to turn it into another oval track, when all we want is a fkn good drag strip!

I didn't think Bob had much money.

I doubt it will be sold but anything is possible, as John said Heathcote has a lot more going for it. Distance is only a minor issue.

But if Bob buys and closes Heathcote I can see the price at Calder going up and more street drags.

Paul might have some news for us.

I totally agree with John, and have always believed that. I have been to both, and much prefer heathcote despite how far away it is. Calder is too full of muzzas, I have never felt comfortable even as a spectator, let alone racing!

for decades Bob Jane has been trying to become the Hugh Heffner of australian motorsport. He realised long ago that iff he conrolled it all he would stand to make alot of money. he has purchased and subsequently closed small motorsport complexes here and there all up the east coast. he owns a section of land just outside albury. it was ownwed by a local rallying/motorkahna club, he bought it with promises of eeping it running, making it better etc but then shut it down. the track is still there but its impossible to get onto and heavily over grown.

as fot the thunderdome at calder park, it is unsafe due to the tonnes of tyres its build on, shifting puting the track out of alignment
