~340,000 EF XR6 (my old daily/the family hack)

Was probably blown for about 10,000km, but it just used heaps of water and still went reasonably well so it waited for a while to be done. Pulling it down, it seemed to be on it's original HG and there was no record of it being done in the service history.

my ea never had the head gasket touched and its done 270000ish kms,the secret is fresh tap water ;) .
never ran coolant in it.
i flush the radiator and engine every year ;)
i always look around the head and block for leaks and theres no water marks yet and oils still clean and it performs very nice :D

EA - 280,000km's and still going (never replaced, bought it at 30,000km's so I'm pretty sure its the original)

EF - 210,000km's and still going, hasn't been replaced according to the service history.... but water seems to be disappearing somewhere and engine doesn't run silky smooth (I'm not sure if it ever did though) :?

what ya mean how did i change my thermo setup, all ive done is put a set of el thermos on it and hooked up a adjustible thermatic switch that turns them on and off at the desired temp you want ;)

with useing f resh water i really dont no what it is but i reckon the colant eats the head and the head gasket ;)

U had a good run, how long have u owned the car and have u maintained the cooling system over the time?

Well theres 82 and 92 theromostates and my XR6 runs between M and A but more so M and my other Falcon GLi runs between A and L

So pretty much having a lower temp thermostate would help make the head gasket last longer???

Im gona go buy a 82 and see if there is any difference and will you guys know.

I also bought a 72 degree thermostate as well so gona do a proper test between them and and see if the car runs right with lower temp sensors especially the 72 degree unit :D

Well i tested the 72 degree theromostate this morning and after a 30min drive it showed that it took about double the time to reach the start of letter M. This may be a good thing but it still reached letter M and i wanted to reach the start of letter A, so dropping a whole letter which would be significant.

Going to try the 82 later on 2day or next weekend and see how i go.

Im going to contact a few radiator places and see what they say and if the thermostates dont work out then im going to a radiator place and get it replaced or any other options i have.
