Radiator repair place in Brisbane?

Postby Malakai » February 10th, 2009, 7:45 pm

I have a pretty sick radiator in the AIT it is quite thick and it has copper end tanks. From what I've been told they don't make 'em like that anymore.

Anyway today after I ran the engine up to temp and let the fans cycle on and off a few times I noticed a small puddle under the radiator support panel. No leaks at the hoses in and out of the radiator so there is a leak somewhere on the radiator itself. I'll have to take it out on the weekend and see where it is leaking from. Could be an end tank or the core.

Does anyone know of a radiator place they would recommend?

I'll hit up Red Devil at Lawnton then, not sure when though. Depends on when I pull it out and have a look at where it's farked.

I found this site http://www.werribeecoolit.com.au/ford_radiators.html check out the 3 core bad boy they list there, it is the same as the one I have. I hope I can get it fixed.

I got mine from cairncross too - I don't remember the price but I think it was under $400, for a 3 core bad girl, had to shave the hell out of the fan shroud to make the fans fit it, it's quite thick.

Yep I cut the crap out of the fans I just put on the current radiator. That's why I want this one fixed or a new one that's the same.

I pulled the radiator out this afternoon, I counted three or four leaks beside where the fins come out of the side tanks. I'm no radiator expert but I don't think it's repairable. I'm out and about for work tomorrow so I will take a few detours and see what Stafford Radiators, Cairncross and Red Devil say.

In the end there were about five or six leaks in it. I could have had it fixed but who knows how long until it leaked somewhere else. I priced up a replacement three row, copper end tank one... they cost way too much. I ended up just getting a brand new two row V8 one. There is only two rows but they are wider than the rows in the old one. They said there isn't as much difference as you would think, which makes sense. I don't do any burnout comps so I will take the $320 saving. I'm happy because I farken hate leaks, plus there is a bees dick more room for the thermo fans.

I had no time to shop around, if this one isn't adequate then I will shop around for the best deal on a 3 row copper one and change to that. I have a feeling this one will be fine though.
