2010 Ford Taurus - BOOSTED

remember this POS they brought from America, in ... the late 90s I think it was?

Anyway, heres the 2010 model, from USA

vastly better looking these days imo, (although the rear is kinda muffed up) and the SHO model (pictured) sounds really good:
"
the Taurus SHO features the new direct-injection 3.5-litre EcoBoost twin-turbocharged V6 engine which reportedly develops 272kW at 5500rpm and 474Nm from 3500rpm.
This power is channelled through a six-speed 6F55 SelectShift transmission with a sophisticated torque-sensing All-Wheel Drive System.
The SelectShift combines typical automatic operations as well as paddle controls for spirited driving which allow “match-rev” downshifts and will hold manually selected gears for precise control."

Anyway, this is the first time a Taurus has impressed me ... so I thought I'd share, hahaha...
PS: it impresses me, but not to the point that I'd be glad about rumors of the Taurus eventually replacing the Falcon becoming reality

Ford USA will more than likely never make the standard Taurus RWD unfortunatly ....

AWD does the job for their sports 'SHO' model though I guess.

Looks heaps better than the last one for sure. Still don't think it could successfully replace the falcon however. Apparently they tried that on last time....

Not a fan.
And we wont need to worry about it replacing the falcon for a while. Because its unlikely.
But, imagine if the XR6T got that motor!

Not really. Its not really a luxury vehicle. But it does have a lot of nice features, and a pretty good looking interior.
But because of the current world financial crisis, Holden confirmed the other week that they wont be bringing Cadillac here after all anyway ....

It will, after 2013, unless Ford Australia decide to devlop their inline 6 further .... which I hope they do. Because the barra inline six is such a beast of an engine.
Frankly, I think the yanks should be using OUR engine. Wouldnt quite fit in mid size all wheel drive sedans though I imagine, lol.

just out of curiousity wtf is with Ford America and their novalty sized auto shifters?
That thing looks like it would take up my EB's center console, I remember driving a friend of mines GT500 and the thing had a shifter bigger then my hand in it.

unfortunatly that idea went while they were still developing the FG Falcon.
..... Ford Australia didnt want to spend (or didnt have the money to spend) money on developing the car for left hand drive.
I wish they'd export the Falcon to other right hand drive markets though. At least England, and maybe even Japan.

I believe it was because Ford Aus. weren't given the cash injection needed from Ford Global that was required to fully engineer for LHD, I was working for Ford on the FG at the time and that was basically what we were told, that the business case for LHD wasn't good enough to attract the cash injection so it had to be scrapped.
Also I don't think there is a very big market in Japan for a large Aussie car and England is more inclined towards mondeo sized cars, but i may be wrong.
On topic I reckon that Taurus looks pretty good, especially the front, the rear doesn't disgust me but I reckon it looks like the Aurion crossed with a WRX, but maybe thats just me!
If this did ever replace the falcon (hopefully it would still roll off the Australian production line), then I reckon the worst marketing move Ford could do is continue calling it the Taurus, it would need to be slightly re-styled and re-named for Australia to help distinguish it from the overseas models so that the crowd who think "holdens are more Australian than Ford because Holden are not american" can be fooled into thinking that it is an "Australian" car.

I also love how all the "experts" think Holden is so Aussie....Aren't/weren't they all based on Opels anyway?

Thats what good marketing can do! The worst decision Ford Aus. ever made was to keep the Ford name, instead of something "uniquely Australian" like calling it Holden instead of GM Aus.
Another good example is both Ford and Holden are going to start building a small car locally, Ford said "we will build the focus in Australia", Holden said "We will build a small car in Australia". Ford are admitting that they are effectively duplicating an overseas car in their local plants, but while Holden are making a "new small car" which will be a duplicate of some other platform just as the Aus Focus will be, but they do a better job at hiding that from the masses to keep the patriotic image.
If Taurus replaces Falcon I hope they dont call it the Taurus!

Every Commodore was based on an Opel counterpart up until the VE.
VE was entirely developed in Australia gladly. (as was the new Camaro too actually!)
But the 1978 Commodore was identical to the Opel Commodore in terms of looks. Aussie version was stronger to accomodate more powerful engines.
Each version of the Commodore got more and more different from the Opel Omega/Senator/Commodore as time went by.
By the time the VT/VX/VY/VZ series came along, all that was similar was pretty much the doors, a, b, and c pillar. Aussie version was far more superior.
To be fair to the Opels though, they put IRS in their 'Opel Senator' (1984 - 1988 VK and VL Commodores were based off this), but Holden kept the old setup in the VK and VL instead for some reason, and didnt introduce IRS into the Holden Commodore untill the mid 90s.

Pretty sure the Japs all want light weight cars
This taurus should get good traction with AWD, has a decent sized engine... I rekon there will be a lot of after market parts for the engine too, if there isn't already.... will be interesting seeing what the American tuners do with it...
imagine if these 500+rwkw falcons had AWD... the traction they would have... wonder what 1/4 mile times they would get

A few point regarding the speculation of this being the next falcon.
-The taurus is built on the mondeo platform, and are similer in size, Australia allready has the Mondeo, so they won't need this.
-The Falcon provides Utes and the territory, if the falcon goes so do these cars.
-the 2013 date is also unlikly for model change, most model cycles last 10 years. So the next one is due in 2018.
Its fair to say that the falcon will loose its current engines soon, the i6 is certain till 2012 (to must best knowlage). After that we might see the v6 under the bonnet.

Remember the BA was a major facelift for the AU, complete with mostly new mechanicals. So it was really 10 years. I think Ford once said 8 years is the standard time for a model change. It seems it's been going for a bit longer recently. I reckon with the FG it'll have a couple of minor facelifts, and one major one (aka EF and BA) before the next model comes out.

FG is also a MAJOR mechanical upgrade of the BA/BF. Not TOTALLY new.
Theres a TOTALLY new platform, SUPPOSED to be out 2012/2013. Codenamed 'Huntsman'. But maybe thats been scrapped, I dont know?

There was a plan not so long ago for a global large rear wheel drive platform to be developed, which was part of the Orion project (FG) but that was scrapped afaik
Australia was going to be the global development centre for this platform i.e. we design it, every other Ford corp. builds it, but as said i think it was scrapped

Fg was ment to be 80-90% new...Like going from a EL to a AU
Huntsman is canselled, it was the GRWD project.

Sorry to bring up an old thread of mine, but I went to the US in October 2009, and saw a few of these in the dealerships.... I was VERY surprised to see how big they were. Externally seeming 300C size.
