I'm going to buy some Bendix Ultimate pads to take with my in my spare parts box when I get to the race track next. If these UPC supplied ones are shit I will change them between events. I would like to give some Ferodo DS3000 pads a run but the car is 90% street driven and I think they will be a bit overkill for most of the time it's driven and harsh on the discs too.

You really need to bed pads in gently, and not lean on them for a few hundred kays after they are installed....I don't know that fitting a new set at the track and then giving them a raping will show the most accurate results....

Yeah I thought about that after I posted my last post. The UPC ones better not be shit then.

Does anyone have any opinions of or experience with Bendix 'Street Road Track' pads?

Mostly street with between half a dozen and a dozen track days a year. Circuit track that is not so much drag racing.

Well I got my set of black 17x9.5 Koya Drift Teks on the weekend and while I'm sorting out the best place to get my tyres from I need to think about how much the guard needs to be modified. As it turns out not that much at all I don't think, since getting my wheel alignment done with 1.5 degrees negative camber that is. Thanks to BI6TIM.

Borrowed one of Tim's Drift Teks to do another trial fit tonight. I thought I would put the pics in this thread since it shows the UPC brake kit quite well and I know of a few people that are curious how the 9.5" wide Drift Teks fit with the UPC kit.

Got fullysickness!?

They are 235/45 tyres BTW.
We put the car on the ground and moved it back and forth a couple of times to settle the car to the normal ride height this time.
I know the bodywork needs some TLC but the flash on the camera makes it stand out big time. :-( Sh|tbox!

Lose the pad ears, mill a flat surface so the caliper bracket sits flat.
Tada, one modified upright.
As for hub, more work, but take one E-Series disc, part down everything that makes it a disc... tada, one hub.
Alternatively, if you just want to buy the shit, and UPC is unhappy to sell individual parts, try ringing Racebrakes.
You might have more luck with them...

That is 100% the cheapest way for sure.. Pushes e-series offset out by whatever thickness the new disk is, about 10mm.
A territory vented 330mm will slide over an e-series hub/disk with the bracking surface parted off. Perhaps EL studs need to be installed to the e-series hub first.
Just freaks me out taking material out of an upright. A mill to get shit perpendicular would be A+ ideal. But brake pad will allow for fine tolerance faults once bedded in.

I understand that it is not the same as creating a part from new, but would modifying the uprights in this way still require an engineers scrutiny?

Modifying any part of the suspension or braking system requires approval by an engineer.

I think that the people that do the brake upgrades have either had an engineer look at their work and approve it, or they are qualified to do it themselves.

Don't fit Lanky. Problem is that the 9.5's have an offset of +18 and the 9's have an offset of +34. I can't be 100% sure but I'm pretty sure the 9's will touch the uprights.
Why would you take the risk of that when the 9.5's fit so bloody well, a quick roll of the guards and off you go, SICK wheels all round.

Yes, sorry was getting more at do you think an engineer or 'approved person' would sign off on the process listed? (mainly the part regarding making hubs out of the original rotors).

I realise in the end (in qld anyway) it comes down to the individual willing to sign off on the mod.

The outer edge will retract by 23mm and the inner edge will be 11mm closer to the upright compared to the 9.5" wide wheels. Unfortunately there is only about 10mm clearance to the upright with the 9.5" wheels. It would be bloody close.

The 8" wide ones would fit nicely but you would have to start wearing hi-heels and carrying a purse. more often

I can't see that being a major issue, but then I'm not an engineer :P
In my eyes, I think the key points the engineer is going to look at are going to be whether the material removed from the upright affects it structurally, and the design/manufacture of the caliper adapter, and whether it is up to the task.

skidder - I can't see it being a problem in QLD at least.

OED - If you really want to use 9s then you could get some 5mm spacers off nissansilvia.com, heaps of people use them and seem to have no problems. Would probably make the wheels fit perfectly on stockish guards.

Nikk - what do you mean? legalities of multi-fit wheels? Can't see there being a problem with them at all....?

67rce - that brembo setup is owned by a cockfag by the name of Matthew Coates, aka 347stroker. The stroker part is extremely accurate, believe me.

I meant modify in the same way they already are - just folding the inner lip under harder so the tyre can't pull it out.

No actual modification was done to guards, they still retain the factory shape on the outside. There was quite a bit of rolling the lip up behind though.
Brett has driven it around quite a bit today and has not had a scrubbing issue, sounds like a win to me.

It looks very deceiving nothin suss, the car actually has 2mm toe in as it has 1.5deg negative camber on the front, which did help the tyres fit under the guards.
I know this because I did the wheel alignment on it at work last week.

I totally agree with you there. I think Malakai's plan is to save some more money and go AU diff with KAAZ inside, which will get the rear wheels further out also.
Bring on the rear guard modification.

Yes I'm thinking that too, but I bet if I get an AU diff and put my lokka in it will upset the lokka and never work properly again. They can be temper-mental.

I love how it looks but I can't help but think that 17x8" +34 drift teks would look better on the front considering the rear track isn't as wide. Oh well looks like I need to make a decision one way or another.. but I'll probably just leave it as is.

As for scraping it hasn't yet. My suspension is pretty hard (kings and konis) so it doesn't move much. I went up and down several of those angled gutters, took some corners fast and did some quick tight u-turns with no rubbing. Winnah!
