2 quick questions

Don't laugh please.........

Firstly before i start some more work on my car a want to get it on a dyno again to see how it was running. when i got the cam timing setup they gave me a print out but with no info on it:

Image

what do i need to ask them for (i've read a few times something about shootout mode?) to get the air/fuel, intake temp, gear, and whatever else.

Secondly when buying rims say 18*8, what does the 2nd value (i'm guessing it's the width) affect? does it limit your tyre selection?

thanks
pete j

i can only really help on the 2nd q.

rims are usually quoted with numbers such as 18x8 which means 18" diameter and 8" wide 18x8 is fine for finding plenty of tyres but once you go 9 or 10 inches wide or larger than 19" diameter that it makes it harder to find rubber (and it becomes incredibly expensive too)

tyres are 235x30r18 or something which is 235mm wide, 30mm of sidewall and 18" rim hole

I can't read the scribblings on the printout properly but I think they're all power curves, with the cam timing being advanced and retarted by 4* each way?

No other info shown on the sheet. Not really the best printout!

yeah i know, those are 3 different curves at 4 retard, 0 and 4 advanced. if i can remember the air fuel was around 13.5 i think he said. thats why i'm wanting to know what i have to ask for this time so i get what i want.

and yes it's huge 178@ the wheels........gay

Actually I'm pretty sure that the 30 in 235/30 R18 means 30% of the width (235mm) which equals 70.5mm, I think that's right...

Tell the dyno operator that you want a plot of HP and torque versus RPM. And in shootout mode.

That should get you everything that you want.

thanks for that TUFED6. i've booked it in what do i need to look out for to see if they have done it right, i can remember something about the intake temp can alter the readings? any others?
