Fresh Start, re-introducing myself and my car.

Introduce yourself and your ride.

Fresh Start, re-introducing myself and my car.

Postby DEVLXR » February 21st, 2009, 10:01 am

Hi all it's been quite some time now since I was here so I hope I'm still welcome to be here.

I'll give you a bit of a run down on what I've been up to over the past year and a half.
Well since the old days my car has been through quite a lot. I pulled out the entire interior and picked up a absolute mint dash, plastics and roof lining for $50! I then scored some EL Ghia door trims and chrome handles off Phat EL. But to put these on I had to install electric windows and a EB Fairmont console. I then bought some ED Ghia full leather seats off ebay and added a set of EL grey seat belts to match the seats. I then installed an EF parcel shelf with a custom made vinyl trimmed board on top. I reduced the interior paint to only the dash and console facia's in a nice 2 pack gloss black. Over a few weeks I built myself a decent, tidy boot install with twin 12" subs and hidden amps. The hi-light is the cut out XR6 logo in the floor. Some carpeted kick panels and a 2" Air/Fuel ratio gauge on the A pillar bring the interior to where it is today.

I finally stopped being a hi-rider and slammed the front over the tires to a very nice ride height! The only other exterior differences include the ED XR front, 15% window tint, painted 2 pack gloss black around all the winows (pillars, scuttle, wipers etc), DEVLXR plates and EL door handles.

The engine bay has had a fair bit of work done to it too with it being resprayed (while leaving the motor in made it quite difficult but we got there in the end!) and mainly just lots of tidying up of wires etc and a few things painting 2 pack gloss black.

The motor is starting to get tired and a little noisy so I'm either aiming towards an AU motor and later get the Tickford head re-worked, or just rebuild my current motor. Not sure which way to go yet, money is still an issue being an apprentice and trying to save for a house!

Heres some photos from recent times including AFD '09.

I have to say it was good to talk to you again John at AFD, the amount of boosted cars on display was impressive and I must say I wasn't expecting Beth's car to be boosted! That was a shock!

Needs more turbo ;)

Seriously, That engine bay looks mint! Excellent job with the wiring 8-)

Rest of the car looks tops too, interior is a huge improvement.

Look at your car. Now back to mine. Now back to yours. Now back to mine. Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped buying dodgy cars and bought an ED, yours could be like mine. Look down. Back up. Where are you? ...You're on BoostedFalcon, reading the signature your signature could be like! Anything is possible when your car looks like my car... I'm on a computer.

No paint job mate unfortunately, most of the paint is pretty good apart from the drivers door and guard which is full of crows feet, the rest only has your typical little scratch here and there like most cars. Either way a respray is on the cards since I'm working in a panel shop!

Yes the engine bay is in serious need of a turbo! I've grown towards turbo's more now after being for a ride in Dylan's orange XR6T! The bay has come up well, I've spent a lot of hours trying to make it look as neat and tidy as I can.
And I also agree, the interior is more than a huge improvement, not only is there much less maintenance, it looks and feels better too. Oh the things you do when your young and dumb!

You've been nagging me for a while now haven't you! Yeah those two things would keep me pretty happy for a while! :D

galapogos01 wrote:car looks mint.

where'd you hide the engine bay looms?

Thanks. Firewall loom has been extended about 30cm's and tucked down behind the motor and under the heater pipes, map sensor is now under the manifold, firewall loom plugs can be unplugged if you get under the car, wiper motor loom has been extended and now runs back around under the guard and up into the scuttle (hole was filled before painting).
The drivers side loom was extended and put under the guard, needed a 5cm 'ish hole drilled, relays under the coolant bottle wouldn't reach back around so they now hide behind the guard along with all the thermo fan wiring. The relays next to the battery wouldn't fit behind the guard with everything else there so they now remain but at least they have a nice plastic cover to hide them. The battery leads are nice and simple now too with just two 4 gauge cables being used with some special hidden joiners to connect everything back up including stereo cables.
The other side of the engine bay loom was just tucked down as far as it would go and I re-shaped the carbon canister pipe so it's also hidden. Then the loom just behind the headlights is cable tied tight against the headlights so they don't flop around into view!
It all takes a lot of work but is well and truly worth the effort!

Hmm yeah the back seat is and the front passenger is pretty good, it only as a few heat cracks in the base. The drivers seat however has a few cracks in it and a nice big worn spot on the bolster where the previous owner slid in, pretty typical of these seats tho. I suppose 15 or 16 years of wear does that!

Rear springs are Kings SL's, Pedders shortened shocks. Front is Pedders Low springs with Pedders 30mm lower spring seat, shortened shocks. The front needs some bump stops tho as I've had the upper ball joint nut hit the underside of the engine bay a few times over harsh bumps/pot holes and actually dented the bay :( . Been thinking about ultra lows for the rear, although it has a tough stance at the moment with the front being slightly lower then the rear!

The belt cover is just of an EF mate, you can find them anywhere!

Boot install is just made out of MDF using a strong 12mm floor and 6mm walls, boot lid piece is light 3mm. All just covered in carpet from Bunnings. Best advise I can give is to plan your boot install first, don't try something too hard for your first time and make sure you double check your measurements before cutting!

Thanks mate, once it gets resprayed and 19" wheels I'll be more happy with the exterior ;) . I'm just driving the car at the moment, haven't touched it in ages which is good for me, although my money always ends up being spent and not saved anyway, I hate money!
