my new EL ghia

This is my new car I bought to replace my stolen EF fairmont ghia. People might recognise it as YBHVE4's old car.

Being an EL ghia it has the tickford engine and 3.45 lsd. It's pretty standard at the moment which suits me because I do alot of km's and need a reliable, non defectable and efficient car. The deviation's from standard are;
Rebuilt head (to suit gas), 2.5 inch exhaust, ss inductions intake, pod in the box, whitewalled standard 15's, UL rear and SL front with shortened rear shocks, NF/DF/etc cornering lights wired as fog lights, white rear venetians, mesh grill, ba fairlane bonnet badge, some head unit with USB (JVC I think), 12" JL sub, an amp of some sort (can't be bothered going out and checking).
Next year it will most likely get some boost. I want to get a cheap daily to run around in then turbo this but keep it looking pretty much the same for the sleeper look. Maybe just a bit of a tidy up.

This was my EF ghia which was stolen and stripped to the point of being a write off

Thanks mate,
never thought I'd be happy rolling on 15's but think I like the look of the whitewalled stockies more than the 18's on the EF.

No mods in the near future. Trying to save dollars at the moment but next year I'll be looking at perhaps buying a cheap run around and turboing the EL.
Only mods so far are 2.5" cat back, ss inductions snorkel and a boxed pod.
At the moment I'm happy with the way it is, as I do alot of kms and want it reliable and loving getting 450+ kms from $30 :)

Hey Mark,
I signed up ages ago but never really checked out the site. I've never been to any cruises or meets, I think I'll have to come check it out.

Yeah, that would be the one. ATM in in either a red EF gli or the white wagon with walls.

Will be sure to beep/flash when I see you next.

also did u have a famous sticker on the bottom right of the rear window?

Your old ghia was awsome I seriously thought about checking it out but I remember you mentioning the bottom end needed replacing and I really just needed something to drive asap. I think your 4sale add was where I got the idea for the venetians from. lol! I think I saw the wagon a little while back. Was an ea, eb or ed from memorey and the walls were on stockies. If it is the one, I thought that was really cool

The ef was going to the auctions. I think I had clarion speakers and I did have an extremely dodgy hole in the air box which I would like to apologise for to the person who ended up with it.
It was missing airbags, interior door handles, front grill and a few other bits and pieces.

Yeah thats the one. I had the famous sticker. I put that sticker on over four years ago. Now I see them everywhere, its like having jet pilot stickers on ss utes.
Did your mate get it for parts or to fix up?

Thats great, I'm glad someone could make something out of it. I actually thought I saw it from a distance at the airport a few months ago. It did start having the dreaded tick tick from the top end just before it got nicked. Was meaning to change lifters. All it had was the exhaust that I put on and the previous owner had put a different cat on(with standard exhaust). There was a k&n filter which was also taken. I'll look him up. It did have some unnecasary gauges which is why he may have noticed some holes inside and a pioneer dvd.
Appreciate the info mate

Hey David,
My names Rory. Thanks for letting me know, I wondered what happened to it. It really did need extractors. I'm guessing you got the ticking noise sussed? I was thinking it was a dodgy lifter but then thought maybe an injector coz it sounded like it was coming from the fuel rail. You would have noticed the lack of one coil from the back springs. lol! I know why its not the best way to lower a car now I have one with propper lowered springs and shocks. Glad to see you've done it properly. lol! Sounds great what you have done, would definately be interested in seeing some pics and catching up at a meet or something.

Yeah I have dug up two remotes but I think one might be from my old eb ghia(they look the same). I'll get them both to you and you can give them a try. Theres a meet in Hallam this tuesday night I think I'll go to.
How they stole it, I don't know. I was hopeing you might have been able to tell me because you obviously sorted the wiring out and got it going. I thought maybe they plugged there own ignition barrel in. I didn't check it out to much I just got a few posessions that weren't taken. I saw it at the towing place and I nearly teared up. lol! As you can see from my pics up the page it looked quite different to how it ended up. The cops said it was found under a tree(explains the bird shit). The messed up thing was the cops told me it was fine to pick up and was fully intact. I had to wait a few days to find out it wasn't because the towing place was closed due to Easter. Not fun times!

oh ok sweet that would make life heaps easier with the remote lol
i honesly dnt no how they did it, i saw a couple of wires in the fuse box one went to a fuse n one went to the door for an earth but then how did they undo the steering lock
yer the car was in a huge mess when i bought it was missin almost everything that was good in it, suprise they didnt take the motor n that
did the insurance pay u out???
when u had it did the rear passenger window didnt work??
so what mods did u do to it coz it goes awsome???

Yeah remotes all yours, its obviously of no use to me. No mods mate. Just the cat and exhaust which you would obviously know about. I'm thinking the thieves were up specing a base model seeing as they took chrome handles, ghia and tickford badges etc. Maybe a fairmont seeing as they took the EL grill. I've heard they are pretty hard to get going because of the smartlock but they would have had a fair bit of time because I had it parked in a back street in the city and I was pretty far away. Umm! the window, that broke along with the front one, the head gasket and fuel pump in the space of 2 weeks of owning the car so I did a bit of a dodgy and chocked it up with a piece of wood behind the door trim.
Insurance payed out. Had fire and theft and got the maximum 5000 for third party. The car was worth more to me because of wheels, stereo etc but was happy just to get some money out of them in the end. They made me feel like the criminal when I was making the claim. I had a real bad run of luck around then. I managed to smash the VE commodore rental the insurance company gave me.

Yeah like already mentioned theres people in Melbourne that do it. I scuffed mine on a gutter and tryed patching it up. Looked well crap though!
Speaking of whitewall, I had a random guy come up to me today in a carpark and say that he had just been defected for his whitewalls. Apparantly the cops are on to it and its unroadworthy because the tyres label is lightly rubbed back before painting.

I'm sure the writing on a tyre is an integral part of the sidewalls strength! lol!

yeahs its a new thing thats come out. but apparently according to vicroads that it only applies for tyres made 2009 and newer.

my mate got a defect for them 2 weeks ago. went to vic roads and they said there is no problems with it.

Walls are legal, its only when they take too much off the tyre and you cant read the specs that its illegal.

Cheers mate,
The red walls would look good I recon. Kind of like the old GTHO's. Would go well with the red side moulds too. Saw a VN SS with red walls on factory 15's the other day, looked good.

So its not about affecting the integrity of the tyre but more about the info on them?
I'll just tell the cop he can read the specs on the other side of the tyre!

Last time I was down at the Whitewall joint they had just been at the copshop and thats what they told them. What they take off, is replaced by the walls. Some dodgy places take too much off and you cant read the load ratings. I think it applies more to people who have 20" low profiles and want a 10mm thick wall. On a 15 it hardly matters.

basically yes... but they're now targetting cars with them so be aware.
even if the walls are done the legal way, they might just get something else on the car.
sucks :(

Need advice.
I'm thinking of getting the chrome trim pieces that go over the wheel arches. Never been a massive fan but think it will tie in well with the cars theme.

The emblem is off a BA fairlane and the grill is just some mesh behind an EL fairmont grill. I bought the car with both already done. YBHVE4 is the guy to talk to about the specifics.

Hey mate quick question bout your tyres. are they 225's? my 15's look like they have a bigger bulge in the tyre then yours. once again, i love the white walls! ha ha guess i should be telling YBHVE4 that i love the white walls :P gonna look at getting my red walls very soon :D
