another generic introduction thread.

Hey everyone,

My name is jason and I am from Sydney and I thought I should throw together a quick introduction about myselfand the car. I have a 97 EL gli with Fairmont ghia interior that I actually purchased in 2009 from the auctions to be a tow car for my Supra and Silvia. I sold the Silvia about 3 months after buying the falcon and after BHG and warped head love :grin: the car then got an engine refresh and has not really been used much for the last 2 years.

Anyway the time has come that I decided it needed a bit of a tidy up, and my friends have tried to convince me to sell and buy another Silvia or mk3 Supra etc (import guys) and for that reason I am keeping the car. :D

I already had a few parts from a previous EL so that was my start. It is currently on chassis stands in my garage undergoing the suspension upgrades as we speak, as well as exhaust and extractors. I will then continue with the stereo upgrade, and looking at engine motivation options.

As I have come from the Japanese import scene more recently I am a big fan of the "stance" movement and as such I am trying to find some decent offset wheels that will fulfil this properly. If anyone knows of any wide (8-9 or wider) low or negative offset wheels in a 16inch size, or knows where I can find some, that would be great. :grin:

I will put up a build thread with pictures in the next couple of days so that people can see what is happening.

The stud pattern on falcons is the same as supra/silvia etc, and E-series offset is 0, so you'll probably just need to keep that in mind when looking in the usual places for rims (jap importers etc).

It's possible to fit the diff from an AU falcon with a little work which will push the hub faces out 35mm each side at the back (AU have +35 offset just like supra/silvia etc) and you could use hub adapters at the front if you absolutely had to (even though they are illegal and shit).

There are twin piston brake upgrade kits around which change the front end to AU offset as well, just depends on if you think better brakes are worth the money (yes...) and you're dedicated enough to getting good stance.

Make sure you check the center bore diameter on any wheels you get, you might need to have small rings made up to make sure the wheels have a snug fit on the center bore and aren't just hanging on by the studs.

Just make sure the centre bore isn't too tight too! The ABC's I had on the front required me to disassemble the wheel bearings to get the wheels off!

Thanks guys. These are exactly the places I have been looking and there really are none around. Its really hard to find low or negative offset wheels. I think I will be looking at going the AU option.

Funny that on the old EL I was running speedy graphite 18x8.5's and fitted them to my mates s14 and it worked quite well, just a little bit too wide until we rolled the guards.

I will come up with something for this car as I would definitely love to get the look right and really dont want to use spacers if I dont have too.
