Introduce yourself and your ride.

1994 ED XR6

Postby RYNSXR » July 15th, 2012, 10:46 am

hi im ryan and im new to the forum, ive been on here for about a month looking around and i like what i see so i thought id put up some pics of my xr6.. this is the third ed xr6 sedan ive had, previous cars were both manual the first car being cobalt blue and the second car being pearl black..

i bought this car in melbourne a few months ago and its a one owner with full service history.. the car came with factory options such as:

sunroof
momo steering wheel
cruise control
super sports pack ( suspension )
16'' sports wheels

ive just put my 19'' ba 2 gt-p wheels on which have the pre au offset..

the car looks to be untouched apart from a k&n air filter, genie extractors and a 2 1/2 '' mandrel exhaust which was done by the previous owner.. i would like to do a few other things to the car which include:

cd player with new speakers
rear head rests - which i still have to fit properly
personalised number plates
pedders springs - i would like the car to sit about 20-30mm lower than it is now
good detail - inside and out, paint and polish a few bits and pieces

overall im pretty happy with the car and it runs like a dream only having done 173000 k's.. i want the car to look factory apart from the wheels and the ride height.. ill be driving this car when im not in my work car or my other car which is a cortina wagon.. ill put up some more pics when ive done a few other mods..

Welcome!
Nice pick up there.
nice colour and the wheels look great.
always nice to pick up a one owner car with books.
needs to be lowered though kinda looks 4wd ish.
cheers

yeah thats it.. id like it to sit the same as my previous xr6, it was low but was still nice to drive but it had 18'' typhoon rims not 19'' rims.. im gunna go with pedders springs again.. the green ef you have as your profile pic, how long have you had it for ? was this car for sale not long ago on ebay or car sales ?

had a feeling it was the same car..i looked at some photos of it, seems to be a nice car and in excellent condition.. theres a dark blue el xr on ebay at the moment, nice looking car, the asking price seems to be a lot for an el..

mine wasnt cheap either but with the money put into it i cant argue.
only reason i bought it was so i didnt have to do any interior or exterior mods.
im only going to do engine mods when i can afford it.

thanks mate, yeah i dont mind polynesian green but would have prefered pearl black or cobalt blue.. when i looked at the car and noticed how clean it was and the fact that it had the sunroof, momo wheel, and manual gearbox i was keen to buy it.. i cant be getting to picky about the colour as there getting harder to find in this condition..

ok guys i thought id do an update on my car, ive given the engine bay a final clean as it looked like it hadn't been done for a while buy the previous owner..

Image
Image

then i decided to paint the grey plastic behind the mirrors as it was faded.. thought about using plastic polish but it was too far gone so i used 3M charcoal grey satin bumper & trim paint and turned out to be the same colour as before.. the grey looks a bit dark in the first photo but looks better in the second photo, it was a cloudy day..

Image
Image
Image

i also painted the plastic trim under the wiper arms with the same paint.. while i was at it i decided to paint the wiper arms and the plastic trim that clips to the back of the bonnet in satin black as they were faded aswell.. pretty happy with how it all turned out..

EB S XR6, cleanest E-Series I've ever seen.. and I swapped it for a car that was full of dodgy shit and lies! Silly me.

Cobalt was an option across the range I believe, I've owned the XR6 and an EB Fairmont 5l that were both cobalt

Definitely a gorgeous looking car! As others have said, it's getting hard to find e-series that don't look like they've spent their whole lives as taxis in baghdad.

Dare I ask what happened to the previous XRs?

Look at your car. Now back to mine. Now back to yours. Now back to mine. Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped buying dodgy cars and bought an ED, yours could be like mine. Look down. Back up. Where are you? ...You're on BoostedFalcon, reading the signature your signature could be like! Anything is possible when your car looks like my car... I'm on a computer.

thanks mate, taxis in baghdad haha so true.. as for the previous xr6's that i owned, the cobalt blue one was sold to buy the black one as it was in better condition had 60,000 less k's was a manual and had a factory fitted sunroof and momo steering wheel..

i also liked the look of the black xr's more and had always wanted a black falcon.. then i found a td cortina wagon which ive always wanted and was very keen to buy it.. it was in very good condition and i had lost interest in my td cortina sedan project and also the xr6..

so instead of handing over cash which i didnt have at the time the guy was open for swaps so we did a trade and i havnt seen that xr6 since.. i now have 2 cars that im really happy with and have decided to hang on to them..

ok guys, i thought id do an update on my car.. i got my car lowered on monday by my mate who runs pedders suspension in my town.. i wanted the car to be low but practical so it could be drivin with out the tyres scrubbing or it bouncing around on the road.. so here's some pics

ImageImageImage

my plan was to go with pedders sports ryder springs, but my mate recomended pedders touring springs as they are a softer spring and the car would ride better..
im glad i did! out of all the cars ive had this xr has the nicest ride.. im really happy with how it drives on the road.. the touring springs were a bit cheaper aswell..

the car already had koni shocks in it an they were fine so we left them in.. my mate mentioned that the car has a camber kit which i didnt know about until now.. it must have been fitted by the previous owner

Image

while the car was at pedders i also got a new a/c belt and alternater belt fitted along with radius rod bushes, new front wheel bearings and brake rotors.. my mate recomended a wheel alignment aswell which was no doubt a good idea.. he told me that the car is pretty much a1 now that this stuff has been done..

Image

today i decided to paint the brake rotors and calipers.. i decided to go with vht gloss black brake paint.. the calipers looked a bit skanky and the rear rotors had the rusty look.. i would have left the front rotors but they already had signs of surface rust and are only 4 days old ??

i cleaned the front brakes with prep wash then gave them 3 coats.. i only did what you can see because i didnt want to get paint on the rubber bushes behind the caliper.. i gave the rear rotors a sand with 180 grit to get the rust of then did the same as what i did on the front brakes..

ImageImageImage

while the sun was still out i finally got around to painting the cruise control buttons.. they had discoloured and looked crap, so i back masked everything and painted them with motospray satin black..

Image

ive been after a sticker for my back window and was after something simple.. i bought some tickford stickers on ebay and put one on today.. forgot to mention in my first post that ive polished the boot garnish with plastic polish and painted the silver around the number plate the same colour as it was faded..

ImageImage
thanks for looking..

They are brake rotors.. not drums ;)

Car looks good, how much did the Pedders springs set you back, I wouldn't mind a softer spring rate than the Kings for my car
