Yep, it's the box behind the airbox. Pipe from turbo shoots across the rocker cover into it, and then back out/into the intake manifold. Well-packaged setup!

GQ's dont need driveline mods. Only the clutch would need it in a manual, the box would need work in an auto.

Has heavy duty clutch. I wont be chasing 400KW, so it's not going to be an issue. Otherwise i will get a twin-plate set-up custom made.

I scored a GQ bonnet off ebay for 30 bucks,so if it get butchered, who cares?? I have to trim a fair bit off the ford bonnet. So if it ends up looking shit i will can it, and go for something else  some monaro scoops :o or back to the original idea, some XA GT scoops (a lot less work )

Thanks man......Had to re-do the manifold as the clutch reservoir has started to show some signs of getting hot.....ie the kent has melted a bit........bugger!!!!

Finished my 3 inch exhaust on the weeend. 3 " magnaflow cat, twin 2 1/2 mufflers in parallel (fitted even better than i had hoped ) to full 3 inch out the rear.
A pic for the curious....

Total cost for the exhaust was nearly $600 and a few hours of my time.....

I know Ive asked this before but what parts of the dellow kit werent you happy with?

My Mav killed an alternator on the weekend and as always it gets me thinking about taking the motor out and putting something better in.

Now that I have half of a turbo conversion and an ECU for an EF I reckon an EF motor would be good idea :P

Is the falcon power steering pump happy with the bigger tyres? What do you do about the clutch setup? Is it a GQ one or Falcon one?

Have you been on any decent angles in it yet? Does the motor complain about oil pressure when its on an angle?

Where did you cross your exhaust over?

Did you end up getting yours tuned? How does it go?

Cheers,
Dan

Hey Dan,

The only parts i got from Dellow were the bellhousing and clutch plate. Had to re-drill the slave cylinder mounting, as it was a country mile out. Used the original nissan fork etc'. Ford fly' and pressure plate. I have to get a GU patrol master soon, to replace the one i got now, as it's got a bigger bore which will give more travel on the clutch, relieving some pressure off the bearing.

I have only got 31 X 15 X10.5R's, but the motor doesnt stall at low speed, if anything the ford pump is better than the Nissan one as the steering is a bit lighter. Was going to get fancy and use one of the outputs from the ecu to control a solenoid to bypass some of the pressure to make the steering a bit heavier at speed, so you can get a bit more feel, but not really that important ATM.....

Engine oil pressure has dropped to an alarming(literally) point, as my driveway is above 45 degrees, and i had the car idling waiting for the kids to come out of the house, frightened the crap out of me.....suffice to you would have to modify the sump to look like a nissan one, which is ok when going up hills, but so so good going down. Might get inspired to do a dry sump set-up, which would be perfect, but have to decide where to put the reservoir. Could easily piss the A/C pump off and mount the scavenge pump in that position.

Exhaust is crossed over under the motor. At the moment the dump pipe is "just" scraping the exhaust wrap of the pipe, so i will make a rectangular box to keep the flow, and give another half inch clearance, which is all it needs.
Image
Dump pipe has changed since this pic was taken, but you get the idea......

That pretty much sums up the conversion, as you can tell it's not a backyard job, so if you dont have access to some decent machinery,it will be time consuming, to say the least.

I had it tuned 2 weeks ago. How does it go??? like a freight train. I think if this motor was in a Cortina or even a Falcon for that matter, you would have to be very impressed. I got 227.5 rwkw @ 14 pound boost. I have low boost set now at 9 psi, and high is 13ish. Guy that helped tune it said it's fecking scary on the road.

Pity you're so far away, i would love to take you for a spin.............

Thanks for the info, Ill need to do some more thinking I think. Ill call dellow tomorrow too if I get a chance.

There are a lot of benefits with using the falcon motor. Its hard not to consider it.

Love the conversion. On paper a 4L should be a great motor for a 4WD, I'd never seen anyone actually do it though.

Not sure if it would fit but an AU sump (and pickup) might help solve the surge problems. The pickup is much smaller and the AU sump has a more effective windage tray/baffle.

What does the Nissan sump look like?

It's not a Patrol, its a Maverick(Body by Nissan, Soul by Ford)

Everyone has the right to their own opinion. No doubt they all have V8's in theirs???....hmmffff.....fuck-all room for a V8 if you ask me(except a Windsor). The few conversions i looked at on Outerlimits4X4 looked so dodgy, i am amazed they passed.

I thought it went heaps better than the Nissan 6, and that was while on the factory ecu, and running a bit rich, and was using way less petrol, but had more pull especially top end.

AU sump would fit, but you would have to cut the bottom off it, as i have done to mine, for diff clearance, I have been thinking about an AU motor to fix up when mine finally dies(should be a while off yet ;) )
There is plenty of room to end for end the sump, and make it a bit deeper. AU sumps fit EL blocks???? I dont think the baffle/windage tray would be of any benefit in a 4WD. As i said a dry sump is the only way to ensure you have a good supply of oil at any angle the vehicle is at.

Dan, the falcon alternator has the same connection as the nissan one so the wiring plugs str8 in.

Cheers

Lol it has slowness nissan features, such as a 700,000km 4.2LT N/A Diesel. We had a GT35/40 on it once running 6psi, needless to say i never built 6psi as they dont rev hard enough lol
