Hello Everyone (New car inside)

Hi, I'm Daniel and i own a EF Futura. I have been a member for a while, but I have never introduced myself or my car. So now i think its time to finally do it.

Im Daniel and I live just near Ringwood in the Eastern suburbs of melbourne. Im studying so im always broke, and my car always pays for that. Well thats me and now on to the car.

Since I've owned the it I've done a few things, not as much as any of the other people on here have. It was totally stock apart from a 2.5" exhaust. Since then I have taken some parts out of my EA S-pack and put it into the EF. Those parts would be: King Superlows all round, Extractors, a Wade 1636 cam, and an average sound system. Since then i have had the windows tinted, installed a shift kit and put on some 18" wheels. Next i was going to do a Manual Conversion, but that has now been placed down the list. I need to get some other stuff fixed first. It's idling quite bad and somtimes looks like its going to stall and is chewing through the fuel (350 Km this tank with no thrashing at all). V8Capri (Paul?¿?) said that i need to get the ECU remapped to fix this problem. So i guess the Manual wont be happening for a while. Anyway, here are some Photos. Let me know what you guys think. (Sorry if the pictures aren't that great, they are from my phone. My parents took the digital on holidays with them)

Welcome.

Changing the intake pipes to a one piece will add more KW to your engine :P

Nice Car Though :)

with the rough idle it might be an intake gasket or even just a vaccum hose has fallen off. try checking your map sensor

I got my car back yesterday after a long wait. It has a stage 3 snort kit with a stage 6 manifold on it. I haven't had tuned yet as its having some problems. Someone may be able to help me out here. When after i have out my foot down for a bit, it blows a bit of smoke. I put on the catch can thinking that it might help, but still no luck. When i was under the bonnet i noticed that oil seemed to be coming up the dip stick. Some mate came around and they were checking it all out. I heard them mention a couple times that it could either be the o rings or the head gasket. Does this sound right? Anyway, they are coming back around tomorrow to do a compression test to see if they can nut it out. Some pics for your viewing too:

It's prolly just running rich. A tune will fix that.

Dont be to worryed about a little blow by just make sure the catch can is set up with good sized hose and has a good breathers

Number one advice don't give your car shit when it hasn't been tuned yet, drive it off boost where possible. If there is oil coming out of the dip stick that will probably be crank case pressure, so make sure the rear and front breathers on the rocker cover go to a catch can, also fark off the PCV.

sexyr6:
The mechanic wanted to put all the piping in with out having to cut anything. It goes from the turbo to under the radiator bottle, then down (just hangs below the line of the bumper), to the IC, under the huge ABS thing (again just below the line of the bumper), then comes up behind the oil filter and round the top.

Cranners, hXc_Cam:
I actually live in warranwood (just behind north ringwood) but I just say ringwood as lots of people dont know where warranwood is. You'll see me around eventually :D

dont drive the car under boost without tune or at least check mixtures on the dyno to ensure correct fuel ratio

you may have dammaged the ringlands already :(

the fuel pressure regulator supplied with the stage 3 kit is 2:1 adjustable and is suited for aftermarket ecu, injectors ect, if you wish to run the j3-chip with low boost you will require the 12:1 fmu to increas fuel under boost conditions

check no hoses are connected to engine from intake manifold , you will need to setup crankcase breather ( rear rocker cover ) to the intake of the turbo ( place the catch can in-line to this )

common mistake is to block the breather , venting to atmo is not suggested

Thanks Geoff.

I think its done a head gasket now. I took off from a round about (slowly) and there was steam everywhere. I'm going to rebuild the engine with an ACL rebuild kit or something similar now. I'll have to call my mechanic tomorrow to discuss.

if its headgasket not so bad, surface the head replace gasket with permaseal mls gasket 1.4mm available through bursons , bosch 023 fuel pump injectors get the car tuned :)

Geoff:
Yeah i was going to get a bigger head gasket. I've already got the pump and injectors. Just have to get everything fixed then i'll get it tuned.

Sexyr6:
Pictures of the car from the directly under? I don't have any sorry. i might try sticking the camera under and see if i can get a decent one though.

Since last post i have reaplced the head gasket with at 1.6mm ACL copper head gasket, put on a new head that has been ported and and with bigger exhaust valves and new valve springs to suite the turbo cam that it came with. Head and Cam thanks to Rollin'.

I had it at CVE this morning for a dyno tune and it made 232.8 rwkw at 6 psi which i am very pleased about.

Bit of an update. Due to the car never working for more then a day at a time, I've taken the engine and turbo gear out and replaced it with a stock engine. I've since bought a 2002 BA XR6T for a bit more reliability. It is a manual with only 45000 km on it. I was after something with leather and a sunroof, but when I saw the km on this I started to change my mind. She said that the previous owner has worked the engine a little but I think its only got an SS CAI and an exhaust. Future mods include lowering it, rims, external wastegate so i can have a screamer and if my injectors fit, maybe some valve springs and a tune.

I have a few questions that people may be able to help me with which can save me creating a new thread:
I have some 6 x 9 speakers. Will they fit in the rear holes with spacers?
I have some Siemens 60lb injectors that i got for when i was going for 300rwkw in the old car. Will they fit into this car?
What colour are stock injectors in these cars?

I'll also have a cheap EF for sale soon if you or someone you know is interested. Stock engine (wrecker said under 250000km but i have no way to verify this), lowered with super lows, tinted windows, battery in the boot, LSD. I'll put a FS thread together once its time to go.

What did you do with Rollins old head?

Stock BA injectors are 29lb. The 60lbers should fit

It's got an exhaust on it. I think it's 3". I haven't had a real good look at it. It has the SS Induction on there. She said to me that the first owner had done something to the engine but she didn't know what any of it was and she's forgotten now as she bought it back in 2004. I suppose I should just get into on a dyno and that'd give me a fair idea

6x9 wont fit. they are 5x7 stock
the 60lbs should fit ok
stock injectors are blue.

EDIT: just saw you asked if they would fit with spacers. well the parcel shelf sits over the top so they wont fit under the shelf and exposed spacers look soo ghey.
