Hey Guys,
New to the board here, I may be one of your few, if any, American members. Spent a semester at Monash Uni and picked up an EA Series 1. Loved it so much I'm trying to get it imported to the States, so I may be asking for some help... Anyway, I love these cars, and I'm thrilled there is a board of such enthusiastic owners for such an underappreciated car.
-Matt
(Its an 89 EA Series 1, 5 speed, 3.9 EFI S Pack - More or less stock w/ EB S wheels, Superlows and some headers, or "extractors")

If he thinks an EA is brilliant, all american cars must really be shithouse.

Snyper - Viper engine FTMFW!!!
Fixit - What do second hand viper engines go for over there? It would be a great conversion.
Also, ask whoever sends your car to you to send over a couple of AU head gaskets and head bolts to go with

donno - LOL. My brother just came back from a month over there and he reckons all the cars are actually crap - he was pretty disappointed.

@Dumpsta - I'm located in Detroit, but I just moved here from North Carolina, so its frigid
@SnyperEB - Due to our importation laws, its extremely difficult to import anything newer than 25 years. There are a few XA-XC cars over here (maybe 25?), but not really anything later.
@Rollin - Yeah Viper engines are a bit pricey, so I think I'd just want to Turbo the original mill. Head gaskets noted. So far the car hasn't had any problems other than a rear control arm bushing failure.
@Donno - Most American cars from the last 20 years are pretty bad. I just want to bring the EA over because its different . Not particularly brilliant, or nice. Mine needs a bit of cosmetic work.

years ago now, i saw a black left hand drive EB Fairmont Ghia with New York plates in a holding yard in Sydney.
was looking a bit untidy so i'd say it was back here for sorting out.
sorry no pics (really wish i had) it was before i even really had an interest in eseries....

Sweet!! There is a law where you can temporarily import a car into the US for up to a year. After that, the car must be sent back to its home country before it can spend another year in the states. Aussie expats can do this. That would be my guess anyway...

There would be no point in importing it for just a year. There would be a way that you could have it over there permanently. You can import US cars here and get there registered and they are right to stay year for as long as they like.
No offence I would say there a few more than 25 XA-XC's over there. The American's love em. I remember reading and article in Aussie Muscle Car Magazine that they know of over 50 of them in the states and 48 of them are in showroom condition. From memory.

its a taxi, or yellow government sort of car, the daily plannet big piece of art work/sign falls down and lands on it.

EB Barbie - Thanks, I'll keep ya up on how it goes.
LTDHO - HAHAHA yeah I know now that the EA is not the pick of the litter, but I already own it. When I got to Oz, my requirements for a car were:
Australian
RWD
6 or 8
Manual
I looked at some Commodores and an XF, test drove a HT Kingswood, then decided on the Falcon. To be honest, the sound sold me. I've been really happy with my EA and now it needs to come stateside.
