EA Falcon

Postby IgorEA » May 28th, 2009, 7:30 pm

Hey all, I've been reading a few of the posts here for a while so I decided to sign up and get involved. Currently im just waiting on my Falcon which I should be receiving on the 4th, it is my dads car and I've been around it for a matter of few years so know it fairly well. It is an EA Falcon GL its done around 270,000km even though it displays 207,000 due to some dodgy instruments. Recently it had a few problems and was mixing oil with coolant some of it which had entered into the engine successfully making the car a 5 cylinder, a bit of dodgy patchwork has it back up and running on all 6 but its not perfect. On start up you need to add a bit of gas as well as a few other smaller issues such as the gearbox slightly off center and not displaying correct or the windshield jets having some dodgy wiring. Overall the car is fairly destroyed, I will be attempting some quick fixes first then seeing what can be done about the engine. I'm not very mechanically minded but am hoping to learn a bit more :), for now I got a few pictures of the car its completely stock. Couldn't get into take photos of the engine bay tommorow as was time restricted but will do soon, nothing special to see its pretty beaten up.

First thing on the list is a good clean.
Cheers guys.

Had a mechanic take a look at the car, as it so happens it is a late EA Series 1 (1990) one of the last in the production line and it came out of the factory with a 3.9l MPFI engine which according to him was rare. Currently it seems like the car has done a headgasket and a few other bits and bobs need to be done. His advice to me was to get a low km E series engine over an AU engine. Will keep the updates as they come :)

Good starting point matey! Reminds me a bit of RMYERS' EA back in the day.

My advice is that if changing engines, do stuff like head gaskets, head shaving and rear main seals on the new engine before putting it in the car. Saves a lot of drama down the track.

Yeah, luckily ive got a lot of friends in the automotive industry. The guy helping me with the car is the General Manager of a Holden/Mitsu/Suzuki dealership here in Perth and another one is the Regional Manager for Suzuki Australia. Im pretty set for most of the things, once we start doing more notable things ill make a build thread for now its just petty, cleaned the interior fixed up some stuff with the sound system and put in a few interior neons. Cheers for all the support guys, hope that I can make a decent contribution to the site with this Falcon :).
