Vicfords Inspiration

Postby Commando » April 17th, 2008, 6:16 pm

(This may be rich since it's coming from the #1 site whore)

I've noticed lately there's been a fair bit of low-quality-off-topic banter amongst the newer members in tech/build threads. Perhaps a "chatbox" feature as per VicFords can help keep some of the threads from getting clogged up with crap?

Just a thought. Might be a waste of time or a -1 to site cred, or it might be a success where people interested in on-topic action can read threads without going through half a dozen off-topic "lol/+1/FTW/hey what u doing tonight lulz" posts

I think just ban the offending users. They have mostly been warned, there are other forums they can go to.

Perhaps newer members caught desperately trying to bolster up their post count with roflposts can be reset to 0? :D

No warnings, back to zero... They can figure it out for themselves.

i think everyone can be considerd guilty about being a post whore, me included.
maybe a MOD could make a sticky in the general discussion section for bullshit post, and if someone only does it to build there posts up then they get a warning, or a 24 hour ban, then I.P banned.

Thats just my idea though, ive seen it done on other sites and its worked well.

I admit I have been warned in the past. Not that I intend to "post-whore" but I figure a forum like this isn't all about technical specs on cars but also humour/wit/socialising etcs...
I have no problems with being set back to zero if it makes the mods feel better ;)

Not saying you guys are doing this now, but all we need is another 3 or 4 members post up their confessions as well and this thread has suddenly gone from a "how to deal with post whoring" thread into a "confess your post-whoring here... by post-whoring" thread ;)

v8central.com have a shtknt post meter thing under avatars that illuminate everytime a mod thinks they've made a shit post, once all are illuminated you are banned. EDIT - I am banned there
bit like demerit points

illumination disappears after a couple of weeks from time shite post was made.

seems to work alright

- i think chatbox works good, a place for random posting (esp when drunk commando) :D

Or instead of displaying the number of posts you've made; just "POST-WHORE"
or "POST-PRO"
"RENT-A-POST"
"SHITE-POST ADDICT"
"POST MONGER"
"THREAD FLOOD"
you get my drift (no pun intended)

Wayne we don't take this shit seriously brudda.

The average E-Series is now worth $5k in mint condition.

GT's are worth a considerable amount more, but it must be noted that we have no GT owners amongst us (except one who I don't think posted pics).

So, in light of this - this is an enthusiastics forum for people with locally manufactured cars that are worth <$5k.

Wow, I'd never realised 131 was top 2% ! I thought anything under about 145 was considered "reasonably smart", none of this genius stuff.

Was that from one of them online ones? I get a different result everytime I do one of them. So I am consistently inconsistent.

Ok, instead of a chatbox thingy, how about a public off-topic/flame section? Keep some of the crap out of the proper discussion areas?
I want a place where we can discuss in detail why 80's films, music, and hairstyles are far superior to their 90's versions.

You do a test, you can do them online.

I used this same one a couple of times Steve. It varied by 4 on the second time round so not much.

Out by 4 is ok. When I did it the second time, it was 20 less. The other possibility is the innernet is making me dumber. Certainly feels like it sometimes.

I reckon the online IQ tests are probably geared to make people feel better about themselves.

And look what's happened... even this thread has gone completely off-topic.

I think the chatbox idea is a good one. If the discussion in chatbox gets interesting, someone can start a thread about whatever was being discussed. Seems alright?

How about we make tech threads for tech only. Sale section - sale talk only etc

Ill make a sticky. 3 warnings then ban.

I can always use more reasons to ban people.

People can say what they want in the general section.

I find the internet tests vary too much. I've had anything from 149 down to 134. I did a "proper one" aka "offline one" when I was around 19 (my mum made me) and that came to around 147, so I don't really think they're that accurate in regards to how smart a person is, given I'm one of the dumbest kents around most of the time.

Legit offtopic whoring right here.

I'm beginning to see why FF and the like were "overmoderated". It's just because otherwise it'd be full of shitkents whoring all the time, like we're slowly getting here.

That's not the rumour I heard!

The off-topic garbage in the for sale threads is what shits me the most. That's what PMs and MSN are for. Pretty simple. And text speak.
Perhaps, in the interest of community service, the first warning to people for text speak would be a link to download Firefox? It's saved me more than once with spellink.

On another note, I just did this test: http://web.tickle.com/tests/uiqnew/ and got 138. However I have no idea what that means.
