Drifting the daily EA

So I was presented with the opportunity last Tuesday to attend a drift school at Tailem Bend motorsport park organised by Simon Michelmore however there was nothing in my garage that would have been suitable (BA GT aside) and therefore I was left with no other alternative than to throw some bits at the daily Falcon...
With 4 days to prepare the daily was as follows:
1990 EA Falcon GLi
3.9 MPFI L6
5-speed manual with what feels to be a heavy duty clutch of some description
2.5" cat-back 'zorst
Pedders SSL springs and shocks

With a couple of late nights work the EA pulled onto the Tailem bend straight for scrutineering now sporting a mini-spooled diff with 3.23 gears and a hydraulic handbrake.

The trusty old family barge caused a bit of confusion amongst the other participents, instructors and spectators as it did stand out against the sea of Japanese cars.

After a few laps of the track most were impressed at how well the relatively stock Aussie cooner handled the punishment of trying to keep up with it's imported counterparts.

The bug has bitten and I think the old EA is going to see the track quite a lot more in the future...

And did you just tee it Into the stock line?

Stewy's laurel is looking mint.

It's surprising how well you can actually slide these things. Dale did a track day a few years back in his and it surprised me. The problem is when trying to push them further to a competitive level as there really isn't any drift related "off the shelf" suspension components for these, such as knuckes, rack spacers etc.

Ebay special handbrake with a 0.7 master cylinder and yeah, just cut the line to the rear brakes, extended it into the cabin, made a couple of flares and hey presto a Falcon with a working handbrake

Pretty sure I was at the same track day in my GT..
You can buy swaybars and coilovers, after that you're pretty much on your own.

I'd be interested to know what the guys drifting BA-FG Falcons run up front to get more lock

I may be just having a retard moment but from what I understand these adapters allow the fitment of AU upper control arms to E-series front suspension to allow more caster somehow?

Yeah but it still won't give you lock like a modified Jap car. That and a piss weak chassis means you can never be competitive enough to win any awards. Oplese probably got the closest to drifting an eseries like a Jap car that I have seen.

However an ex saloon car and a twin cam turbo in the right hands might get somewhere!!

Brake line from the reservoir comes into the cabin and into the master cylinder on the hydro then back out of the hydro to the rear brakes.
When using the foot brake everything works as normal but pulling the hydro locks the rears like no under-dash cable crap I've ever seen. just cant use the hydro while on the foot brake.

Another E series drifter Sh*t yea! The E series are a surprisingly decent drift car as far as falcons go haha

Needs more power, more steering lock and stiffer suspension but you're right, they're not actually that bad for big old barge.
