Hi guys,

Reading this months Street Machine mag, they mentioned a new class in the Australian Pro Street Association, called True Street Blown. I know it's only 'true stret' by name, most of the cars wouldn't drive from Melbourne to Adelaide (pussies), but there's finally a drag class where E-Series wouldn't do half bad if built properly.

http://www.austprostassc.com.au/true_street_blown.shtml

1. FRAME / CHASSIS / SUSPENSION

1.1 All vehicles must retain original chassis. No movement of chassis rails permitted and no scalloping of front cross member for any reason. No fabricated traction components, i.e, ladder bars.

1.2 Mini tubs, chassis connectors pemitted.

1.3 Standard suspension may be altered, but must retain springs and shocks in factory positions. Bolt on traction devices such as slapper bars, caltracs, sway bays and fabricated control arms permitted No Bickel sway bars or any other welded sway bars or traction devices permitted.

1.4 Plastic or fibre glass flares permitted if originally offered from factory (eg Holden SLR) as an option. All other panels must be steel.

1.5 Hood scoops permitted but restricted to 6” in height measured from the top mouth of scoop in a downwards measurement to bonnet

1.6 No removable transmission tunnels

2. ENGINE

2.1 Dry sumps are not permitted

3. TRANSMISSION

3.1 Transbrakes are permitted

4. EXHAUSTS

4.1 TBA

5. WHEELS

5.1 Maximum wheel diameter 15 inch

6. TYRES

6.1 Maximum tyre sizes

* 275 x 60 x 15" - Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial or equivelent of another brand
* 28 x 11.5 x 15' - Mickey Thompson ET Street or equivelent of another brand

6.2 No slicks, Must be DOT approved tyres

6.3 Front tyres must match rear tyre as in "radial & radial" or "DOT cross ply & cross ply"

7. SUPERCHARGING / TURBOS / NITROUS

7.1 Centrifigal blower x 1 only with a maximum 4" compressor inlet tip to tip

7.2 Turbochargers 1 x 80mm or 2 x 62mm

7.3 Roots style blowers accepted 871 as a maximum

7.4 Nitrous All vehicles are limited to one single stage, big blocks must have no bigger than a -4 supply line.

7.5 4 and 6 cylinder only are allowed 2 x power adders
1 x 71mm turbocharger or 2 x 53.1mm turbochargers
Any form of nitrous injection including direct port, limited to singlefuel and nitrous solenoids.

7. FUEL

7.1 TBA

8. GENERAL

8.1 All vehicles must be fitted with fully operational street equipment i.e
headlights, indicators, wipers, charging and cooling systems and glass throughout

8.2 All vehicles be fitted with full street interior trim. Including front and rear seats, door trims etc.

9. SAFETY

9.1 All vehicles must comply with current ADRL & ANDRA safety regulations relative to performance of vehicle.

Now, reading that, an EA with a DOHC motor (same bottom end as stock), GT45 or twin GT35-sized turbos, nitrous, trans-braked Powerglide or C4/TH400 and 9" running on E85 would be eligible. Most of the other fast cars eligible for the category (apart from Commodores) run leaf springs, so they're at a dis-advantage traction wise. Even though they can fit Caltracs, many of them either would step up to modified street blown, or not be fast enough.

One thing people are seeking clarification on is what motors can go into what. If Capri's are allowed to run V8's, and Torana's Chev V8's, then it'll be another whitewash as always, but if it has to be an original style motor, there really could be a class that post-XD Falcons won't get raped in.

Now, someone do it :P lol

This would be the type of class i'd love to watch, maybe i'll build one for the next project :P

Nahh I like the sound of:

God, I gotta finish my POS first :(

Stack of mates and local friends of friends are stoked about this class being added.
But they also have 600+ HP well sorted cars capable of 8-10 sec passes already built :(
The size of the tyre does even it out tho. No use having a 600 cube 1000Hp street trim LJ with little tyres trying to drag.

Will be great to see more E-Series out there and being competitive in a suitable class.

If you cant mod the front cross member does that rule out cutting the K frame to fit a BA motor?

Hmmm, good point. Would it be possible to gain enough clearance by shifting the engine back an inch or so with different engine mounts, and grinding the sump away or something?
No scalloping of the crossmember stops OHC 6's into Cortinas, LS1's into lots of things, V8 Capris, rotors into Corollas, and many others I'm sure.

Tyre-limited classes are awesome. I've seen some Pro FX on OneHD last year, watching Doorslammers with small tyres take on Pro-Stockers and all-steel cars is epic.

Yeah an inch is all you need.

i have looked into this with my car, the smaller turbo would make it much better, should run sim numbers but at a slower top end, prob low 160's mph.
A friend's car is perfect for it and that runs 9.5 at the moment.

That sounds like a blue xr that is featured in that same street machine mag

Just a quick update on this, the first TSB meet was held at Willowbank a couple of months ago now, some fast cars out there.

Shane Baker in a TT 355 VH Commodore on 255/60 radials won the final, and had a best run of 9.65 @ 139mph.
Johnny Hyde in a 887rwhp VL Turbo lost the final and had a best run of 9.23 running street slicks, full exhaust and pump fuel.
Derek Logan in a WB ute with a 468BB and fogger nitrous system ran 9.6 @ 141mph on 275 radials.
Apparently most of the field is in the mid 9s.

So yeah, quicker than I thought for the first meet. I still think a well built E-Series could still be up there when it's sorted.
I just noticed too, TSB uses a pro-tree, and competitors have said it's already a race for the cars with slower spool to stage first so they can leave on full boost.

Why can't they stage while boosted ?
I do, I always wondered why ppl don't start spooling up till the light goes green. you will never win a race that way.
My car I can spool up while going into stage, so when the light goes green I am out of there ! ie proper race car.

Do you run a pro tree with a 900rwhp turbo 3 litre 6cyl though? I'd dare say if the VL rolled into stage with the brakes on to start spooling, either nothing would happen or it would light up/take off.

Once they trip the stage light, they've got under 4 seconds to stop the car, activate the transbrake and build enough boost to leave.

It's your thousandth post too :P

1000 cool. :) :drinks2:
yeah i run a pro tree, with about the same cubes / hp ratio.
mine takes a few seconds to spool as well, it's a 5 litre engine and runs 170 mph.

I can spool up all the way on the foot brakes, it just how you set the car up, some set it up just to run a number, some set it up to race.

In that case you'd be in with a real shot at it. This is the Capri yeah? Have/do you run radials on it?
It's mainly the VL driver that had the problem, he lost the final because of it. Though he could switch to a smaller turbo and run nitrous to overcome the problem.

It seems like engine choice is pretty free as well, there's a big block in a WB.

I hope they bring an event to Calder this year, they haven't got any listed.

nah the mustang, ( Haley's Comet ) turbo is too big for TSB. i am deciding whether to stay in MSB, or bring the turbo size down and go TSB as it is a std body.
We have been running APSA events at calder earlier this year.
Will be running more in November this year.

This is really exciting to hear. I'll be using an 80mm turbo on my 5.4 windsor shooting for 1000hp, 9 sec 1/4's full street trim

Like it has been mentioned this is perfect for most serious HP late model street cars to be competitive and possibly win. Can't wait to get my girl on the road
