Video of the camber gain. The whole assembly settled somewhat after a drive though so we will have to put some shims in and do this again after a quick drive to show it.

I can't watch videos on my phone :(
was there much difference when driving?
I forgot all about this.

We'll wait to pass judgement when we've shimmed it out so the camber is roughly the same as before

Did you guys shorten the top arm aswell or just flip the mounting points around?

just flipped the mounting points around. Shortening the top arm as well would get MASSIVE negative camber. If you wanted to get -6 degrees or something along those lines, it would work

i actually want to lengthen the upper arm in my EF... only because i can't use shims :P

You can't use shims because it then interferes with the airbag setup? I think you'd be better off making a jig around the factory arm, then making a new, longer, tubular upper arm if you were going to "lengthen" them, as that should be stronger than fully cutting and lengthening the original.

I was also thinking about it before, it might be a stupid idea, but to lower the stub axle and what not down, could you re drill the mounting holes for the top arm say a half an inch aswell as have the mounts on the arm flipped or would that cause to many issues?

You could do that, but would have to make a tubular upper arm, otherwise it wouldn't clear the spring.

That would be too hard would it.... Just abit of 5mm thick 50x50mm box section then abit of 3mm thick plate and it would be minty fresh, mind you I can't weld for shit though hahaha

So does it handle better/different?

Anyone with an AU, you can just flip the top mounts upside down. AU upper A arms are so much cooler than E-series ones :(

Did the flipping of the a arm make a noticeable difference?

The car it's in hasn't actually got rego, so it's only been driven a few times on an unreg permit. Once he gets off his ass and sort out rego we should have a better idea.

Im looking at putting a full superpro bush kit through the rear of my 97 none tickford el fairmont as well as 3.45 lsd in the near future. The car is my daily so going to get another set of arms to put the bushs into then swap it all in one weekend

I cant quiet make sence of all the info in this thread. Are ef and el xr diffs the same? And are el or ef arms the same or should i be getting the xr arms with the diff and if so are ef and el xr arms the same?

Any updates on this? I'm keen to know how it goes.

Is there much geometry difference between EF/L and AU upper arms? (Apart from extra caster)
I'm working with the machinist at work to come up with a way to adapt the AU upper arms for use on E-series.
We're also looking at a way to effectively lengthen the upper arm to remove the need for so many shims. It's not going to be adjustable, but we can have a base for a couple of different ride heights. (low, superlow, ultra low) As all cars are different, we will leave the need to use a couple of shims for fine adjustment.
The room we have will allow up to 10mm extra length in the upper arm.

The other benefit of the method we're using to lengthen the arms, is instead of using it to make the arms longer, it can be used to add or remove caster. I haven't worked out how much extra caster, I need to measure the distance between ball joint pivots on an AU upright and I don't have one.

How many people would be interested in using AU upper arms on an E-series?
I've got no idea on what this is going to cost yet, but I wouldn't think too much if I could do a run of say 5 pairs.

AU upper arms are airbag friendly :P

Just got some pricing back on doing 5 pairs. I can mix and match between each type if needed.

Standard adaptors - $55/pair
Offset adaptors (length or caster) - $75/pair

I need to get some samples made, some AU uppers, and try this out to be certain, but it's definitely looking like a real option to use AU uppers on E-series.

To clarify, the part that mounts to the body is as per factory?
changes you're proposing are at the ball joint end?

for that kind of $$ i'd be in 100%
possibly for a couple of sets to experiment.

Yep exactly.

When you say a couple of sets, do you mean both std length adaptors, or one pair of each type?

probably a pair of each type.
but i'd need to visualise what you're doing to confirm.

If you're swapping K-frames then no need for what I'm doing.
My adaptor is to use AU upper arms with the rest of the stuff remaining as E-series.

It's an easy way to gain clearance for airbags, an extra 3.5 degrees of caster, and easier to flip inner mounts to do what was detailed in this thread by SNR.

If you're after bigger brakes, or AU uprights, this will do nothing to help in that regard.

In case anyone watching this thread was waiting for me to finish these upper arm adaptors....
It seems I took too long, and someone else was working on it as well.

Head on over to this thread if you want to use AU uppers on your E-series.

Oh well, shit happens.
An opportunity down the drain, and mostly because I didn't think these things would even drum up enough interest for 5 sets... underestimation FTL.. haha.
