BA XR6T Drift Project swaybar setup

Postby bassy500 » December 27th, 2011, 12:08 pm

Im tryna make my xr6t into abit of a muck around fun drifter and im abit stuck on the swaybar setup issue.
The biggest swaybar you can buy for these cars is a 22mm aftermarket one. the stock ones are 18mm all ready and ive read the research behind not going bigger than 22mm as it causes oversteer but obviously im actually trying to create this not take it away.

Ive looked at the possibility of doubling up the stock swaybars but the room just really isnt there to do this.
Ive noticed theres a few guys on here with e series falcons that are being used for drifting. what did you guys do with the swaybar setup?

If your spring rates are high enough you don't really need a stiff sway bar.

Get coilovers, then get springs that are very stiff.

as above.

only thing people use thicker swaybars is there arent many stiff springs for falcons.
but coilover kits for ba-bf are more available than e series.

just find out what the pring rates are.
cheers josh.

Am I right in saying ba-bf wagon sway bars are bigger than sedan? Could use one of them in the front.

i think he is asking for the rear?

as the standard front one is 20-22mm and they make 27-30mm and rear they make 22mm and i thought 24mm

Thanks mr 4.0 but yeh not after the front only the rear swaybar.
Ive all ready got my eye on set of tein coilovers that i plan on purchasing in the new year. there spring rates in those are pretty spot on to what ill need in the falcon. im guessing 12kg fronts and 10kg rears will be pretty spot on for b series falcon.
The only thing is coilovers obviously consisting of better quality shocks and stiffer springs is there to improve ride quality and keep the car grounded and the main principle of the swaybar is to minimize the cars body roll

yeah but if u get a stiff spring it will stop bodyroll by more than just a swaybar.

but id get the biggest swaybar u can aswell.

Just get the biggest white line swaybars, and coilovers. A decent set on coilovers will set you back 1300$ the thing with B-Series is you can't have heaps of power. Any more than about 270-290rwkw will be loop city due to the torque. Slightly bigger cooler and tune would be more than enough to drift with making the car light as possible will help alot.

Pffttt.....the more power the better. If you spin it's cause you can't drive for shit.

As others have said, start with coilovers, 12 and 10 should be OK to start with, then get big swaybars front and rear - the car needs to be matched, and you want it to sit flat. If it has body roll it will tend to tank slap on transition and it'll be harder to hang onto.

Look at your car. Now back to mine. Now back to yours. Now back to mine. Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped buying dodgy cars and bought an ED, yours could be like mine. Look down. Back up. Where are you? ...You're on BoostedFalcon, reading the signature your signature could be like! Anything is possible when your car looks like my car... I'm on a computer.

thanks for all the advice guys, will be taking it all on board.
Ive gotta get myself a 6 speed aswell cuz the 5speed in it is not gonna take the bashing from sliding it for very long at all.
1300 for coils would be good as but yeh ive been doing research and got 3 choices, XYZ, pedders and teins and xyz and pedders just arent good enough from the reviews from people i read so teins at 2400 it has to be

I'd get the cheaper ones and spend the extra grand getting a few different sets of springs, the real advantage of coilovers is the motorsport diameter springs gives you nearly unlimited options when it comes to choosing rates. Are Xyz/Pedders rebuildable? I assume they are all height adjustable?

I doubt the teins are $1000 better than XYZ/Pedders, must jap stuff is just the brand you are paying for.

thats fair comment tufed and agreed i prob am paying abit for brand name with teins the only thing that put me off pedders and xyz was the amount of people all saying theyd blown not one but multiple shocks in the first year. That will shit me having to deal with that and i didnt read any buyer reviews of people getting pissed off with teins blowing shocks.

But yeh id much prefer to spend 1000 bucks less if i could lol

Ive spoken to guy from xr6t forums and hes suspension wholesaler. 2400 for non edfc and 2900 for edfc for teins
Yeh ill have a chat to xyz and ask that question and im gonna go visit pedders 2mz to ask that question aswell

Looked into HSD and on there site mentions nothing about falcons and i emailed a couple of sellers of HSD coilovers in australia and they said they didnt sell them for falcons. unless someone knows otherwise?

yeh spoke to one of the guys at cartel, was really helpful.
HSD do not make a coilover for falcons yet. Im almost thinking that it might even be better to just get a really good quality set of shocks and the springs at height and spring rate im after and lose the ability to control ride height and dampening
