Ha ha thats not a bad effort.
Pretty good for a stock engine.
A bit more power and it'd be good to see the Aussie Falcon linking some corners and making some more smoke with the Jap cats!

When the ute was first lowered we just lowered the spring platforms to get the desired height and found it was sitting on the bumpstops. Shorter shockers were found and these worked out great they have 5" of stroke and with the bumpstops fitted we had 2" of compression and 2" of droop. Testing showed higher spring rates were needed so 2.5 coils were cut from the pedders red springs and the spring platform raised back up to get the ride height back again. Shims at the rear of the upper control arm were moved to the front so no shims at the rear all shims placed at the front and the caster bolt only just has enough thread to have the nut screwed through. This gave 8 deg castor 2.75 deg camber and we ran 8 mm toe out

Seems as though a lot of thought has gone into the front end setup, that spring perch has been dropped a fair way too, is it still sitting there atm?

That's not really much work when you consider what many jap cars have done to the front end.

Is that 8mm total toe out or per side? Did you do anything with the castor rod to get the extra castor?

Yes standard tail shaft and it doesn't hit, the diff snout also has clearance.

To add to that
I find it hard to believe the diff snout and tail shaft don't hit the floor at the utes height I have seen plenty other cars not as low with battle scar's. Because of the light weigh of the rear, the heavey duty rear springs must not compress much at all.

I think about things a lot some times it takes more time to think about it than doing it. To modify something first you need to understand how it works and how you want it to work and what action is required to achieve this.

The spring perch has been raised each time the spring has been cut to get the ride height back. We also added 30mm wheel spacers all round this got the front tires to not touch the sway bar and chassis at full lock and it pumped the rear 195's out to fill the guards nicely. Last time the car was out it had 2.5 coils cut and I believe it still needs to be stiffer to control the transition so another half a coil will go. Anything bigger than 195 on a 7" rim has radial roll and tends to flick the tail back as the tire is unloaded.

Why run cut coils? Why not something proper? Wouldn't coil overs be a massive benefit over cut springs?

If I bought coil overs there would be the initial cost up front, yes. I would be prepared to pay than if I was to get years of service from them but in a drift car that is unlikely. So a modified stock part that you can get anywhere is going to keep repair costs to a minimum and keep the car on the track. Also I would have gone through 5 sets of different springs now. I have done this in a controlled methodical manner and the car has been tested each change. The springs are not loose because the spring perch has been raised so spring compressor's still need to be used to remove and refit. The whole idea behind this ute was to see how cheap I could set up the car for drift and to have fun. The cost of Motorsport puts most people off and keeps them off the track. Not everyone can afford a 700 hp skyline I'm just saying you don't need one. If you'd like build you car with coil overs and come sliding I will see you at the track.

this car still around?
it would be farkin sweet with a bf motor even standard off an ef ecu if you didnt wanna go through a loom and a flashed ecu (although by the looms of things that wouldn't be an issue lol)

after driving that track with my silvia dedicated drift car and thrashing my ute...everywhere except on a track but with tein coilovers up front and 12kg springs, stiff reset leafs out back, the xh is easier to drive hands down. much easier to control in transitions if you have good caster/camber. miss doing that s section onto the main straight at winton though, makes me moist seeing this **** do it in an xh... shattered you need to have a roll cage in any car that hits the track.

more **** should get on this shit, an xh with even half decent suspension and something like rollins au upper adapters, mint car to smash sideways, plenty of jap coilovers fit the front and can be used as shocks in the rear, mine came from an evo 5/6/7/fucknows, rears up front with the lower mount widened to fit the falcon lca and not difficult to make a mount for any eyelet style mount shocks to fit the rear, although even hd monroe shocks (which is what i have) are fine in the rear as the springs are so fuckin stiff with so little weight anyway.
sorry for the thread mine kents.
