Don't bother with the decomp plate, just use an AU multi-layered-steel gasket.

Try without a turbo first if you want to do it on the cheap.

Get a cam regrind done by wade (around $200) tell them you want it for lots of revs and they should be able to come up with something

Use an AU headgasket as suggested, get a J3 tune from TI Performance, and use the BBM manifold from an EL.

Get a good set of extractors and make up a nice short exhaust;

This should still give good results but won't eat up the cash that sorting all the piping/ecu/fuel system etc shit out that you'd need to do it turbo. If you want cheap turbo stuff buy a nissan or toyota motor that's factory turbo and use that.

Was just going to suggest starting with something a little less powerful, get the basics down first, then up the power.
i'd imagine a SOHC I6 in cortina isnt exactly going to be slow, get the car running N/A and get a feel for it, then turbo it.

if you try and do it cheap, then belt the crap out of it, something will fail and it'll cost you more in the long run.

cheaping out on things like turbo/fueling/tuning are whats going to cost you in the long run, especially if you're doing motorsports.

A shit turbo setup could prove to just be laggy and gay as **** for control. NA will be nice and responsive.

I used to own a streetstock sigma and it learnt me car control pretty well. I think you will be fine! Just need to transition from dirt to road (alot more speed and grip)!

at the end of the day, its your choice.
search some build around here, plenty have been done on the cheap.

many of us have done the whole cheap turbo setup, and over time have changed almost every part, and i'm talking street cars.
drift car will see plenty more punishment.
