Calder Drift Practice Day - July 27

Hey guys and Hus,

Went to the Calder Park drift day today, after seeing some absolute fucking fail flag marshalling, Pete and I volunteered to do it down at the end of the bowl from 12 til 5.

It wasn't really the best place for flag marshalling, as the drivers are looking 5m away from us at the track, but **** it was a good place for photos lol. We could have reached over and touched about a dozen cars if we didn't like our hands. Got a tad hairy when a car crashed through the plastic barriers and was coming toward us, luckily he wasn't going fast enough to hit us.

Pat/DISCNT, Bentley and Luke/YBYAVL were all out, all did a good job. Rustmaster Flex was showing battle scars by the end of the day.

3 cars I believe hit the wall hard near us, one car popped a tyre in front of us, which blew the side skirt, parts of the rear bar/fibreglass guard and tyre everywhere, including over us. We had a fair collection of fibreglass panels by the end of the day lol.

I've uploaded the decent pics here:

And the videos here:

lol @ the Mazda Bravo dual-cab drifting on LT tyres, was going pretty well until he spread about 48 tons of dirt onto the track, and clouted the wall a few times.
The JDM-R LS1Via was going nuts, as were the VX Clubsport, VX SS Ute, and a few other cars I forget now.

calder park is so fucking awesome...

45min drive and plenty of track time, ripple strips arent as brutal as winton and its slightly tighter which favours my car cos of the size and power of it... prob 1700kg with passenger and like 200kw at wheels

and also that sweeper in the bowl is fucking awesome!

When you went to A class in the dry you pulled that sweeper off pretty sick a couple of times.

I saw you had a GoPro in the car for a bit, got any footage of it? How rough are those bumps and troughs at the end of the last corner. Some cars were taking it so much better than others, like the JDM-R car wasn't unsettled by them at all, it barely moved his car. Other cars were getting thrown around, and one car (an S13 180 I think) had both rear wheels clear off the ground.

There were only a couple of cars that did well in both the dry and wet, the low powered cars including Luke did much better in the wet.

**** man, how do you sleep after a day like that Bentley? lol. I couldn't get to sleep last night, kept thinking about track cars and tubular Falcon wishbones.

It's fucked getting out of Calder in peak-hour friday night traffic lol.

I believe there's something happening on the 18th of August, however I have a feeling it's at Winton. Bentley knows the details. I'll more than likely head up and marshall if Pat or Bentley are heading up.

There's a couple vids being made of the Calder day at the moment, I'll post the links up once I get them.

drift drift drift.. Possible upcoming days!

Thunderdome adgp circuit, Friday night session, August 31st, just waiting confirmation on lighting to see if this is possible. Be from 4pm till 10pm be looking at $120 per driver capped to 60, what you guys think??

And Saturday October 6th, Full national circuit, unfortunatly weekends are a little expensive, will be $240 each capped to 80 drivers, but again spectators and passengers are free (so drivers perhaps charge ur passengers to bring your costs down??)

Let me know what you guys think...

the other august day aaron mentioned is winton and jus a prac day im not entered in it

Yeah it's a bit of a pain, facebook rapes my eyes with the amount of bullshit on there.
The practice day wasn't orgnaised by Calder, it was a private day by McQueen Motorsports, hence why it wasn't on the Calder website.

After saying that.... lol. Luke posted a vid of him passing Bentley in the wet, sideways.

Note the wheelwork, or lack of it. That's what castor does.
