My EF xr6 drift car .. THE TAXI

Hey guys names ben, Just thought i would throw up some pics and info on my Ef xr6 Daily/Drifter.

So this is how i bought the car. 5sp standard 3.45 LSD, JMM DEV5 cam and head, JMM extractors and lukey catback.
Image

First thing the taxi needed was a clutch as the original clutch had given up on life, so in went an exedy HD clutch
Image

Next Mods on the list were nolathane bushes for the whole car (only done rear to this day haven't got around to doing the front still) KAAZ 2 way LSD as the standard LSD was basically an open diff it was that flogged out haha and some 3.89 diff gears.
Image
Image

Now it was time to setup suspension/handling of the car, First thing was a nolathane camber kit, But insead of using the shims how they are intended and using them to correct camber, By stacking them all at the front of the upper control arm this will result in more negative camber and more caster. I got around 7 deg caster and about 1.9-2 deg neg camber.
Image

Next up i purchased a set of XYZ coilovers
Image

Now she was ready for her first track day ( my first time drifting a track too) In dec last year at winton raceway
Image
Image
Image

This was the last vicdrift event to be held without a CAMS approved roll cage being compulsory to run on the main track. I got a bolt in half cage made up so i can still put seats etc back in for street use
Image

My next drift event in the taxi wasn't until last month, which was held at winton again.

My xh xr6 5sp tow rig ;)
Image
Image
Image

I managed to escape the day with a minor fender bender after a 33 skyline decided to say gday to my rear quarter haha
Image

Here is some footage of the day including the crash haha and several popped tyres ;)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZoT-dE3Tr4
The next drift event i am going to is saturday the 17th of may at Calder park in Melbourne. I will post pics/update once thats done and dusted.
Long term plans for the car is to drift as much as i can this year n/a then at the end of the year i will be taking the car off the track for a while and putting a bf Barra turbo motor in. Any questions and what not shoot away, Love to see how many other E series drifters there are on here :)

Awesome stuff.

Might be worth looking at these AU Upper arm adapters which may be useful in your wheel alignment

Nice nice!
I'd do the upper arm mod. Bigger sway bars front and rear then see how you go.

Must be some forgiving rear tyres for it to drop 2nd and hit 3rd that easy on the spot?

Get rollins adaptors man they are ace

Thanks man and all the others for positive feedback :) No turbo yet but will be going barra turbo motor after this year.

I will be looking into the au control arm adapters but I may be putting ba kframe/front end in when I do the conversion, undecided on that just yet.

Do u have to have a roll cadge to do drift days? Even in the beginner classes?
Nice work can't wait to do something similar!

Yeah for any vicdrift event have to have a cams approved half cage minimum.

Vicdrift run deca beginner days they're the only ones no cage is required.

Also beginners section at winton which is a skid pad you don't need a cage. But yea anything on the main track you need a cams approved half cage at a minimum.

Cheers fellas :) I went through 8 brand new tyres for the day haha only had 1 passenger. No back seats with the cage in haha. Yea I always get funny looks off people when I say I drift my ef, they like "ahh bullshit that thing could drift " haha so many people don't realise that you don't need shit loads of power to drift. There's a bloke I know who drifts an el sedan, completely stock motor doesn't even have extractors just 3.89 diff gears and a spool, does 3rd around winton no worries at all :)

Holy fuckin shitballs batman! You pedal that thing like a pro! I love it!!!

As others have said, a set of AU upper arms will help - you'll have more caster than you know what to do with. 9.5* is about normal (road setup with sfa camber and pretty equal shimming), but stacking the arms as you have done would get as much caster as you could ever need.

Are you planning on swapping K frames because you want the AU offset and bigger brakes? I suppose a BA motor into an EF is a bit harder because you have to mod the K-frame too.

Calder was awesome fun! So much better to drift than i thought it would be. The taxi didn't miss a beat, only exception being the handbrake cable stretching so wasnt really doing any handbrake entries. Moved up from group c to b, so pretty stoked with that :)
Some video from the day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQfbjc8ysY4
Next event is Winter Matsuri at winton on 21st and 22nd of june. 2 Days of tyre smashing, Keen as all shit for that :)

And some photos. Sticker bombed my sunraysias for shits and gigs

Main reason for K frame swap is to avoid cutting my K frame or cutting the sump on the barra. But i think i might just cut the sump, and leave the original K frame in and get some of those adaptors for AU upper arms when i need more out of the car ;) haha Has anybody looked into getting more lock out of these front ends? Not much room to work with but curious if anybody has tried?

I will probably see you at Winton, I usually get to work all the events there...cos I told my boss I love cars. You have some good steering ability man, you do a pretty good job of it

I think you're better off cutting the k frame than the sump hey.

I think one or two people have fitted the rack spacers but I think you need to space the rims out a bit because they hit on the swaybar.

Better to cut the K-Frame because then it's easy to swap the engine if you pop one (you can just drop stuff in wrecker spec rather than buying new sump gasket etc.)

Nice driving mate. Car looks like it corners pretty flat, have you got coilovers all round or just in the front?
I took my daily EA out on the track a few days ago and she had more bodyroll than the biggest loser
