Dear Sponsors, Competitors, Teams, Crews and Drag Racing Fans,
Over the past 2 years the Australian Motorsport Club (AMC) has been working hard to bring Drag racing
back to Calder Park because of our belief in the importance of drag racing at all levels in Australia and the
need to bring it back to Melbourne as a regular feature. This has always been our intent.
We have invested substantial funds to upgrade our facilities, all of which has been undertaken without financial assistance from either Government or the private sector.
Whilst the cost has been significant it has been necessary to achieve a very important goal which is to have a dedicated Drag Strip that is faster and safer.
The results so far have been spectacular with many records broken and fantastic feedback from the True Blue Event! Many of you including drivers, crews and spectators have commented positively on the Drag strip and that the facilities at Calder Park have come a long way.
Works that have been undertaken to date include:
1) Concrete Launch Pad at the Start line
2) Concrete walls along the edge of the bitumen of both lanes
3) Improved Spectator Mounds around the start line and down the entire length of the drag strip; and
4) Work has commenced on a new 1000 square metre Function Centre (next to the dummy
grid) which will be used for events, functions and awards nights etc.
As part of our commitment to continuous improvement Paul Preston from our Adelaide Race Track prepares all Drag Racing events in Melbourne. Paul will continue to carry out this work in the future as we have every belief that he has the knowledge and skill required to do a fantastic job. All future drag racing events will be conducted to highest standards and in a professional manner.
Recently there has been plenty of speculation and discussion about Calder Park and what the future holds for the AMC. This has come about due to the recent action to put all planned motorsport events on hold. The reason for our decision is simple! Like any other business we need to reassess our priorities in the current environment. Our intention is to review the current business plan to ensure long term sustainability and to develop a 12 month calendar of events that meets your needs.
This will include ‘Legal off Street Drag Racing’ through to Category 1 Top Doorslammer events. With the substantial investments that have already been made at Calder Park and working with our dedicated in-house team in conjunction with you our loyal supporters our future success is assured.
We will succeed in making Victorian Drag Racing something to celebrate. We hope this makes our commitment clear.
Kind Regards
The Australian Motorsport Club

Opening late 2010.
I'll give you more information soon.

A full A Grade 1/8th at retail price is around $500,000 not including land price, timing gear etc etc. For an A Grade 1/8th we need 600 metres of straight land all up, for a 1/4 mile it will be approx 1030 metres long. This doesnt give you pits, spectators, carparking etc etc.
