who would have best chance of winning?

Postby blueoval » April 19th, 2009, 1:17 am

Can someone tell me point blank if its possible for the following:

My car running the specs as shown in sig with about 175rwkw but heaps of torque vs 2001 S15 Nissan 200sx 6 spd, pwr fmic, larger turbo, pulling about 190rwkw.

Who would have a better chance of winning in a drag, and if its the 200sx, what can I do to my car to better my chances?
cheers

The 200 will maul you, they're lighter and as you said it has more power, you might have a chance if he sucks at launching and changing gears though.

well i know he never revs his engine to redline before changing gears. He only revs to about 3000rpm in first for some reason and always short shifts. Due to this, I feel I may have a chance to about 80-100kph. Im I unrealistic?

yeah i dont know why, but he doesnt like revving the engine past that point. He thinks he gonna blow it up or something. I know those things can rev well past 5000rpm. For me, I rev mine to redline. This is why I think I may have him till about 100kph or so. He thinks he is king dick when it comes beating others in a traffic light duel. Id like to surprise him thats all. lol

well im not going to bet. This is only for our ego's sake haha. But it might wake him up to how his driving manner is. I keep telling him not to short shift and that will be better off revving it to redline. He always shifts just as the turbo starts to kick in. Its annoying to see, and eventually when he races others, he wins with out right speed. Which to me, anyone can do.

It will be interesting to see the outcome. His car has only been rebuilt 120km (not a typo) ago and he is flogging the guts out of it prior to the engine running in. Im expecting something to let go soon by the way he treats it. The engine was rebuilt back to stock specs so no extra goodies were added.

I have an lpg tank in the boot I need to get taken out, I'll do that prior to doing anything with him, as I know this is weighing me down for the holeshot. I'l also get the car retuned and see if the tuner can safely add some more timing.

i think it goes to like 6200rpm. but dont quote me on that.

my only chance of winning this little duel is to hope he is short shifting in first, second and possibly third. by the time he hits 4th, he tends to hold those gears to about 4-4500rpm. Still under its potential. By the time 5th and 6th come he is doing well over 140-160 kph and easily caught up by then. I'll end up backing off by 120kph.

yeah no worries. although i reckon my auto box tends to absorb way too much power. If you have a manual, you'll be better off. Plus mine is set to a very conservaive tune. with whatever kit u fit, you'll probably end up with more out the box

No idea = DON'T POST. a stock S15 makes full boost before 3k rpm. A B-Series makes full boost before 3000rpm, hell the 3540 on a B-Series is smaller than the T04Z that Rollin has, and he is on full boost before 3k rpm.... BTW, the S15 will smash you

If your mate is changing at 3000rpm you will absolutely walk him.

If he actually launches well, races properly and changes just after peak power you will get hosed.

Go to the track and run some times, side by side - that way not only do you get to race for longer, you get some time slips at the end as well.

As Rollin said if he drives like you said he does, and you can stall your auto up fairly well you should come out on top.

what gear ratio have you got on the s/c
if he isnt going to rev past 3k, his rwkw will be just above that of my gfs astra. from what i have seen on dyno charts for this engine, it makes most of its power between 4000 and 5600rpm.
mind you, her 1.8ltr n/a astra still does a 15.6 second quarter mile and revs to just under 7k.
my money is on the falcon, a s/c 4ltr is a lot more forgiving than a turbo ricer on roids in the hands of an amateur
with all that low end torque of the falcon a diff ratio of 3.45 should see you well infront.
although weight is well in his favour, he should have to rev past 5000 to beat your curve.
(assuming both engines dont have any other surprises.)

full boost does not mean full power, a na el xr6 stands a good chance against a Nissan 200sx below 3500rpm.....and im guessing a larger turbo will actually work against it down low in the revs
optimum times based on good run would be:
nissan 1284kg @ 190rwkw has a potential 13.25 second quarter mile. (80kg driver)
ford 1531kg @ 175rwkw has a potential 14.4 second quarters mile.(80kg driver)

krisisdog - I have a 64mm pulley on the s/c. I have been in his car many times, and have seen the way he drives. He never revs past about 4500rpm in any gear, and as said, takes off in first and only holds in first till about 3000rpm before shifting to second. My only chance at this is make sure I get im off the lights. His advantage is his car is heaps lighter. I'll have to stall it up well to avoid major not being killed from the start. Removing spare wheel and any dead weight is also in the plan.

In the end, it comes down to the competency of the driver. Those who are serious drag racers will know what needs to be done. My mate is just a bloke who thinks his car is king dingaling and relies too much on his mid range and higher gear selection to get him out of trouble.

Mate, I'm aware of full boost not equalling full power, as power is determined by torque and revs, but who said the S15 would be making full power at 3500rpm, because it wasn't me. All I said was full boost is achieved by then, and as we all SHOULD know, boost is more air, more air = more fuel, = MORE POWER

Man up and just race your mate already. If he's some kind of retard that buys a performance car (then spends money on mods) and wants to baby it for whatever lame reason, then you should beat him no worries - especially yours with S/C, I'd be getting some decent rubber (if you don't have some already) on the arse end.

Also his 200 with a larger turbo will probably have more lag. Once you get the jump on him (chances are he will **** the launch up by the sounds of his mad driving skills), he'll never have a chance...heck he never had his car :P

get a shift kitted auto with big stally and decent diff gears and u will smash it

as your car is now if he can drive he will kill you

in competion drag racing most races are won on reaction time due to the cars being very similar in power an d build.

oractise your reaction time and launche and ya might have a shot

I just put a turbo back exhaust on my ex's otherwise stock S15 tonight.....now it smokes the rear tyres the whole way through second

It's very fun :)

Look at your car. Now back to mine. Now back to yours. Now back to mine. Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped buying dodgy cars and bought an ED, yours could be like mine. Look down. Back up. my mate recently got the car off the defect list. He had to remove the turbo timer, and boost controller and go thru regency (the pits). Now he is only allowed to putt putt around with standard boost. lol

serves him right for being a tool in front of the cops.

Anyway, he basically now has a standard boost S15.

On the weekend at a set of lights, I had 4 people including myself in the car and he pulls up by himself beside me. We chat for a bit, then the lights go green. We anticipate the need to race, and we go. As I anticipated, he short shifts in 1st, and as he changes gears, I pull ahead revving mine to 5500, then he short changes to 3rd and that puts him further behind. I laugh with my mate in my car as weight disadvantaged taxi smokes him.

I know thats not necessarily a fair comparison, but it was funny at the time coz all he had was himself in his car. My car pulled like a freight train. Then I back off and he does the loser fly by.

His excuse to me was he didnt have his boost controller otherwise he would have smoked me. My excuse is, neither do I. Im still running on stock boost also and with a weight disadvantage, I still beat him.
cheers

Tell him to grow a pair and drive the thing hard.
Either that or he actually was, and is just claiming he's short shifting.
