converting el/ef seats to a EA / ED

THIS PAGE ISN'T DIAL UP FRIENDLY SORRY IF YOU ARE ON DIAL UP

my first do it ya self post :P

mounting el seats into a el 6 Seater.. has the same floor pan as a EB 5 seater. but same process i went though with my eb
.
first get a ea seat rail the one with the seat belt buckler. so if its L/H get the R/H seat rail. R/H get The L/H seat rail.

requires a 10mm socket. hax saw. 4in grinder with cutting/grinding disc.

Image

once remove the leg fit it to the car

Image
Image

also remove these 2 tabs off the el seat.

Image
Image

fit the seat in. bolt in all the bolts so it sits where it should.

Image

mark it up

Image
Image

clamp it together.

Image

weld the shit out of it.. but dont weld the clamp LAWLLL
if you can use a mig.. ark welds better for a heavy job. but you cant lay in enough heat to get a perfect ark weld. so a mig gas or gas less is better and easyer.

Image
Image

remove the excess over hang so it looks more standard. not modifyed.

Image
Image

clean the welds. i didnt as you cant see em. but if your fussy go nuts. then spray it.

Image

you'll find when you fit em.. it'll lean.. L/H leans to the left and R/H side leans to the right.. easy fix.. go to a wrecker and ask for the bottom seat belt spacer.
take it home and change it to this. or replace both legs. depending on how fussy. on my EB XR8 i replaced both legs it sit about the same angle. but i wanted the original covers back on so was needed to replace both. or just drill a hole and yer.. but i wanted to replace em both :P

Image

changes the angle from this

Image

to this still not perfect but much better. look at the sun visor for the angle differents ;)

Image

also you'll need the longer bolts as shown

Image

took me 3 hrs to do with chasing around my 3 kids at the time. then telling em to wonder off while i welded then to wonder back when i finished :P
roughly about 1hr per seat. with removing the bracket dummy fitting it marking it welding it bolting the seat back in.

if something needs more explaining or better picture gimme a yelp and i'll fix it up ;)

Pics not working for me...
Is it easier just cutting and welding in floor pans?

I am pulling the EL seats out and want to put them into my EB. I have to work out what size/type of tool is required to get the seats out. Only remaining thing left before I can get rid of the EL to scrap.

I was going to put el leather in the eb but instead i found cheap ba leather and put them in the ba.
and then put the ba xr seats in the eb, its a bolt in job just need two 50mm spacers and two longer bolts much easier than modding rails and all ya need to do is run a power wire to the fuse box.

I really want the BA XR6 seats and can get them for like $100 the pair. Maybe I will just keep the floorpan, and use the EB Fairmont seats (they are pretty decent) then retrim the car to the BA XR6 seats. Might have to go on a search for BA - EB seat pics. Do you have any pics of it? Removed entire wiring from EL, removed entire wiring from EB and fitted wiring from EL to EB, so an extra cable shouldn't be a problem =)

That would be awesome if you could. Dont want to go cutting floorpans to fit stock EL seats, as it's just more work, and my current EB fairmont seats are pretty decent already. Putting stock EL ones in there arent that much of an upgrade considering I can get BA XR6 front seats for $100 the pair if I shop.

Also I will be fitting the EL trims and dash, since I like the woodgrain scheme on these. But will the AU console be the way to go with this setup? Rather than the EL? I did a search, but maybe have to do more time searching...

Ill have a go swapping rails from the EL/EB seats and see how I go... be good if we could get the pics to work again. (imageshack.us)
I'll post some pics by Monday/Tuesday of my venture with doing them. Will have a crack at the BA XR seats in the next month or so.

This is in my eb i have only done the front seats and i will do the rear's when i put the leather in the rear of the ba
all ya do is unbolt eb seats and bolt in ba seats.
and i have the ba belt buckle pre tensioner still on the seats and the belt clips in properly.
i think it's a good mod it looks neat with a black au consol.

This i the driver seat ignore the dirt and crap in the car.

Image

Front left bolt hole, no mods just bolt in.

Image

front right no mods bolt in.

Image

Right rear no mods bolt in.

Image

left rear rail doesnt reach the floor, just pack up and use a longer bolt.

Image

cut white plug, red and black only. black need's to be earthed and red to the fuse box.
then your power seat will work.

Image

This is the packer i used unyill i put a ms tube in there

Thats wicked, I'll get rid of the EL seats then. Seems like a bit of work to modify compared to putting them in. I'll have to hunt for grey BA seats... don't think the XR's had grey interior? standard BA seats should do fine with AU console. The EL floorpan cutting isn't something I want to be adding onto my current workload of complete strip and refit EL to EB.

Will AU console go in with the EL dash? (Since Im putting in the EL dash)

You can just get some of the clip bits off 6-seater ef/el's and use them under the dash to cover up where the center console screwes into.

AU console will be fine with the EF/L dash, just look quite odd

why would you put an AU console in something with an EF/EL Dash..
just use the EF/EL one.

I need to get an idea on where I can cut and weld the floor pan. The EL is sitting there bare at the moment ready to go to scrap on Monday so hopefully I can do it before then. I guess I can just cut over the amount and then work it out later.

It would look pretty bad with an AU console on an EL dash though come to think of it since the EL one flows in with the console nicely.

Edit: I figure I just need to remove the centre piece of the floor pan on the EL. I'd say it would all work ok with the EB trans tunnel in there... it's just an additional piece on the EL, seems pretty straight forward. Need to drill the body at the left front passenger seat mounting so it can be bolted down, as the one in the EB is inwards more. Camera batteries have died so only got yesterdays pics which I dont think show the floorpan of the EL.

Well the floor pan wasn't really hard... it only accommodated handbrake mounting, console mounting and what seems like the same area where you packed up spacers for the BA seats. I'd say the BA seats might share the same mountings as the EL ones then?
