Show us your cooler/front bar thread!

Postby Malakai » January 4th, 2009, 6:01 pm

Along the lines of such classics as 'Show us your Engine bay thread!' post up pics of how you modified your front bar to take a cooler behind it.

I'll start... nothing revolutionary but it's a little bit of a different take on the obvious way of cutting a stock bar to take a cooler. It's also a work in progress, once the piping is made more cutting will be done to make room for the piping. Some of the reinforcing bar still needs to be trimmed on the left also.

I was at Rushworth speedway on saturday night, and there was a black ED XR with a BA XT bumper... I thought it was aftermarket until I had a close up look in the pits... It suited just as well as it does John's EF! :)

You're not.

I know they are like lepers around here, but would anyone have an photos of an AU with an intercooler fitted? Behind a stock front bar if possible? Just to see what I am up against later on down the track when I can get my hands on one.

Thanks for the find John! I do agree, that is a pretty rubbish attempt. If I end up doing a cooler, I want to try and mount the thing much higher than that, like right up between the headlights. I have a 'honeycomb' Ghia grille, and from what I can see there is plenty of room, and heaps of air flows through it. Mounting point would probably be the biggest problem.

i think a slightly narrower cooler would work well on an AU.
becuase you could get it up between the headlights.

That would be the plan. I have no idea if getting a smaller cooler would make much of a difference to efficiency, but its not as if I am going to have 11ty horsepower anyway!

i wouldn't be too concerned.
a majority of people who put turbo's on falcon's go and buy $150 ebay spec coolers.
they work but they're far from the best cooler on the market.
i think a 450x300 core would slot up pretty good on an AU.
added to the fact that you'd get air from both the open grill at the top, and the radiator opening, it should work pretty well.

most EA-EL owners end up having a total of about 40% cooler showing, and they still work effectively.
