Apoc has nailed it, itll hit a/c pipes.
Cold side isn't as bad as it bends into the bay earlier than on the hot side, so the light should require less of a trim.
Well that's the idea anyway, I'll know for sure this weekend

Anyone who has experience with gas research setups, would i be able to get a tuning rod and a j3 chip with a tune that would be roughly right for one of these to get the thing mobile asap? Like a basic tune, for stock el for something running anywhere from 6-10psi, i wouldnt be pushing the boots into her, just more to get it in and out of the garage and to the tuners etc etc?

Also not sure how easy it will be to change the tuning rod once the rottle body is permanately installed due to clearance to radiator, if everyone runs roughly the same size rod, i might as well throw it in now to hopefully prevent the hassle later.

hey mate, with my cooler i didnt modify the latch at all, my cooler is 300x600x120 and has a mounting bracket in the centre at the top which actually bolts straight to my latch bracket and the cooler fits flush with the bottom rad crossmember after some trimming. was just a lucky fit!

with the gas research gear, 10psi is fine on one converter. just hookup a wide band and monitor things, if it leans out you can grind down the metering rod yourself, the more you remove the more gas comes through.
pretty simple.

if its auto, 190rwkw will be about the limit on a single B2.
depending on the combo, 6-10psi could be anywhere from 160rwkw to well over 200rwkw :P

Can you still get metring rod sets from GRA direct?

on lpg with a mild setup using standard cam and head, 10psi should be fine with a single converter, but you're right, probly best off with 7psi at the start.

you can get metering rods off LTD351 on calais turbo, he sometimes has them on ebay but not always.

I wouldn't run anymore then 7-8psi on a stocker with a single converter.
10psi will easily out do it.

most flex lines are 10mm im pretty sure, but even high flow lockoffs are around 3mm at the smallest point if i remember correctly.
you could get away with two lockoffs at the tank and one 10mm line to the bay, but then needs to be split for 2 lockoffs in the bay and 2 converters lol.
the converters are exactly limited to 220rwkw but the risk of them freezing increases as the power increases past around 200rwkw.

Re: Daily ED wagon + leather + turbo

Postby EFFalcon » September 8th, 2012, 7:46 am

My setup was standard lockoff in the tank, single flex line to the engine bay, T-Piece into 2 lock offs, into 2 converters.

running the single lock off/converter maxed out 4000rpm when i was running 11psi ~225rwkw
Didnt have any flow issues with both converters operating.

Phat EL only had a single and was limited to 190rwkw before issues started occuring (on dyno)

I've seen a few people on XFalcon suggest a single lock off @ the tank and single line will only do upto ~250, more likely less.

the converters are spec'd at 300hp, or 220kw at the motor, given the typical losses thats well under 200rwkw :P
its a conservative rating but a good guide.

converters are cheap :)

Yer, ive spoken to the old gas research bloke who now works at 4b4 fabrications in carrum downs.

My setup will mirror your setup john, should see me out, after all it is just a daily driver.

He was suggesting the same thing, the risk off the convertor not holding up to the sustained high gas flow is a common problem, so best to be safe and run twin convertors.

Havent touched it since last weekend, too tired from back to back 16 hour days, bloody storms.

Postby AdamF » November 28th, 2012, 8:05 pm

So finally got a bit of motivation, by means of the gearbox in my other car looking like its about to give up :bye:

So with that ive taken the week of work and besides starting making up some cooler pipes a few months ago this is how the bay looked on sunday.
Image

So with that in mind ive made a far start in the best bit of four days, made exhaust manifold, made up water and oil lines, modified bonnet release, removed fuel tank and made up drop box for storage and battery, re-fitted inlet manifold with gas research throttle body, far bit still to do but should get it all finished by sunday.

Plans did change slightly with mounting the turbo as a low mount due to clearance issues, with the steam pipe and clearance to the water pipe that runs along the exhaust side of the motor, it would have required the turbo to be mounted in the shock tower.

Ill try to post up some shots in the next few days when it should start to look like a real car again

This was tuned today at 4bfabrications in carrum downs, made 177kW @9psi
Pretty happy with it, drives really well, having trouble with the vapor injector sticking but have a new one to swap it over.

yer not sure 100% why it seems a little low, but on the other hand i dont care, car drives great and is really smooth.

It was a 30deg day when it was tuned, so could have been suffering a bit of heat soak and a few other things, but no excusses, ill throw it on another dyno when someones having a dyno day.

blows tyres off it pretty easilly too :drinks2:

Do you think it's really that far off? I was thinking it would possibly make 200@ 10psi? Just going off what other gas cars have made?

Haven't been driving this much lately after buying a turbo bf ute, but gave it some love and its still fun :)
Probably looking at taking it to PCM and blowing a few sets on it, then probably sell it as a complete car so someone can transfer the setup to there own vehicle. Just checking if there would be any interest out there

Re: Ed wagon turbo leather for sale

Postby AdamF » May 24th, 2014, 3:38 pm

Going to sell this,
Will put up for sale thread tonight.
Here's some info I threw on Facebook.

FS Ed straight gas turbo wagon $2k. No reg no rwc. Would suit someone with e-series wagon or sedan that wants to turbo their car.
Has log manifold with gt3582r turbo, twin b2 convertors and s440 gas research throttle body, tuned at 9psi and makes 180rwkw through a stock auto. 450x300x75 cooler
Car has interior and electrics (full loom)from an nl fairlane. So el computer, electric windows, leather seats (rears not installed)
El 98 hybrid motor
El auto electronic shift kitted
LSD diff
Plenty more

Bad points:
Motor missing on back three cylinders
Needs a few studs for the turbo as I had to borrow a few for another car
Wheels are only to move it around.
Shifter button on gear selector requires replacement
Brakes are shot
Handbrake not connected since interior upgrade
Paint on car is average at best
