ILLF8D - EL Fairmont Ghia

Postby ILLF8D » February 2nd, 2008, 4:03 pm

Hello peoples...new to the forum. Here's my ride. Picked it up cheaply at the time, and have spent more on it than what I paid

When I first bought it...
Image

First batch of mods...with BA XR 18s
Image

And how it currently is today...with 19inch GTPs
Image

So far the mods are:

T5 conversion
Ultralows all round
Pedders Sports Ryders front and rear
Pacemakers, hi flow cat, 2.5inch, no rear muffler with twin dumps
19inch GTPs

Oh...and the plates (ILL-FATED if ya can't make it out hehe)

Image

I'm at a bit of a cross roads. My engine is stuffed so I need a new one. Haven't figured out what I should do just yet. I've been getting some prices on a rebuild as well as getting a 'good' second hand engine. I've blown a lot of money so far, so I'm tempted to do a V8 or a turbo conversion.

Would anyone happen to have a spare XR engine lying around that I could buy? :D Seriously!

Are they genuine BA XR8 rims? Or copies?

They were originals...I was using hub adapters. 3 were in brilliant nick, and the other had gutter some gutter rash. I picked them up with 2 good tyres and 2 bald ones for $600 total. Sold them with no tyres for $400. Only had them for about 3 months

Thanks pHat`eL. I saw your car there as well. You used to have different mags if I recall right, and then I saw ya there with the same rims and I was like...aww man hehehe...at least we're different colours :D

I can say one thing though, I'm sure yours would drive better than mine at the moment, I'm gonna need to set aside some time to check over the gearbox and engine. A pic session?! Sounds like a plan... ;)

Yeah there was a bit of damage on the rear passenger guard so I had that repaired and sprayed and whatever while also getting all guards lipped/rolled whatever for $450 all up. I had to coz the the 19s, but thankfully none of them scrape or anything. Yeah the ultralows are alright, just have to be careful when driving around town...rail crossings are virtually speed humps as well

Yours looked pretty low as well, not ultralows? Maybe it was too dark to see. As low as mine is, I've seen lower. It makes me...well...not jealous...but... :| well I can think of a word. But I'm happy with the height

Yeah I dunno. Ultralows front & rear...the 19s are 245/35/19. Oh actually yeah I snipped 1 coil off the rear to level it out, not sure if thats what made mine rub

Re: ILLF8D - EL Fairmont Ghia

Postby ILLF8D » March 31st, 2008, 1:00 pm

Thought I would make an update...

I have recently acquired the following items:

JMM Dev 5 cam
Reconditioned and unused EL XR6 T5 gearbox (for just $400) to replace my crap T5
Button Clutch
Billet Short throw Shifter

After considering the many options that were possible for my EL Ghia, I finally decided on a full engine rebuild. That way I could at least make sure that I was getting what I wanted and not purchasing a second hand motor with problems that I didn't need. All the above are being installed as we speak (I could do all of it myself but I thought why not get them to do it while the engine is out). Apparently I had a cracked piston, some valve damage as well as damage to the head where a previous owner did a shoddy job. I can't wait to have a new engine with much better compression than what I had loll

I'll be taking the car to a dyno when I get the chance to see what kind of power its putting out...my hope is to have it somewhere above 130rwkw...any more and it's a bonus I guess :D

Pics, specs and details to come in the coming days...stay tuned!

Id say with a Dev5 it will be more than that. I think Maxs EL Ghia had around the 150 mark with a Dev3 IIRC? and that was with an auto.

Bought it second hand off AFF. Umm...I do know that his car is an ED XR6 with an EL XR6 engine. His plates were IQUIK-6...and thats all I remember loll. But yeah, just got the cam itself without the rest of the package, but I've ordered that from JMM so that my mechanic can make all the adjustments and whatever else

and I got it for 300 dollars just quietly

Wow...if I could get around that mark I'd be absolutely over the moon...or look like this --->

sounds good man my old wheels look good on it lol.
and mine made 147rwkw with a dev5 with a wrecked map sensor wouldve easy been 150+ if it was running right so should make a bit more than 130rwkw.
cheers josh.
