thanks for that mate but tbh it dosent seem to be a issue, i was told by the mechanic that the bolts arnt holding and i checked them and its true but its pretty sealed! i could swap the motor but this ones a pretty clean engine. i am considering vapour injection as an alternative. i should also add i havent touched the ecu maybe it could be that but im sick of throwing money at useless bits to no avail. all the sensors, injectors, fuel pressure reg, list goes on :banghead:

If it was on gas you'd get 200ks to a tank or less lol
No matter what fuel you need to have a well sealed manifold.
Just get the bolt holes repaired.

with that broken ankle?

Quite honestly though, you need to sort it out. I see more economy from an old school v8.

Lol I changed the clutch in the festiva over a week ago. Did the bbm swap on the ute last night too.
I can put some weight on it. Only got a week til the cast comes off.

I left au injectors in the bbm I put in cand it certainly runs richer than it should so I'd change back to the older injectors if I was you dude.

An easy way to check the intake is to hook up a boost or vacuum gauge and check what it idles at.
Should be around 20in/hg

this weekend i did a few things to it, had the fuel tank cleaned, filled it up with shell v-power. did over 200 km over saturday and sunday as the weather was nice and it is showing that its near half way tank. so abit better on the fuel side of things was driving around mixed town and highway but i kept the revs at around 1500rpm no more but i was pretty happy with it, still have to do the intake manifold which i should get around to soon then plan to throw it on the dyno. anyway here is a quick pic :)

Image

also thinking about camming it, etheir a 977b or a 1521a. whats everyones thoughts on these 2 cams, differences, what i need to run them etc? :)

its duties as a daily are slowly coming to a end!

Alot of people get great results with the 977b but if you plan on getting it tuned, why not run the 1521a. I think wade recommend hd valve springs for both cams.

I found the 977b the best. The 1521a really wants port work and high comp.
The 977b os great down low as well as up top so you don't need to rev the tits off it.
Good job getting the fuel under control.
I'm chasing a similar issue with the xh. Only have to do the oxy sensor and replace the fuel pump and I've done everything to ensure it runs right. I even put an xr6 tune in without the xr6 reg so it should be putting in less fuel. Ill still only get around 500ks to a tank but glad its not as bad as yours haha.

Wonder why its better on fuel afyer a clean

definately getting it j3 chipped and tuned, heavy duty valve springs is no biggy just if i can run a 1521a with no issues id be happy

so would the 1521a run like crap if your engine wasnt port/polished?
i have the slightest feeling my engine isnt too happy when the revs are around 2500rpms. i am considering putting in a 270kpa fuel pressure reg, would it be too lean to run or should be fine? i was told it is fine although im still not too sure about it! 500ks to a tank sounds pretty good i wish i was getting those numbers haha

yeah changed it over for the 270kpa one it seems to rev quicker no pinging or anything just loses idle after you rev it drops to about 500 then jumps back to 850ish

howd you go with your fuel prob dude?

hey man ended up swapping the motor for a low km one (160,XXX) gave the motor a full service swapped the dizzy on my old motor as it was near new also got new 8.8mm leads, ngk sparkies and flushed oil put in penrite 15w50 and used a drift oil fiter runs smooth and has perfect oil pressure the only thing that i had to replace on it was the rocker gasket also got a new lukey cat back, new x-force 100cpi cat its really responsive and fuel efficiency has improved alot getting roughly 420km to a tank but i have been throttle happy with it lately! got a 977b with 110 lobes but after thinking over might end up porting the head and getting a 1521a. interior had a bit of a overhaul so ill put a update with photos up soon. planning on rebuilding the original motor for boost this year
