Cheers blokes. The gearbox should be ok I hope, especially as I had it rebuilt this year. The clutch on the other hand, if I can get till Feb with it will be an achievement! It's just a stock spec pbr. Also I think my uni's are already dead too! :P They were on the way out anyway, so I'm not surprised. Bloody loving it so far though, the power delivery is so linear! Not neck snapping or anything, but it just pulls so awesome. Well happy with how it turned out! :D

Thanks heaps guys, more than happy with it! Um, apoc, in a word, no. :P I took it to Pedders to get that $15 check, and they gave me a list of $1800 worth of bushes that need replacing! Apparently the diff bushes are worn, causing the tramp. I’m planning on taking it back to the guys at Dyno-mite to get them to check it out, won’t be till after the holidays though. Hopefully nothing goes bang before then!
The drive line is already clunking its arse off a hell of a lot more than previously! Are universal joints something that can be changed in my garage?
Josh, thanks again for swinging by after work Saturday mate, was great to have a hand with the injector change. I actually have one more pair of 15’s left, but I don’t think the clutch and/or T5 will be liking life cutting boosted hoops!
No plans to run it down the strip at this stage Parfrey. Last time I did that it cost me a gearbox rebuild. I want to get the rear end sorted first, plus I need a stronger clutch.
Everything is for sale at the right price Shaun, you want to make an offer? :P

No idea Dan, I'll have to jack it up and have a gander under there next I get the chance.

A few little teathing issues with this setup, I didn’t want to mention in fear of sounding like I’m whinging! :P First, it’s got a little flat spot at about 3000rpm now when getting up it. I was told this could be belt slip/stretch? Also, I noticed this morning that it spat some oil out through the dip stick tube! Asked Dion about this, and he said it could be because the bov is plumbed back and forcing pressure back through the motor. So I’ll try venting to atmosphere and blocking off the intake side, see how that goes.

Siiiick! I might even try and find out if there are stronger items available, fix it good and proper.

Also, it appears that the crankcase ventilation valve on AU V8's is a crap item and requires replacement. Thanks to Tim from Raptor for that advice! I'll add that to the shopping list also.

Thanks heaps Parfrey, I was actually wondering where it was located. :) Nah, it was actually the epic axle tramp that killed it! The one day I took it to Heathcote, was bouncing every time I launched it. Probably should have called it quits after the 8th attempt though! :banghead: Plus brakies in first killing stockies after that day didn't help either. 1st, 2nd and 5th were actually the most damaged, from what I was told. It's miles better now anyway. Just gotta fix the crazy driveline slap now.

You're spot on dude, it's not the uni's at all. I did some ringing around yesterday afternoon, and was told that all issues point to mounts and bushes. Dion actually mentioned after the road test that it feels like a dead engine mount, plus I still haven’t changed any of the rear end bushes. So looks like it’s going to have to go in somewhere for all that to be looked at now.

As for the oil, put a new pcv in last night so hopefully that helps my venting issue. Unfortunately I still have a flat spot in the mid range, but I think I have narrowed it down to belt. I fiddled with the tensioner pulley and it went away for a bit, but came back this morning. Anyone know where I can get a can of that belt grip stuff from? Still happy though, boosted problems FTW!!

New pcv fixed the oil issue, sweet as! Flat spot is still there though. Tried some belt grip, fixed it for like 5 minutes but it just came back. I've been told that the MAF could be cruddy causing this, so I bought some MAF cleaner and will give it a good blast on the weeked. Also had suggestion of simply re-flashing the tune into the ecu again, worth a shot.

I will be doing a full service tomorrow, if the rain isn't too epic. I was actually going to add a boost gauge to the shopping list, along with plugs and oil. What would be the best line to tap into for fully sick boost readings? I kinda don't want to double tap (hehe) the fuel pressure regulator, as thats used for the woosh valve! :P

Edit: Oh yeah, thats right, I was talking to a bloke at work today and he suggested that I should change the Oxy sensor on the exhaust too, as I may have fouled it by driving on the GOR with a generic rich tune. How hard are these to change?

Oxy sensors are pretty easy, just make sure exhaust is cold...otherwise it's good for some serious burns...I learned that the hard way lol. I am pretty sure the V8s have one each side also, not the cheapest or the most expensive item, but I think they are about $60ea (that's about what I paid at Burson's...but I get a discount)

Postby ClassicAU » December 12th, 2011, 7:01 am

Oxy sensors didn’t happen over the weekend, almost the only thing I didn’t do! Mainly because no place I went to had a matching pair, plus the cheapest price I got quoted was $116. Fraud wanted $480 or something ridiculous!! Plus, I was told its unlikely I fouled them anyway.
So I did an oil and filter change, new spark plugs, and drowned the MAF in contact cleaner. Also fixed the plastic pipe I broke coming from the carbon canister to the upper manifold. Unfortunately none of this made too much of a difference. It still hunts a bit when pulling up to the lights in neutral, and the flat spot at just over 3k is still there. However, it only does that when its warm, so I’m guessing it’s more a tune related issue.
Anyway, I’m dropping it back off with Dion at Dyno-mite tonight for the week. This was originally booked in to get new bushes in the rear and maybe an engine mount, but I’ll get them to check the whole thing over while it’s there.

That's the one bloke, picked up a brand newie from Dion when I got the initial generic tune. They are a lot bloody easier to use than the old Flash box thing I had years ago too! Thanks man, surprised the hell out of me! I almost fell over when I saw the graph up on the dyno screen, giggled like a bitch for like half an hour! :D I tell you what, it's going to feel awesome getting it back after driving my mates shitbox VR auto on lpg all week. Picked up the car last night from the boys at Dyno-mite, felt good to have some power again! The damage wasn’t as bad as I expected, which was a nice change. Only had to change both diff bushes and both engine mounts, and got away with the whole deal for just under a gorilla! :D
Probably won’t have a chance to take the car for a good spin till the weekend, but initial experience is positive. Driveline seems tighter, and Dion managed to get rid of most of the hunting issue at idle. Only thing is it’s still jerky under 1500 in traffic. Dion said that is due to the MAF and ECU not being designed for boost, so that is just a side effect of the kit. I guess there was always going to be something, and I am happy to put up with it. Other than that, I’m in love with this car all over again! Boost FTMFW!! :yahoo:

The next plan is I am actually going to look into getting an engineers cert. A mate of mine had an R31 Ti which he did a RB20DET and 5 speed conversion to, and that passed even with the shitty old stock brakes! So I would assume I shouldn’t have an issue getting one with a 12 year newer car, especially with my premo brakes.

Engineers is one thing Ev but to get it Emissions passed is another as your car is not boosted from factory.

Yeah, I did think about that Tristan, and it would be a huge and expensive effort for emissions. So I figured I’d just get an engineers cert on its own, at least that way I will not have to worry so much about driving it round. From what I have read, that would allow me to register the car with Vic Roads with the supercharger. Plus, I spoke to Shannons about insurance, and that is all they require for full coverage.

As john said most will not engineer with out a emissions test done, I was able to insure my EB with the turbo on it no problem with Just car at the time. Shannons are pretty good with modded cars but it depends on who you talk to, I've had some real wankers there.

There is an engineer near where is live and he was going to engineer one of the kingswoods that I did a gen3 conversion in and all he wanted was the brakes upgraded, and some of the wiring raised.

I must have a look at this beast of yours Ev, and the surging at 1500rpm is a common thing with those style chargers, you would have had a similar thing with the AU6.

I think John is right when he said luck, seems to be the way with this! I guess it does depend who I talk to, and even if I do get a cert it may not even make that much of a difference. The lady I spoke to at Shannons said they would insure me regardless, but I would need a cert in the case of an accident and only if the blower was deemed to have contributed to the cause of the accident.

I wouldn’t mind grabbing the details of the engineer you are talking about Tristan if thats cool? I have a few already, but wouldn’t mind having more options. For sure dude, like I said, would be cool to get someone who actually knows how to drive behind the wheel! :P Sucks I don’t live in Resa anymore, or else I could call past one night after work. I know it’s Christmas eve on Saturday, but I don’t have anything to do that day! :)

FULLY SICK!!!

I can't stop fvckin grinning when I drive this car! Still can't believe I got a win out of this, for now anyway. Knowing my luck I'm sure there is fail coming my way soon enough. Looks like the flat spot in the mid range is gone now though. I re-did the extention of the MAF loom plug with some thicker speaker wire I had and properly soldered the connections. Also rotated the MAF itself 90 degrees. Must have helped things, along with whatever touch up Dion did to the tune. He messed with the idle too, it now sounds like it's cammed up!
Anyway, I'm in love with this car all over again, the sound and rush in first and second is epic! I'm already even thinking about breaking my promise of running it down the track. I can't help but be curious of what it's got in it now.

I dunno what it is with the idle, just sounds cool now! Sits between 850 and 950 when it settles, and just sounds lumpy. He must have done it on purpose! :P

Yeah, haven't noticed any tramp yet, the thing has heaps of grip still. Just as well I guess, so I don't die!

I don’t have my heart set on racing it, just curious. If it does happen, my launch technique will be more clutch rape and less axle bounce! Much cheaper to replace the clutch than rebuild the gearbox, again. Wouldn’t happen anyway, if/when the T5 does let go again, it will be replaced. With what, I guess will depend on availability of hardware and cash at the time. Thinking a TKO would be more than enough though.

I’ll definitely hunt around first before I commit. I don’t want/need to change anything yet anyway, early days still but everything is holding up fine so far. The motor has not gotten above normal operating temp once at all, even after a decent flogging. Gearbox still feels good, and even the clutch hasn’t slipped yet!
Thanks heaps man, I love the different exhaust note now, sounds much rippier if that is even a thing! :P I was tempted to lay a couple of lines last night, but figured your neighbours wouldn’t appreciate it!
