definately do it, also fit bonnet bulge and a stripe kit, and a GT spoiler but don't put on a FPV kit, and tint your windows but get the cool two tone tints with like shapes and shit in them, also don't ever lower it.
colour code everything in the engine bay as well, and add fake braided covers to all hoses.

So the motor is 100% without-a-doubt fucked? Why not just flush it out & give it fresh spark plugs & see what it's like from there?

Timing Chain is rattling like a mofo on cold starts and dies down a little when driving for about 20 mins,Ford said it would cost over$1000 for that to be raplaced/whatever the **** else they do, My local mechanic said it cant do it for much cheaper either. its miss's when cold too and stops once its been drivin for about 20 mins, + Anything else that could be wrong with it. If i put a new engine in, i will change plugs/coils/oil/fluids and clean the injectors. and pretty much start fresh, the only time i would really drive it is on weekends so its not gonna do as many k's.

Dan, i got no idea on how to do a compression test.

Missing when cold can be a spark plug thing. Mine had a WRX startup until I replaced the plugs. The electrodes were miniscule and looked like fossilised penicillin.

Compression test - get BentLS1 to do one? Basically stick the gauge in a spark plug hole, (hand)crank engine to get reading. Repeat for each cylinder if you're really keen.

Timing chain - chain itself is stretched or are the guides flogged? Can B-Series timing covers be removed? (I've never looked at one)

I replaced the Spark plugs with iriduim(spelling?) plugs back in may, so they should be fine unless i got a shit batch a fuel and there fucked.

With the timing chain either way its gonna be alot of $$$

honestly man, i reckon a days work on your engine would get it going as good as a NOS one. and it'd save you the hassle of taking one out, selling it, buying a new one, transporting the new one, putting it in, tuning it ect.
