An im aware of the j3 chip and how it all works etc. plus doing every thing else for the converion. i did it with the 7. i got plenty of knowlege with turbo & injected cars & setups. But as mentioned. i know the engines in stock form. and all the normal shit. but when modifying the engine its self. ill need to know what to use & whats good for my set up. but ill get more into all this when i do a build thread to kick of the project!

Its currently tuned with the new microtech & external gate but only on spring boost atm 1 bar 14psi so made same power. But gettin new gate springs from Paul at JPC & going back to chris for a retune on on 17-18psi on BP 98. Will have around the 220-230kw mark with . & as you mentioned with power to weight, ill hopefully reel out an 11. thats been my all time goal so will hopefully get to run it in the new year once its re tuned. then it hits the internet etc for sale! its a very quick street car. went great befor & now but im looking forward to another 30 odd kw. will make it that extra bit crazy on boost through the gears

Cheers. Paul

lol 187 Power to wieght showed its benefits. I think I had around 220 at the nats then. Was a good race. Best time its ran in full street trim was 13.7 with about 230 at the wheels.

lol Yeah, rotaries are like that. lol years ago in complete street trim, the old man ran an 11.5 - 1.7 60ft on street tyres with 220kw in his thing. stock motor & highflow turbo lol. but it is no secret there potential to be fast cars. but there not every thing, nor for every one. but nothing like punishing people on the street with much less power etc when they ask you farrkk that flies how much boost an power. you say 13-14psi an 190kw they go oh :( so i say yeah i done a mid 12 second pass in it, make em feel worse.. most turn of an say nothing after a race. but the enthusiasts slow up an ask about it etc.

Any way, one thing that im looking forward to is some good torque aswell as the boost factor.. cause rotarys lack there. forget going up a hill in 4th or something. or even 3rd over like 70 you can lol but 3-4,000 rpm. they need revs to be efficient up hills lol.. not boost, just rpm

Thanks mate :) yeahh im highly considering it "ill do it" lol. Although i may just paint my spare fairlane ghia bonnet "that has the emblem already on it" so i can keep my original. as every thing from stock that i have changed, i have kept. Just so i could make it 100% stock if i had to. or when i sell it eventually it could be handy. Also Once apon a time i was considering doing a ba or fg metal bonnet bulge (reason for the spare bonnet), but i think its been a little over done.. so i dont thing ill do it.

What do all think of exterior window weather shields? cut down to be more slim line, & tinted like the windows to blend in? just another idea on my mind. :good:

My 4Runner has them and they are great in the rain, you can hav the window down abit to get fresh air an not get wet, and my parentss XR8 had them when they brought it, they are the smaller ones though, like only 3 inches long from where they attach on the window

Yeah slim ones thats what im after. i think they will look stylin  tinted that is, plus as you said they have there purpose! would be mad to get rear window ones too.. maybe ill do some measuring see what i can find.

the 300c;s etc at work look pretty wild with all 4 slim and tinted.

Hmm many plans for the new year, where to start :banghead:

Probably better to start with things like trans cooler, shift kit and support parts for driveline to held it survive being turboed

Yeah ;) these little things are just little side quest's, i cant leave things alone lol, But once i sell my rx7 in the new year. as mentioned ill be using an amount to buy every thing i need. i dont and wont build a piece of shit. ill do all things i have mentioned or in mind to make it a reliable/well functioning set up! not some budget slapper build. If anything i may have some over kill for possible future plans "if i want to go further" or even it it stays a low booster. nothing quick but fun + reliable. i have no intention of building some spastic streeter & to go fast dont the 1/4 in it etc. or id keep my current car. an throw more money at it. but its been a long & thought out process, to sell & move to this project & i have the most important thing covered, and thats its application (what Im building it for.) & with that in mind, ill make it happen and hopefully end up with what i was wanting.

we'll see what the new year brings :drinks2:

Postby IDORI » January 12th, 2010, 7:58 pm

kingsleyel - nice list there. umm the wheels i got a decent deal. i got them second hand but vgc.

A question to every one here who has had or still running na, & running say extractors & good cat + 2.5 inch redback etc. notice your economy around town increase over stock?

Reason i ask is because all though im selling my other car etc. i may start doing a few things first, then do the rest once im ready.

So ill start off doing my exhaust system. then the auto (transcooler + shiftkit etc) an id like to get a LSD center with spedo gear to keep spedo calibration etc. an a few other bits an pieces.

Then eventually work on all the turbo bits. im just prioritising atm & working out how and what i wanna do etc

Any info on the exhausts would be good. what are the 2.5 single muffler systems like with under load etc? as i take my baby boy in my car aslo. and i dont want it to be a droning piece of shit!

Im After a nice note. & nice new tip's

already priced it up. and ill fit it all my self.

Prices ar $200 for exhaust & 65 for my twin tip. thats for 2.5 redback, 1 muffler & straight tail pipe, all mandrel. Tip will be a twin chrome, 45degree cut, both straight runners, non offset for bumper. & rolled end chrome. outlets are 2 - 1/4 or 2.5" so it should fill the bumper hole nice.

The headers & a HF cat im yet to price up.

exhaust is a tuff one, cause your going to pulling it out soon anyway, probly best to try and go for a 3" straight up, but that will be a bit doughy down low.

the 2.5" systems sound good man, as long as the muffler isnt tiny and you still have your cat ( ) then it will be ok.
mine has a single muffler and a single resonator, but its loud cause its a high flow magnaflow muffler and i have no cat lol.
Jaycar sell a speedo correction unit also, so that might be a bit easier.

your economy shouldn't change much if you get extractors that are more suited to low down torque.

Postby IDORI » January 13th, 2010, 11:55 am

thanks bill, the performance part i dont care about what so ever. what ever it does is a bonus to economy etc (ideally better eco is a huge plus) . i just want the exhaust to add to the quality of the car, give it a note & look of new tips etc. extractors are always re-sellable. (will buy a good set) & from experience. low to mild boosted cars. with a good muffler a 2.5 inch is sufficient, an keeps the noise down a touch while maintaining good flow. so im gonna go with this in a few weeks forsure.

as for the headers, ill see when i do them as id be interested in pricing hpc or jet hot coating. this time around im building a car diffrent. im happy to wait longer. in order to get what i want & the best things for what i need etc

will be interesting .

Cheers.

well the better news is i have kept my ford, it didnt sell. i sold off my caprice & and now back to the good my old fordie mobile,

unfortuantly, it no longer has its agents.. but not for long

so my plans are to put it back on a set of gunemtal darkagents only this time in 20's & ultras in the rear.
