So yesterday afternoon I bought a locker with 3.54 gears (I desperately wanted 4.11's, but I can always change the gears at another stage), and later that evening I was happily skipping around corners.

This will be the last update for the car until after March next year, I'm going overseas for 3 months to play in a band on a cruise ship in the Caribbean on Saturday and will come back with full pockets (theoretically), so there should be a fair few updates shortly after.

Do the vans run 4.11's? If so i have a complete drum to drum van diff at my folks place with sedan springs...

Hey mate, sorry about the super late reply, I've been overseas for 3 months. Yep vans have 4.11s. I might be interested in looking at it sometime if you've still got it.

In other news, the car is off the road again, something in the gearbox/clutch region is making a wicked noise so I'm taking this opportunity to put an adjustable pedal box in to ditch the booster and master cylinder in the engine bay, my brakes will then actually work, and as an added bonus the engine bay will look better. This is how it sits right now...last photos before I started pulling it apart today.

I might look at throwing the Mallory in this time too, I'm over points.

Thats awesome. Brings a tear to my eye thinking of my brothers original neat MkII RS2000 that was killed with an engine fire.... I wouldn't mind picking one of them up though I'd imagine they are getting dear these days.

Thanks man, I've noticed that with a car like this I hear lots of stories about people who have either owned one in the past or they've had mates or relatives who have had one, and there are some pretty insane stories haha. You probably couldn't find a genuine MK2 RS2000 for less that $10,000 if they're a good example...sucks because they're only getting more expensive just like everything else and I want to get a 2 door and put some EFI turbo goodness in, South London style with a gutted interior and all that stuff. Guess I better keep dreaming

-edit- ..And MK1 RS2000's are generally over $50,000! That's a lot of money to spend on a slow car. But I suppose people don't buy them for that, it's usually the proper old style enthusiasts and collectors that buy them.

Yeh I would love a MkII RS2000 powered by a cosworth... I remember my brother paying $1000 for his from an elderly couple who had it sitting out the back because it belonged to their son who went on holiday to the UK and decided not to come back. It was an awesome buy but unfortunately had a tragic end... They love a burnout though!

Pedal box and resevoirs are mounted up now with the bias set to about 60/40 to start with, just have to get some more fittings for the brake lines, then once the lines are run the motor can go back in and then it's "testing" time, which really translates to skid time.

Good stuff! I hope you were careful of nitrous leaks, you don't want the car to blow up before it is finished.

I pulled the pedal box back out because the brake pedal was sitting mighty high, I thought I'd have to get some modifications to the master cylinder pushrods to drop the height down, but then realised that I hadn't put the brake light sensor in which ended up pushing the pedal down a fair bit, so all is good there.

Basically I've taken my sweet arse time putting the car back together, but having realised tonight that the daily driver doesn't even spin 2nd in the wet, I now have motivation to get things happening again. So once I got home I immediately started mocking up the pedal box to take measurements for lines and to make sure the pedal height is correct.

And eventually the carbies will be making way for some of this 75mm t/b goodness + some GT28RS goodness + some Microtech LT8S goodness.

And they're still further apart than the standard pedals!

Yeah there's a bit more room between them than the picture shows, the funny angle and poor lighting make it look odd. Oh also the clutch cable isn't attached so that pedal just hangs there at the moment.

I can't wait to not have to bring the nx out on Thursday nights.

Another thing I couldn't resist...I ordered a quick rack just now, should turn up in a couple of days. 2.4 turns from lock to lock.

The standard one was starting to get a bit leaky, and it was in need of a bit of TLC, so I thought fark it just get a good one.

I'm taking the day off work on Monday so I can get brake lines run and put the quick rack in and put the flywheel and clutch back on the motor, so I should be set for a mammoth Friday afternoon/night next week of putting the motor back in and getting it running decent. Then wheel alignment on Saturday and I'll try and get a dyno tune the week after that.

Right so I picked up the manifold yesterday, looks alright, just needs a good cleanup and some black paint mostly.
Image

And I finally got the quick rack in, so I've got 1.2 turns from centre to lock, plus it's got more lock than the standard, so now I don't need a full postcode to do a uturn. Don't know if the tyre hits, but once I get the nose cone back on I guess I'll find out.

I sold the car on Thursday morning to a fella in Newcastle. I wish I could keep the car but it's time to move on and get something a bit more practical haha. The car doesn't head down to Newcastle until mid to late August. Anyway that's my story!
