Need plugs and coils, so I just bought a momo chunky steering wheel off ebay! Frivolous spontaneous spending FTW!!

So my new steering wheel arrived in record time! Bayford Parts on eBay, A++ will buy again! Looks the goods too, should go well with the rest of the interior. Hoping to swap it out tomorrow, just have to go by a steering wheel puller. I remember seeing one at Total Tools or something. Anyway, while I’m out, I want to swing past and see my mate Allan at Blitz Custom Exhaust, and see if he has some pipe to go from the tb to the airbox. Does anyone know what the best size I should ask for? I forgot to ask John the other night, I think he said it was Steve with the 3V Fairlane had it too?

Thanks heaps John. Hopefully I can pick up a couple of silicon bits to suit from good old Supercheap! Also that Allan doesn’t convince me to let him do an exhaust for it too!

New steering wheel installed. Feels and looks so much better than the standard item. Busted a cheap steering wheel puller thing in the process, ended up just bashing the old one off with a rubber mallet! Oh, and please excuse the filth, front yard is crushed rock.

Also went through my second tank of fuel since I bought it, and first one since zeroing the trip. Managed 410kms to the fuel light, with 40kms on the dte. Pretty average, but I'm not worried. Still took me two weeks to clock up those ks! Oh, and my zorst bloke was closed yesterday, but I think I've given up on the intake pipe idea already anyway. Cbf. Plus this thing runs brilliant to me as it is! :D

You shouldn't have needed a steering wheel puller.
Just undo the thread half way and wiggle side to side whilst pulling.

Eh, got the thing off in the end, Jeremy Clarkson style! That puller thing was a massive pos anyway, I couldn’t figure out how to use it properly. At least it was only 15 bux, Total Tools sale FTW! Had to buy a giant allen key for the torx bolt too, the bits I had were only five not hex head. Oh, thanks for doing that info thing on the vin btw to Danny! :drinks2:

Those steering wheels are amazing value. I'm on to my 2nd. They are genuine centres / guts with non-genuine everything else.

And lol at steering puller, shouldn't need one on any late-ish model Falcon.

I know right!! Got it for $220 delivered off the Bayford eBay store. Feels like pretty good quality to me, just as good as the momo one’s on the AU’s. You are correct about the puller too, didn’t need it in the end.

Anyway, booked it in to get the remains of my stereo gear installed next week, plus a set of Orion splits and coaxes and a four channel amp. Should sound heaps better than the shitty stock crap.

I'd already heard too many stories of broken faces when removing a steering wheel hulk style, so I went the safer option! Worked a treat, only needed a couple of love taps to loosen it enough to take off. Still love this new one! I know it shouldn't, but to me it makes driving the car feel better! Whatever, small things, as they say. :P

I had a bad thought yesterday, and almost picked up the phone to call Dion at Dyno-Mite!! My justification was improved fuel economy, but really I just want to see what he could get out of it power wise in stock form. Probably as wasted effort really. Haha

Riiiiiiiiiiiight..................

Anyway, got my stereo installed last week. Not exactly thrilled with the quality of work, but on the plus side it sounds epic! Ended up getting a set of Hertz splits and Orion 5x7's on the shelf, running off an Audison amp, to go with the other stuff I pulled out of the AU. As you can see, the HU is inaccessible while the car is in park, but whatever, I rarely use it parked anyway. Looks a lot better than people were suggesting it would have in my opinion. End result is, I have my tunes back, happy about that!
Also received a new set of aftermarket spark plugs, thanks to Paul at CVE!! :good: So next job will be to book it in at my local Ford dealer to get them swapped out, and while its there I'll get them to fit and wire up the spot lights as well.

One of the guys at my old work was a steriod-fed gym junkie and he was having a bit of trouble with a vectra steering wheel.

It was stuck on there so tight that he actually pulled the RIM off the center once the rage kicked in

Up your arse Danny!! :P Thanks for the comments blokes, but no dumpage, sorry. The super low profile tyres have already ruined the ride a bit. Plus, as you can see, the bottom of my front bar is already screwed, any lower and I won't be able to go anywhere!

Oh, and thanks for the offer Paul! As awesomely funny as that would be, it's not happening. Would make for a sweet as sleeper though!

lol, no worries dude, i know. I'm just not interested in fucken with this car mechanically. I actually think it looks good as it is, I feel like its done now, no need to change anything else. Well, other than getting the spotties put back in and wired up, but thats it. It rides great, handles ok, and most of all is smooth as silk compared to every other car I've owned. I might get it polished soon, just to try and preserve the paint now that it lives it life outside. Unfortunately any chance I had of getting garage time was gone the day my housemate took delivery of his brand new FG2 XR6 EcoLPI. That's a sick car btw, he got it in Petrolium, looks mint in the sun. Fucken flies for a 6 too!

So not too much to report on this bad boy of late. Loving having my stereo back, fully sick bass u'le! Booked it in at my local Fraud dealer to get the spark plugs changed out, cos no one else wants the damn job! Going to cost me $350, which includes a courtesy car, but doesn't include the cost of drilling out a plug when one inevitably busts! Hopefully the come out ok, but I'm not holding my breath.
Other than that, there may be one or more forced developments with this. I have just started a new job (yes, again!) which is soon going to require me to drive to work as there will be some inner city travel involved. My office is based in Port Melbourne, and I drove to work one day earlier this week, and managed to dispatch almost a quarter of a tank in stop start on the westgate! Seems this thing DRINKS fuel in traffic, almost as bad as the Red Baron! So I am not sure how I am going to go with this? So far the options I have thought about are as follows; suck it up and deal with the fact I bought another V8, get a custom flash tune with bias towards economy, put it on lpg vapor injection, or flog it and buy a 6 already on gas. Thoughts? Other suggestions? Btw, this is not another whinge session, just ideas gathering. :)

LOL :drinks2:

All v8s drink fuel in traffic! Is the tune cheap? maybe try that my ls1 did well from a tune in traffic but was still around 15ltrs. LPG seems like a costly exercise considering you probably wont keep the car for a long time based on all your other cars havent lasted long so your outlay cost will be greater then your savings.

If economy is really that important you shoulda got a 6 on gas like you planned. Or get a corolla and be done with it! Even a good tune what itll use 14ltr? theres not a big dollar difference between 13, 14, 16ltrs its just a number in the end it still costs roughly 100 bucks to fill almost any xr6t, v8, ls1, any of those shit cars a week. All the cars you are buying short of those shit petrol 4wds are the worst possible economy cars around.

You gotta get used to the fact all these cars fucking use petrol... if your not gonna keep it flog it off and buy something on gas...

Or if you plan to keep it for a few years (which i really doubt you will) convert it to gas.

Or do what i do, ride your fucking pushie to work get fit and its free!

I know, I just thought this would be a little better being a newer motor and 6 speed, but eh. This is why my number one option is suck it up! At the moment I am PT-ing it in and walking from the station, which is heaps cheaper and fine for me. However I am going to be using my car for work once I am established, as I will have to go out to the other clients we look after. Which means I will be compensated for travel, but to what extent I have no idea, thought I can't imagine it would be much. I didn't know this was going to be happening when I bought the car, or else I would have bought a 6 on gas instead. So I was just looking to make the best of what I have, as I do love this car and would prefer not to flog it like all the others. Although I did have the last one for just shy of two years, which is an achievement for me lately! So that's why I thought an svi system would be good. I will speak to Dion over at Dyno-mite first though, and see how much of a different he thinks a tune would make. Like you said though, will most likely be minimal at best. Pretty sure he charges $700 at the most for a full custom NA tune.

Your laughing if they reimburse you last time i used to get reimbursed for driving it was 85 cents a km! Even with the v8 i was still making money driving to sites used to be sweet end of the month just end up with a 500-600 dollar cheque loved it.

Get a tune anyway if you keep it 2 yrs its worth it no idea what the fords are like but an ls1 without a tune is a pig of a thing

Gees, sounds like I could be ok then just off work reimbursements! The fuel bill would be around $500 a month at the moment, so if I can get it back I'll be sweet!

Pretty sure I can get a tune thrown in the car without having to buy the actual device right? Not like I would want to change it anyway, its a better tune than stock! I might end up getting a tune anyway, because powah!!

No, Hus, you lose! I'm not complaining, nor have I thrashed this car (yet, because lets face it, I'm me) so ha! :P

If PT is an option you would be crazy to drive to work. I get annoyed if I have to drive to work. People on the road piss me off and so I arrive at work already in a bad mood.

Plus PT lets you save heaps of cash and be able to get fall down drunk after work, win.

Even better than a pushy - tho riding home drunk can be pretty fkn funny.

PT is only an option for the next couple of weeks at the most. As like I said, after that I will be needing to drive out to other client sites during the week. Of course I would use PT if I could, it's half the cost, and I can watch movies on the way to work! I will be stretching it as far as I can, but eventually I will be forced to drive.

Anyway, I will look at hopefully getting a tune in before the holidays. Although my booking for the plugs change isn't till the 5th of next month, as thats the earliest I can get a courtesy car. So no point tuning till after then. Does anyone know if I should bother looking at getting new coils as well, or just replace as they start to die?

Last time I checked a full tune with an XCAL3 was at least $1500. SVI is $3k+. Are you going to be keeping the car long enough to recoup these costs in the long run? As Max said, will the difference in economy after a tune even be noticeable? If the consumption drops from 15 down to 14L a 100km, then that's just saving $5-6 a tank really - wgaf?

You are the king of shit decisions in buying cars, and then even worse decisions in modifying them. The logic you use to justify in mods you end up doing are completely misguided. Then you get it done - and looking back on this historically, you're normally disappointed.
