2001 Ford Falcon Ute

Re: Dan's new ute.

Postby Dansedgli » August 25th, 2009, 11:13 am

The ute of awesomeness is still kicking on. It passed a rwc and is now registered for a further 12 months.

Latest mods include 2 new tie down points, my old head unit so I can plug in my Iphone and a KTM sticker.

I can get the bike in and close the tailgate now. Much more betterer.

It runs well on old 2 stroke mix too. :D

I havent gotten around to making it look pretty yet but Dad has added his own touch by sideswiping our house with it. :S

I have just ordered door hinge repair kits. The passenger side door is hard to close and sometimes wont close at all without pushing the lock down first. Both doors sag so Ill try and fix them this weekend. It wasnt as issue but yesterday I had my dog in the car and as we were driving along the passenger door swung open. The dog was standing on the seat with her head out of the window when it happened. The dog was unimpressed.

After that when I get time next ill try to organise a new bonnet, bumper and thermofan conversion. The clutch fan is fcked I think. Its always on making a racket.

Its hard work not buying turbo stuff. : (

No idea Justin. I read a thread on xfalcon where a guy is restoring his XD and it didnt sound really easy. Some people say that the welds inside the door break making the door sag so the hinge repair kit might not fix the issue. I cant weld for sht but Ill have a crack if that is the issue.

Ill figure it out. If not Ill get a panel beater onto it. I doubt it would be a really expensive fix.

door hinge rebushing is a total pain in the ass to do, its really a 2 man job. the bushes themselves are fiddly but reasonably straightforward, its the re-fitting and re-aligning of the door thats a mission if your doing it by yourself.

re-, my checkerplate tray, il try and get some pics, but the ute is back in nz, and the tray is holding all my car stuff lol, but il see what i can do, it does look good.

Thanks nstg8a. Pics would be good but when its easy for you. Rebushing sounds like it will be fun. :(

lol 3 months for a tune sounds pretty good compared to past experiences.

Dave - I would get it tuned at dynomotive. If im gonna get stuffed around by another workshop I want them to be close to home. :P

I do want to turbo it but instead of spending $10k on a decent turbo and ECU setup then having to rebuild my motor, trans and diff I'd rather buy a BA/BF/LS1 ute and have something nice to drive.

Im still not convinced I dont want another 4wd either. Next car might still be a GU patrol.

Get an RB30 Patrol! Because you know a motor designed for a 1400kg sedan will be awesome in a 2000kg 4WD.

Sif not get XTC to do it. You'd be on a first name basis with them yeah?

Nah the RB30 patrols are only GQ's and I want the newer shape if I get another one.

I nearly bought a turbo RB30 one. It was fast. Faster than that 200rwkw turbo white EB I had.

No wai! I'd only bother with the 2j or a BF motor if I did a motor swap. I could get a 2j half cut for a few K cheaper than a BF turbo motor so I have thought about it.

Its all effort that I dont want to put in though.

On a more serious note, do all XG's have a single thermofan mounted in front of the radiator behind the front bar? I do and it seems to turn on with ignition power. Can I get rid of it?

I thought XGs had a clutchfan as per EB-ED 4.0s.

Single thermo, which works flat out with ign on? Sounds aftermarket. Having it in FRONT of the radiator? Gay.

Get a K4 chip. It's the next on up from J3. It plugs in to the RAD CIG LTR port in your Fusebox, has a "30A" on it and is green. You tune it through your radio. VOL = Timing, TUNE = Fuel, BASS = Spark Cut

It would be fun driving a car that is worth less than its turbo manifold.

I like that idea Sundeep but I recently replaced my headunit with my old CD player and it doesnt have any buttons on the face.

I was on youtube late last night watching old turbo VL and supra movies so I want many fasts again but not being able to work on the car kills those ideas. My house has no concrete so I cant jack the car up safely or pull the motor out.
