Coyote's EL XR6

Postby Coyote mk3 » December 22nd, 2009, 10:45 pm

Hello all, I'm new here and I thought I would post up some pictures of my first car which I have had for just over a year now.
It is a 1997 manual EL xr6 in Heritage green which I bought for $4,000 November last year. (best buy ever :D )

Here are some pics of it and what I have done to it over the last year.

when I first got it home it had the clear peeling on the bonnet, spoiler and top or rear bar
Image

Image

Image

these were the first things fixed up
Image
to
Image

and
Image
to,
Image
I also got some plates for it CYO73 (Coyote) last name Wylie

Image

The next that that had to happen was to change those wheels. I got a set of FTR's for $550 from ebay
Image

L-plater going slideways  always good
Image

Then the next thing that had to be done was the EL xr bodykit
I also got this for around $500 on ebay, and dad and I sanded it back, painted and fitted it in a couple of days

Image

Image

I then got offered a set of headers for $100, well I couldn't knock that back. So they went on
Image

bit of a clean up in the bonnet
from this (when I first got it home
Image
to
Image

And then last week I got a 2.5" exhaust with single muffler put on, which is nice. (I know pic shows bugger all)
Image

small video of exhaust sound (if It works)
Might want to turn up a bit too, only taken with my phone so it is a bit quiet
Also you can only really hear it with decent computer speakers, I tried with some cheap ones and it sounded crap. But sounds good with my good ones.(well to me anyway)
Image

And that's it.
Next on my list is the slightly larger Tickford rear wing that goes with the kit and tinted windows

Thanks, probably just going to do the CAI in the near future.
oh and I may be getting a high flow cat put on soon too, that's about all I can think of.

I was also thinking about lowering it, but I still want it very drivable and it is surprising how low the front splitter bit is now, would be a PITA if it was much lower I think

looks mint man you have done a great job with the paint. did you do the bonnet and rear at home?
you wont regret lowering it will look heaps better and handle nicely too. i'd recommend some h/d swaybars too for good handling

Well, its almost a replica of my old car.

Im sure you and your old man remember how competitve my old car was at the various track days.

Stick a nice mid range cam in and you will give all those B series folk in that qld club a good run for their money. :)

Yes I remember your old beast. Was an awesome car that!

I have never looked into cams, would be good though.
How much would I be looking at for a mid range cam?

Speaking of that club, I took out best E series for this year (only out of about 10-15 cars, but still I was stoked)

I can see why, looks great.

I used all Jim Mock Motorsport stuff which at the time cost a bit but was worth every cent in my opinion.

Lots of options for cams, Id be looking at surecam or wade. should be less than $200.

Surecam seem to be great at custom grinds, so Id give them a buzz and tell them you want the fattest mid range they can offer.

I rarely reved my old set up past 5000 because 2500 -5k was so good!
you can see i had a fair whack of torque from low all the way to 5 grand. Thats why it was so good at club events

Well I ordered a old DEV2 kit and well I think a DEV3HL is what I ended up with. I have to admit that it was set up well with vernier cam gears and what not.

Thanks mate,
No, the only bits on it that have been resprayed are the bonnet, spoiler, top of rearb/ bar, bottom left hand of front b/bar and the bodykit (painted it before we fitted it)
(These bits were done very soon after I got it though - 8th photo down it was all done bar the bodykit)

I wish it looked as good as it does in these pics lol
Not saying its that bad, but I would love to get it a respray when I end up with more money then I know what to do with.

The rest of it was made 10x better with a good cut and polish.

ideally they should be mounted in the center of the vehicle for the best reception.

It really doesn't look that bad in the flesh, it is slightly smaller then the one for the radio on the front guard, which is down in these pics.
I am quite happy with where it is and it serves it's purpose very well.

My old EL had a UHF and a VHF aerial, I used it for communications between VKG NSW Police and our VHF and UHF repeaters. I used to be primary response for rescue. No one ever wanted to race me....

Yeah, that is the same aerial that Dad, Wyn and My brother have. Mine is the same height, if not slightly smaller then them.

Cheers guys,

Yeah I have considered the EF tail lights, not sure yet though. I know am one of the few, but I don't really mind the EL tail lights.
The tint is one of the next things on my list, but I haven't got a great deal of $ at the moment, so it will just have to wait a bit longer.
I don't think I will lower it for year or two though, mostly because there are a few other things I would like to do first and I am looking to get into an apprenticeship after I finish school this year so $ will be a problem for a while.

but anyway, here are some photos I took the other day. Was polished about 3 weeks ago, but was a little dusty when i took these.

Apparently because there after market i had the same ones and them same problem. Used a buffer and all and they stayed the same. Just pull them off and paint them. Easy as to take them off. Lower the car. I'd almost give you a set of supers for free to stick in the ass cause it's to high

The small front one will be going soon.
I am going to get a new bonnet protector sometime soon as a couple of months ago a stone hit it and cracked it. I won't be replacing the sticker.
The crack is not too bad though (can't see it in those last set of photos)

Driving for a wedding in July so it will be off before then.
