Thanks guys,
Yeah a Coyote under the bonnet would be nice lol, I photoshopped one under there one day, looks neat haha.

Yes Rick, there will soon be a regency red EL XR6 frequently parked next to mine. Which is nice.
Great car too, under 200k, interior is immaculate and 100% stock. A few minor issues with the exterior, but oh well.
Only draw back is it is auto - but it drives very nicely. She really wanted a manual but for the price it was hard to say no.

I decided it is also time to fix up the front skirt, being aftermarket fibreglass it chips very easily. So after a few years it was starting to look very similar to a lamington.
I took it off tonight and tomorrow morning it will hopefully be all nice and perty again.

A long way from perfect, but it will get there eventually.

1997 EL XR6 auto in regency red. 189,000kms for 3.5k from a caryard. Interior and engine bay are pretty much immaculate...but no pics atm lol

What wrong with your cluster?

Re: Coyote's EL XR6

PostPosted: July 21st, 2012, 6:30 am
by Coyote mk3
It displays 555,555 kms and 35.9 on the trip meter ever time I turn the car on.
And when driving it counts up as usual from those numbers until I turn it off again.
Last time I was there at nova some guy reckons they could reset it to a reasonable nominated figure. Which I would have at about 280,000 kms.
He said it would cost around $100 but I don't want to spend that kind of coin unless it oa definitely going to work.

The cluster just decided to do this all by itself one day.. I haven't tampered with it or anything.

Hhmmm strange it could be the cluster it self causing the problem but atleast bring it in and give it ago and see if it works.

Cheers mate, yeah she'll be looking after it. I got my own to worry about haha.
Yeah huggie, not too sure about that just yet. But after a bit of paintwork you could be right.....although I love regency red I still prefer Heritage after its just been polished.
The good thing with the red though is it doesn't look dirty 30 seconds after you put the polishing cloth down

cheers mate,

Lately I have been using Bowdens own. Which is great stuff.
But I prefer to use tough seal paint protection.
It's just more expensive and I need to buy another batch.

Well I haven't been on here in a while.
I have done a few little bits and pieces since.
I still need to sort out rego stuff for the number plates. But it will happen eventually.

I managed to get my hands on a couple of bits from a written off EL xr6, which was a couple of seats, and a set of headlights.
My old seat was worn a fair bit in places so rather than try to get it fixed I replaced it with one in better condition

old and new
Image

I also replaced my cracked headlight (learned how to remove the bumper)
new and old
Image

I found a few fairmont bits on Ebay I decided were a must have, so I put in a rear courtesy light and the trip computer into her.
Don't know why I didn't do it earlier

Image

Image

I also got fed up with the crappy headlights so I installed a HID kit to high and low beams. Makes a huge difference. Also got LED parkers so they didn't look stupid being yellow
Image
Image

I also picked up a car bra in basically new condition (I have a feeling he never even put it on his car) for just over $100
I put it on to make the holes and fit it nicely. But it wasn't much use until I got the front bar resprayed
Image

I also got some footwell lights from a ghia and wired them in.
Image

and then replaced all the interior lights with a set of white LED lights I picked up. Which is great because now I can actually see inside at night.
Image

and just this last week I sent some bits away to be resprayed. Being the Front bumper bar, door handles, spoiler and number plate light
before
Image
Image

after
Image

the spoiler had to be smoothed off and sprayed.
Image

and the bumper was covered in stone chips, but all back and looking good now.
Image

Also took a few more pics with the GF's car now she has he P's
Image

Image

and one going through the kink at lakeside. Looking nice and low lol
Image

Hope I didn't bore you too much :)

How quick do your high beams come do they take a while? And be care for with the led parkers because mate from work with el xr got done for them because they said it looks like a cops light.

alot of white LED parker bulbs look blue. you need the SMD style for it to look white. and its true the cops dont like the blue colour

They do take a while to come on. But I have gotten used to it now.
I do need to get some smd parkers as these ones are a little blue. Autobarn didn't have them when I was looking

I improved my time to 15.509 @ 90.1 MPH - Girlfriend got a 16.674 @ 85.39 mph

I also put in a new JVC headunit, and splits for the front, running off a 2ch amp under passengers seat, when i get the money I will get a 4ch and run the rears as well.

I also got myself a genuine EF/EL XR momo steering wheel, which I need to get re trimmed. Trying to sort that out now.
Image

And my girlfriend got me some great mats as a present,
Image
Image

I also got a NOS red rear bumper insert as the one I have is a little bit damaged, hopefully that will be going on this weekend.

Got around to replacing the strip which was a bit more of an effort than i thought. Getting all of the old tape of was a bastard.
The biggest reason I wanted it replaced,
Image
and this could have been sanded and cleaned up if I wanted
Image

taking it off - trying to push it out from the inside corner was a little difficult too.
Image

all off, nice look but the red is what makes it an XR

all done

Looks good, now you've started you will have to do the rest of them, I need to re-do mine or get new ones

Re: Coyote's EL XR6

PostPosted: December 30th, 2012, 10:46 pm
by Coyote mk3
Cheers

The rest of them are pretty good, one of the sides has been painted before and is a little bit orange so I will need to respray that a closer colour at some stage.
The sides unlike the front and back are only painted on the EL's,the EF's were red plastics all round. Which means you cannot attack them with thinners to take away the sun damage. So I just polish them. The pic was taken before I polished it today, may take another pics of the whole side of the car tomorrow to see if there is much difference.

If I get my hands on a brand new set of sides and front I might do them just cos' but it is unlikely that will happen.

such nice work. paint is perfect.
i really need to get my roof and other bits done.
awesome work with the camera. i really need to get a decent camera too. seems to be a few members close enough, in down at caloundra, should do a club willowbank night

Thanks mate, yeah willowbank would be good.
It seems I have done a headgasket yesterday ad I have crap under the oil cap and been loosing coolant a bit. So I might see if I can manage that on the weekend.

Shame but from the service records I think this is the first one and it's done over 300,000 ks

haven't done much since Feb, apart from doing the headgasket.
One little thing I did do was giver her some more airflow
I cut a hole in the bottom of the airbox and ran some piping from the front bar up into the box. Not noticeable, which is what I wanted.
Image

Image

Image

Whether it was that or the head being recondition I'm not sure but my time on the drag strip dropped down to
15.132@ 91.51 MPH, which I am happy with although i would like to get into the 14's.

I have to do the lifters as they can be quite noisy when the car is cold and sort out another issue that I think may be the distributor.

Did setup the timing right when you threw it all back together after you did the headgasket? Could be effecting your time down the quarter..

Re: Coyote's EL XR6

PostPosted: August 5th, 2013, 6:58 pm
by Coyote mk3
I just kept it as TDC cable tied the chain etc. so I don't see how I could have?

I think I need the dizzy replaced, because it hasn't run right ever since I drowned the engine bay while washing it  But that was well after I did the headgasket

It will run rough and have no balls what so ever when i turn it on. But I can turn the car off while driving and rev it as I turn it on, when i do that it runs fine.
I replaced leads, dizzy cap and rotor button, ignition coil and spark plugs look fine. But still does it.
I have also made sure the electrical connections on the injectors are dry and clean.

did the added pipe to the airbox make a difference? does it respond quicker? keen on trying it :)

Thanks mate!
I cannot really say as I did the mod while doing the headgasket. And once it was back on the road it seemed to pick up much better.
But I can't say if it is the head being reconditioned or of it is that added air.

But it certainly can't hurt.
