My AU V8 Fairlane

Postby Eb Barbie » August 18th, 2010, 10:58 am

Have had the lane since December so thought it was time I post a thread on it. It's stock at the moment, has black leather interior, sunroof, v8, came with custom plates etc.
Bought it off an older guy who kept it under a plastic cover inside the lock up garage and never driven in the rain. Was his baby/2nd car. Clean as and well looked after.

Plans are to put exhaust on and lower it. I will post better pics once this is done.

Here's some for now

Oh also a question, I have lowered springs to go in it with pedders gas comfort shocks. Will I need a compressor to fit them?

Nice Beth...!
But I am a little biased.... :drinks2:
You'll need spring compressors to take the old springs out, but the lowered springs will be able to go on without having to be compressed...

Anyone know anyone with compressors we can borrow or who wants to do it for me? Pedders will do it but can't do that when the rears are in the car :S

Yours was an XR yeah...? I'm sure the XR's have "factory" lowered suspension.?
I know when I did my lane, the rears needed to be compressed as well...
They are quite a long spring on the fairlane's?LTD's at the rear, from what I've noticed.
Hence why they sit so high at the back!

Kristo, yes mine is an XR, but it was an early S1, and was really high. I had a similar ride height as Beth's Lane.

Either way you're gonna need spring compressors, at least for the front!!

Might get fronts compressed and just try rears without compressing and see how it goes?

Yeah i've done that before as well, just put a cloth or something in front the nut so it doesn't go flying and it'll be sweet.

Whats the IRS setup look like though? Can the springs be taken out without being compressed?

Fronts are easy done. Just undo the nut slowly and watch which way it goes.

Im sure Kev is pretty good at springs by now. Send it to him?

The whole AU irs setup is easy to take out, from memory the 2 bolts in the trailing arms and there were 2 bolts at the rear that bolt up into the floor pan. lift the car up get a jack under the diff center and undo the shock towers and lower it down. (take car with the brake cable's, ABS sensor wiring if you do it that way)

Undo the 4 upper strut mount bolts + the lower shock mount bolt, the spring/shock just slides out.

It also now has a 2.5" cat back exhaust dumped at diff with twin pipes. Here's a pic, I will post others when photobucket wants to be friendly!
