Hi all ive been on here for ages and thought id show the new girl off, this is the newest edition to the family after my green car died about 4 weeks ago, its a 6cyl NL Fairlane with the crappa leather interior that is growing on me, its just lowered on 20's with a diff dumped exhaust, i have extractors sitting here waiting to go on once my new head and cam gets here then ill be looking at diff gears and a stally and that will be about all to this girl, if it lasts long enough.

whats the big dent from?

Thanks kristo, they need tyres baaaad but that will come, the big dent is from the bloke we first bought the car off from what i can tell he decided to mount a tree stump and stuffed just under the mudflap that sill and door and has damage just before the rear wheel arch aswell, which hopefully will get fixed in the next coming months.

Im thinking about changing the wheels to something different and in 19's, the 20's arent very nice to my plastic splash gurads, im open to people opinions on what should replace the 20's.

Oh and i want to make a trip down to come to one of your cruise for charity that you guys hold some im aiming to do so next year.

Something less gay and 18 inches in diameter would be perfect to replace those awesome 20s.

If you do it right you can squeeze a low 14 out of one of those - my housemate and I did it years back. 3.9s, stallie (unfortunately can't remember rpm) ported head, big cam, pacemakers, 2.5" exhaust, cold air and a chiptorque chip. Still got 11l/100 and murdered 5 litres at roll-ons

Yea thats what i want, the head coming is already ported with clevo valve springs to suit the 977B cam coming with it but im guessing ill need atleast a 2800rpm stally and chip to get the most out of it, and i was thinking around the 3.7 gear ratio as i do alot of highway driving.

Wouldn't mind something with atleast 9 inch's of dish under the back but would like 19's as ive found 18's with dish to look a little small especially on a LWB.

i had 3.9's in my nl 'lane, it was still good with fuel on hwy/long trip's.

Yea i thought about 3.9's for a while but after hearing my mates falcon on the highway with 3.9's i think ill stick to 3.7's for now, im not too worried about fuel its more i dont want it reving its nut off on the hwy.

Just out of curiosity, will my standard auto and stally deal with a 977B cam for a bit or will it hate me?

should be fine.
to get the most out of it i'd go a shift kit, will help the box in the long run too.

Yea shift kit is on the list, just wasn't sure if the stally will deal with the 977b, but hay can only see how we go.

Grouse NL Lane mate, looks really nice on the 20's!! I'm running 3.9s and stage 2 auto with 2,500 stally which together has made such a big difference, although mine is a v8 and at 100km/h i do 2250rpm, i'm sure you will notice a big difference out of the six in power aswell. All depends on how much highway driving you do as to wether its worth going to such a high gear change.

Thanks mate, 20's are off at the moment awaiting funds for new tyres, im and seriously considering 3.9's as they can be had a fair bit easier then 3.7's, and would a 2,800 stally be over kill to run a ported head and the 977b cam im getting or should i look at a 2,500 stally insted?

As for highway driving i do a trip to my mums wich is a 700km round trip around twice a month plus any other time heading to mates places, wreckers etc but they are only short drives its just the one to mums im worried about but might just bite the bullet and go 3.9's and stop worrying lol.

I know all about the funds problem as i'm sure a lot of people do mate. With my setup, i can still get nearly 500kms to a tank, thats with driving to and from work and on the weekends giving it a bit on the highway and don't forget, that's in a 5L!! Depends on how the cam would respond to the stally, could get either one really and have the cam tuned in time with the stally. When i got my 2,500 stally and 3.9's done, clocked up the thousand k's and went up the highway to see what could do, stalled it up, when dumped and took off, i was thrown forwards and half into the next lane haha, so just be wary if use ur weapons.

Yea ill be very carefull until i get used to the new setup, but for now its going to inherit a 3.45 LSD as its only a 3.23 single legger so that will help out alot me thinks, and with my car being stock i am getting some seriously bad fuel economy, like if i get over 400kms to a tank im doing well, yes it needs a service (which im about to head off and do now) and the wheel alignment is out something shocking but with these 2 items fix im hoping it will drop from its 14.3 average, and i am not always giving it a hard time i usualy just baby it as its too slow to go fast, is anyone else getting the same problems just out of curiousity?

nope... ef gli wagon, daily runs around the central coast and runs down to redfern and back = 8.6L p/100km... and thats without economy on with the 3.23 diff, standard exhaust (headers to tailpipe) with it weighing in at 1875kgs

my lanes untuned with a au engine and the economy aint good
but im always batlling traffic trams trains school zones
would take me bout 45min-1hr to work and up to 1hr 20min on the way home approx 50km's round trip
think im bout 17.8l/100k but thats with a 5 speed manual

yea im stuck in a bit of traffic takes me about half hour each way to and from work, but i dont think ive ever seen any as high as that, but as you say it is untuned, maybe thats something i might look into, i have to anyway for the 977b so will see what happens after this service im 1/4 the way trhew so far.

I hate the dizzy in these things, give me coil pack any day lol.

Finally finished the service on the lane, will get mechanic to throw fuel filter in whilst he has it up doing my ball joints.

yeah my consumption could be to with the way i drive also..
i havnt started mods just yet due to epa

Yea i have found the drivers behaviour to change fuel consumption aswell.

On a different note the lane is up for sale for $3500 with wheels if anyone is interested it will also come with 6 months NSW rego.

Had one as my second car when I was younger and on P's as well lol, got a 14.6 out of it before the stally, low 14's were done by the guy after me unsure what the size was.

did a 15.3 with out diff gears, and a 14.6 with them. 3.9's with an LSD in full street trim.

agreed with the ditch the 20's idea... well the dinner plates that are on it anyways, set of Dark agents or ROH medina's in a 19" would look mint but that's IMO

otherwise, great base to start with, they are a great cruiser and one of the nicest shapes of fairlanes bar none.

I remember seeing your lane ages ago and wanted one because of your car, i am tossing up wether to get rid of the 20's or not, i like them at the moment so for now they stay but i have a new set in mind when i can afford to get them.

Thanks mate, ill update whilst im here, 20's are back on and mudflaps are off, will get pic tomorrow if rain holds off, and marty i live in the penrith area, would love to get on a cruise again i have a mate with a EL XR8 that will most probably join also.

I actually like the 20's, not a big fan of the wheels by them selves but the fairlane certainly pulls the look off. I can show you a pic of my brothers Nl with 18'" ROH modena's if you were interested, he has about 4-5inchs dish on the back so they look pretty mad, but they definitly look small from some angles.

Yea i wanted a set of the modena's ages ago but i wouldn't go any smaller than 19's as the lane even makes my 20's look small somethimes.

Bit more of an update, the fairlane will see a body kit in the not too distant future.

Another update, i was greated this morning with a few go fast bits from the loverly courior man, so now i have to get a head gasket, head bolts, get head shaved, exhaust bolts plus new gasket for extractors, get high flow cat done and install all the above, and finally pull the LSD out of the wreck and chuck in the lane along with a shift kit and the J3 chip when it arives.

So more fun and games in the next month or so hopefully.

Sounds like you're having fun Definitly interested in seeing the bodykit, cant actually remember ever seeing a lwb with bodykit.

Nah i have only ever seen one with a kit and it floats around near my work, it was on carsales about 18 months ago, it looks bloody good now, body kit mod will start soonish, i have a few big weekends coming up and this one being my 21st so will start work on all the above once i recover from these next 2 weeks.

I hope you decide to keep the 20's, they look great in the 2nd pic, and with a bodykit, wow imo.
