gday guys, as some of u may know i just bought myself a bf xr8

i picked it up today and i love it!
a quick run down:
2006 bf xr8
6 speed auto
boss 260 (of course)
dejavu in colour
premium sound
dual zone climate control
and the half leather seats. i wouldnt have bought a b series with these options.
only thing is it is missing is a sunroof

feels very quick to me (after stepping out of an nc) and i know its not as quick as a turbo but i am just a v8 fan!
anyway, heres a couple of pics. i will take some good pics tomorro

hope u enjoy!

Great car mate, and don't stress about the sunroof as there are always aftermarket options if you have a spare couple of grand in the future. I came pretty close to getting a Hollandia 900 for the VT.
http://www.webasto.com.au/products-and- ... 900_ps.pdfNo suggestions otherwise really. Pop plates would be a nice aesthetic touch...
Enjoy.

Nice pickup. Defiantly worth shelling out extra for a BF with the 6spd.
Great colour too, something a bit different than all the other Black ones!

Nice car mate! Really like the 50/50 optional trim in the XRs, must go alright with the 6sp too.

cheers guys, 20k does go a fair way. considering a car like this was probably about 56k 4 years back.
it certainly does get moving, gets to 100 before ya know it. havent driven anything with real amounts of power before so its probably nothing on some of the cars on here!
ahh well, plenty of power for me

not too bad on fuel either.

i had much the same reaction with my XR6, i went from a FWD magna auto to my BA
huge difference lol

Looking good man, I like!!
Have you thought about sawpping the rims over. GTP's are now common place on E-series, or in your case N-series. lol. But I think the XR8 would look good with the GTP's and the XR8 rims would be something different on the NC?? Or are the GTP's in pre AU offset?

yeah, i want to swap them but unfortunately they are pre au gt-p's. i reckon the bf xr's would look awesome on the lane and a good change. lol keep it fresh.

nice car. Im with you jazza, prefer a V8 to a turbo 6. Theres just something about them. maybe its the instant low down power you see. Plus the much improved exhaust note.

Hmm the problem is these Boss V8's aint got low down power they like to rev and hard! a turbo 6 would get up and go much quicker.. Ive owned both..

Its not that they rev high its that they start to really pull up top and with a decent air intake really roar. I had my XR8 till i drove a mates F6 and traded it in the next day haha...
Great with the 6 speed nice color combo too... how does that bonnet look from inside the first time you get in it, blew me away.
Oh and you must get a BLUEPOWER AIRBOX they are amazing... they sound sooooo good...gained some very nice power increases and better economy..

yeah, there's not too much power down low but you can really feel the power kick in from about 3500 and up... i love the 6 speed but am already bored of it...
im considering selling the car to my old man who wants it and buying either a manual ba gt-p or manual bf xr6t...
is the red line on the dyno before the airbox and the green one after? if so, that is very impressive... how much are they and where can i get one from?
what other mods can you do to these on the cheapish side to gain power? so far the only thing i have done is a 3 inch exhaust, sounds pretty good too...

Yeah its a before and after comparison of Airbox only... not bad its was a bit of a freak but hey almost 30rwkw is pretty impressive. They are $650 from BLUEPOWER Racing Developments. In campbellfield. Speak to chris or theo.
Other mods -The helix spacer sounds cool.. doesn't give you a massive gain just feels a little better.
-Oil breather's catch can's again from Herrod or BLUEPOWER it stops the oil buildup in the intake manifold and it builds up heaps, again not a massive gain but helps with fuel economy and bit more power.

thanks for that. will definately be looking into the air box... not too sure about the other two, seem a little over my head haha.
on another topic on the 5.4 engines... what are the differences from barra 220 -> boss 260 and then boss 260 -> boss 290? where does the extra 30kw come from in the fpv's? is it just a different tune and they rev a bit harder or is there more to it?
cheers.

barra 220 is a 3V SOHC with VCT, very torquey
Boss 260 is a 4V DOHC, no VCT, prefers revs
Boss 290 has more agressive Cams and higher compression from memory.

ahh ok thanks. i thought the boss was VCT.
i took a ba ghia 5.4 for a drive before getting the xr8 and the xr felt more torquey to me... but that could just be the difference between the 4 speed and 6 speed....

The Helix spacer is the blue thing you can see in my pic connected to my throttle body, and the oil catch can's are very easy to install come with instructions.
But defiantly get an airbox it seem $$ but once you put it on you will be amazed at the sound!

I'll +1 the bluepower airbox, had one on my XR6 sounded good and made a decent difference.

Awesome pickup Jared, very very nice. You'll love that 6 speed auto aswell, fantastic gearbox. After driving a few BA's with the 4 speed then driving BF's with the 6 speed auto you can feel the difference in the acceleration (May vary person to person), it had me pretty surprised. Otherwise it looks like you got a good pick!

So if that was just comparing normal airbox to blue power why was there 40 mins and 12 runs between them? 26 RWKW is huge just for an airbox change, stock must be massively restricting.

lol Cause it doesn't take 2 seconds to change over the airbox and put the new one on. Chris from bluepower was showing me how the ECU learns and gains so much more powerwith more air. Each run it was gaining a little bit more a and little bit more till the power flattened out and stayed the same. So thats why it was 12 runs and 40 minutes. Yeah stock air box is massivly restricting especially on the early BA's.

Worst thing about the boss motors is how good the turbo 6's are.. i bet everyone would love them if the 6T never arrived.
They aren't great down low.. but still have decent power. 290 is definatly the pick of the bunch with higher comp etc. Sucks you have to fork out for an fpv to get one tho.
290's also have different valves/valve train so they can take bigger cams than a 260.

You seem to know a lot about them, how different are the coyote engines? Will we see transplants of the s/c gear into b-series when that start getting written off? Or are they completely different set-ups?

They are a fair bit different, but Im sure there will be conversions no doubt, it will be the whole motor not just the intake Im lead to believe they are different. but im sure like with most things it will be able to be done in time
